Academically, Derrick is now officially a manipulative bitch. After all, turnabout is fair play. The writers have recreated the Hathaway-Ross relationship from ER, only switched the genders. Instead of a woman in love chasing after a man in love, but who won't commit, they have made Derrick as the sensitive one and Merideth as the cold one. If Hathaway had pulled out house plans to create a negative reaction from Ross, then used that reaction to prove he wouldn't commit, she would have been (rightly) called a manipulative bitch and been portrayed as scheming. There would be backlash against her character for tricking Ross into initiating a breakup so she could date someone else with a clear conscience. What Rimes and the other writers have forgotten is that turnabout really is fair play and that their audience will feel that way about ANY character that acts in such a way, no matter the gender. Officially, Derrick has become a manipulative bitch and the backlash should have bee

Shonda et al. are masters at planting seeds for a couple of unspectacular episodes and then flinging open the greenhouse doors to reveal exploding bloom after bloom in one brilliant moment.
It's coming. Trust that it is.
And if you think you can do better, create your own damn show.

Is Grey's my favorite show? You bet! Have I been dissapointed? You bet! However, that is life. Life has dissapointments. Life has bad timing. Everything is not perfect. I agree that it has been hard to watch our beloved Mcdreamy move on. Again that happens sometimes in our lives. Sometimes the truth hurts. The storylines have been a little hard to follow in season 4, but Shonda has to build back what was torn down in season 3. I feel that we as fans are upset that 1/10/08 episode was dissapointing because we don't know when we will see our beloved characters again. We are being ripped off because we have only half of the season completed. All of us would much rather watch Grey's than a bunch of lame reality tv. We can only hope that there is an end in sight for the writers strike. I guess we have to remember that we didn't see a season finale. We have a lot to look forward to in the future. Lets try to remain optimistic. I am going to keep on watching my favorite show.

I agree with confused, we can have both but with Shonda, we get constant despair. The beautiful love story with George and Izzie was the one thing keeping me tuned in, now that she has dropped them and is going back it seems to the pukefest that is Lexzie, I can finally cut the cord and never watch again.

here is my thought - Unfortunately there are many relationships that do go through crap just like Meredith and Derricks relationship - not so much the crazy situations - but the emotional side of things - and as stupid as it may seem - there are people out there who watch the show and want beyond all hope for Meredith and Derrick to get together and make their relationship work - because it gives them hope that things can work out in their own life - I am not saying it is rational or even understandable - but you do have to acknowledge the fact that this show hits home with a lot of people and they can relate - that's one of the reasons this show has been such a huge success - anyway, thats just my opinion - I am sure someone has a wonderfully smart a** comment to leave about my post - go ahead - its an opinion - you don't agree:)

Why can't we have both?
Drama and the fairy tale?
Most of us have the drama in our lives already?
It is nice to know that someone experiences more drama than my life.
BUT a little fantasy world is a nice escape from the everyday!
Isn't that why we watch! Escape and entertainment!

It's lame. These people want the show to be a fairy tale. It's a drama, not a romantic comedy. If you want McDreamy to be McHappilyEverAfter, then go watched Enchanted.
Additionally, part of the fun of the show is that someone else is writing, creating and thinking the ideas up. If Shonda listened to everything her fans suggested not only would the show be a mess, but it would be totally predictable.
I'm not saying I'm in love with the show anymore, it really went downhill in Season 3, but Season 4 is better so far and probably will continue to get better if the writer's strike ever ends...

Why does everyone think that the show will not work any more if MER and DER get together. They will still have PROBLEMS, Fights & lots of drama, but what would be nice to see is that their characters would grow and actually figure out how to weather the storms together. They need to make a rule- (from I think season 1) No matter what our problem we don't say I'm done....it's so over! Shondra hinted that there is a storm brewing for MERDER and that there will be a BIG FIGHT to resolve some of the issues.
Why can't Der build his dream house?
Why can't they really live together like Christina and Burke? Even when those 2 were not even speaking to each other they always went home. Really that dysfunctional relationship would have even worked because even though it took a while- one of them would give in and make it work eventually. (and it was usually Christina) If Burke's actor hadn't gotten canned those 2 might have made it to the alter. Christina was willing to marry Burke BU

you all need to get a life...it's a T.V. show...its NOT the real world..the writers can do whatever they want..the show was great and now it sucks..move on with your lives and stop living in a dream world...there is no such thing as a McDreamy..woman live in a fantasy world where they wish for a prince charming...get out in the real word and find someone that fits with you and treats you right...stop living through made up relationships on T.V....it really is just sad..and so is this petition..I can't believe I just spent 2 minutes of my life writing this but it just needs to be said..you all need to get a life

i feel like this whole thing about petitions and blah blah blah is a mess. doesn't anyone see the irony in writing a petition to STRIKING writers about meredith being whiny? you're whining! all these posts after posts about derek becoming boring and all that crap is whining!
look, no one is forcing any of you to watch this show. if it's not entertaining to you anymore, then stop watching. you're all missing the point of these characters. it's called evolution. these characters have evolved and you don't like that. that's fine. you don't have to like it. but if you're THAT "in love" with the show, then accept that these characters are different. people become different. they grow and change as life happens to them.
everyone is complaining about meredith being self-involved and whiney. does anyone remember how in season two she watched a man blow up?? i don't know about any of you, but i sure know that would affect me. i'd say that'd be life-changing. or i'd at leas

