Grey's Anatomy star Katherine Heigl has been tapped to play the lead role in 27 Dresses, a romantic comedy directed by Anne Fletcher (Step Up), Entertainment Weekly reports this morning.

Katherine Heigl to Play Lead Role in New Romantic Comedy, "27 Dresses"Scripted by Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada), the story is about a single woman (Katherine Heigl) who has been a bridesmaid 27 times.

She is enlisted as bridesmaid again for her sister, who is is marrying the man she is madly in love with. Production is slated for May, after the actress finishes shooting Season 3 of Grey's Anatomy.

Heigl chose the project after being courted for several films following the positive buzz on her upcoming movie, Knocked Up, which is directed by Judd Apatow (The 40-Year-Old Virgin).
