Report: Two-Hour Grey's Anatomy Event to Begin Planned Kate Walsh Spinoff

by at . Comments

Although the plot is still shrouded in Shonda Rhimes-style secrecy, both TV Guide and Variety magazine have discovered some new dirt on the planned Grey's Anatomy spin-off, and how it may begin.

Report: Two-Hour Grey's Anatomy Event to Begin Planned Kate Walsh SpinoffVariety says that "My Favorite Mistake," a two-hour Grey's Anatomy episode setting up an Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh) spin-off, is scheduled to air this spring.

In addition to opening the door for Addison to possibly leave the halls of Seattle Grace, "My Favorite Mistake" will also introduce guest star Taye Diggs - as well as Hector Elizondo (Chicago Hope) as Callie's father.

The episode will be directed by Michael Grossman, who was last behind the camera for "Great Expectations" - the terrific episode in which both Burke and George popped the question to their respective ladies.

An exact air date for "My Favorite Mistake" has not been announced by ABC, but the episode will serve as the 22nd and 23rd Grey's Anatomy episodes (out of 24) in the current Season 3.

This is all very interesting news. Is the door also open for Addison to remain at Seattle Grace if viewer response to the episode is negative? Or is it a done deal that she's gone? Previous reports suggest the latter, but this makes it sound slightly less certain.

In any event, Grey's Anatomy returns with new episodes in two weeks, Thursday, March 15. That episode will be titled "Scars and Souvenirs."

As I understand it, the two hour season finale will be a normal GA finale, but it will open up a door for Addison to leave if it looks like the viewers approve of said opened door. The writer is a genius, look how ravenously we all hang on for each new episode, if addison leaves I'm sure it will be artfully done, not out of nowhere and dissapointing. As far as the old lover showing up and screwing up life for Mer/Der, I think he's used to and accepts the fact that she has had many many partners in her past, and an old lover showing up and announcing himself won't really faze him.

well, personally, i'd rather addison leave than say, callie or dr. webber, but seriously, a spinoff? please. i was honestly horrified when i heard about this.

DON'T TAKE ADDISON!!! yes she's not a big character like derrek or meredith but she's addison. she' sarcastic and smart and i want to see some romance between her and alex. this is not the time to take her away. not yet she's not done on grey's. i noe it. it will mess up the show. DON'T DO IT!

I definatly agree... i think they are doing a spin off way too soon. It could ruin grey's anatomy. what would the show be like with out addison. and i think something bad is going to happen to MerDer. but dont listen to me =D

I hope you are right about the ex boyfriend being Callies and not Merediths. Surely after all Mer/Der have been through they will remain together!
I just found this comment on spoiler fix and this makes me feel better about Mer/Der! YEAH! GREY'S ANATOMY spin off poll: Most people say it's a bad idea. I don't know where I stand. I want Addison to stay at Seattle Grace but if the spin off is half as good as the real thing, wouldn't it be great to have ABC turn Thursday night the GA night?
SAMIRA26 said: First of all, thanks so much Isabelle for your info. I love SpoilerFix! Anyways, GREY'S ANATOMY...will Derek and Meredith be together at the end of the season?
GREY'S ANATOMY: Looks likely.

anyone know what the show will be called? i think that they are doing a spinoff WAY to soon. They should wait afew more seasons because if the spinoff isn't good then that might be bad for GA too.

Spin off shows like never ever work i mean the joey spin off from friends was hugely publisised and awaited but it still flopped, although granted some have worked its very hit and hope. Maybe concentrating on the main show for a couple more seasons would have been better but im not a producer so i wish them luck.
Also the returning ex im pretty sure is callies because in an earlier episode meredith admitted to derek she had never done this before so it cant be her. and i read somewhere callie has a secret to admit to so maybe its the ex?

spin-offs generally do not do well. i really hope they abandon this plan and keep kate walsh in the show. splitting the cast might just make one of the shows suffer. they should just focus on writing great scripts and keeping grey's anatomy the best show on tv. grey's anatomy is an ensemble show. they may focus a little bit more on the mer-der dynamic but all the characters contribute to it's success. otherwise, they would have done a show about only derek and meredith. it will definitely be a big loss if addison or any of the interns and doctors leave.

I think the writer should concentrate on a full season of shows and keep the reruns for summer. If she can't deal a full deck on one show what will she do with two?
If any other network comes up with anything even remotely interesting, I'll switch over. It was a great show but it's on the downhill slide with it's lousy story lines and cast quarrels and problems and constant reruns. Phooey!

For those who are misunderstanding, the 2 hour episode will be just another Grey's Anatomy episode except it may be a bit more focused on Addison. I heard from a couple other sites that by the end, basically, addison will be offered another job somewhere, and left as a season cliffhanger. If the background people ABC, w/e, decide to go forward with the spinoff, then Addison will take the offer. If they don't, they Addison will decline, and peace will return to Seattle Grace. The good news (for KW, for me, for lots of ppl), is that in the event that the spin-off fails, Kate Walsh's contract allows her to return to Grey's. Whew!

Grey's Anatomy Quotes

Sometimes we have to get lost. To find each other.

Meredith

Did you say it? 'I love you. I don't ever want to live without you. You changed my life.' Did you say it? Make a plan. Set a goal. Work toward it, but every now and then, look around; Drink it in 'cause this is it. It might all be gone tomorrow."