I agree with the Derek part of the petition but not the george and Izzie one, they are the reason why I watched the show last season and this one. Do I like how they got together? no, most Gizzie fans don't but at the same time they are flawed human beings and people make mistakes when they are crazy in love. All the characters made mistakes and I am glad George and Izzie are not perfect people, how boring would that be? I am much more upset about them breaking up because Shonda got afraid of the backlash and did not realize how many people loved those two together, that upsets me because after seeing how in love they were, their breakup felt like it was: a cowering out and a compromising of any writing intergity.

i agree mckenzie and rosehater. he knows that she didnt want all this and then he decides to build them a house the second they get back together. i think he knew she would react this way, so he took advantage of that so that hee would have reason to break up with her. plus meredith just needs to flat out grow up. they both seem like they dont love each other anymore. especially derek. he used to look at her so lovingly, but now hes just looking at her like he used to look at addisno when he was really ion love with meredith. i agree with what both of them said: derek "you cant trust anybody" and mer: "you dont want me. you want someone, you want someone who wants the same things you want." sorry for my rambling.

I would just like to say I read the whole petition, (which sounds a lot better then the excerpts above), and I totally agree with it. I love seasons 1 & 2, especially 1, and this last 'I can't do this anymore' deal with merder from the last episode is just annoying. I would hate to see them break up forever, but make up your minds! It is completely ridiculous now (and don't get me started on George and Izzie).

January 17th, 2008 4:28 PM
I read the whole petition and I agree with most of things involving the show itself. But I don't agree with them questioning Derek. They said that in a point of view, we want the McDreamy. True. But lets step outside the fact that it's a guy. How many of us, women have been in the Dreamy situation? Giving the best of ourselves to a man, and he just doesnt give it back?
We saw this man loving Meredith for 3 seasons and she always turns her back on him.
I love Derek and I saw myself in Derek's situation many, many of times. I honestly am really tired of Meredith. I know her life is complicated, I know that she's scared, and all that, but c'mon, it's been 3 seasons of her running away from everybody (except Christina).
Would you stay waiting for her? Let's be honest. It's hard. Here is this man, wanting to build a life with this woman. And he is dreamy enough to say it, to admit it and what does she do? Nothing. The only time that she wants to open to him is when he wonders about someo

I signed the petition. I don't think it is about asking the writers to just blindly do what the fans want, but instead, to return the show to its roots. When written well, Grey's can be a wonderful, fun, enjoyable show to watch, but it hasn't been that for quite some time. There are some great moments, but they are too few and far between. Mer/Der is a mess and it needs to be fixed fast. I know so many people who are saying they are done with Greys. It doesn't have to be this way and I think that is all the petition is saying. So, I say yea, let's keep it up and get more signatures.

I do agree with what most people are saying that the show isn't on par with where it was but I think it's still great. I have to say I'm surprised that people are only talking about Meredith and Derrek when one of the biggest character changes on the show has been Izzy. She went from being this sweet girl who was engaged to Denny and gave Alex a chance to this woman who will sleep with a married man and then three episodes later they aren't even together anymore? I just don't get it.

I love that the show is dark again, its how it started. Think of the 2nd season with Denny and the bomb episode. Dark, I hated when they started to make it silly and funny, that is not what the show is about. When dramas start becoming about humor and comedy is when they lose the audience they originally captured. Look at the O.C. it became corny and silly and lost the "dark".

Totally out of context...but get rid of that loud mouth Dizzie character and maybe the show might just move along...the problem with Shonda's writing...although I have been a fan of some of her stuff is that it is fluff...and not totally realistic...she comes from a different place than most of us - she is a single adoptive mom - that is not a bad thing - there isn't enough room here to totally expand - I like Shonda just not all her stuff. As for the writing ...it comes from the perspective of different writers so there isn't always a full connect of all that is the character, i.e. Meredith or McDreamy. It is different perspective of how people reacted in various instances or life events of the different writers making it happen on television. The production staff has to attempt some sort of consistency that is for sure. I watch very rarely now. I've actually taken up a class to avoid watching the show on Thursdays...sometimes I don't tune in anymore.

We need to believe in true love!!Since the beginning we believe that everything gone be ok with Mer and Derek, that love can't just die!!! It just not right, after the thing that happened with, they deserve to be happy!!
At real live this just not happen...it´s true! But we need to dream right? we need to believe something! Let them be happy! Mer knows that loves Derek, and the same happens with them! He said the she's the love of his live, that feeling can't just end like that!

I'm a fan of both but I'M TIRED to read that it's always Meredith's fault. Derek is a needy too and more than Meredith. Fans should realize it.

So, here's the thing...I understand all of your pains and I know that I totally love MerDer together and happy and etc...however, as in real life, people cannot always wait forever for someone to change and be ready for that person to be with them. This is obviously the case between Derek and Mer. I hate the idea of Derek being with anyone else, because it just seems so obvious that they are meant for each other. However, since she isn't ready for all the committment and stuff, he has the right to look around. Who says he will stop loving her? You can love two people at the same time, even if it doesn't seem so. I am annoyed with Rose, but if it makes the plot continue on, then good for it. It would not be as interesting if Derek and Meredith were happy and together all the time. There has to be a degree of conflict between them until it is decided that they will stay together in the end...which I am hoping is what will happen. I'm pretty sure that the producers, writers (even

Academically, Derrick is now officially a manipulative bitch. After all, turnabout is fair play. The writers have recreated the Hathaway-Ross relationship from ER, only switched the genders. At real live this just not happen...it´s true! But we need to dream right? we need to believe something! Let them be happy! Mer knows that loves Derek, and the same happens with them! He said the she's the love of his live, that feeling can't just end like that!
