Ruby Gettinger: A 500-Pound Reality Star

by at . Comments

A 500-pound woman will be the focus of a new Style Network reality show premiering this fall.

Ruby will follow Savannah, Georgia resident Ruby Gettinger over nine episodes, as she struggles to navigate through life and to lose weight.

Gettinger is a close friend of consulting executive producer Brittany Daniel, who said about her pal:

"Ruby really wants to inspire people. She's so entertaining and hysterical, so it's going to be an inspirational but also a really fun show."

Hi Ruby-
I just wanted to leave a message and tell you I faithfully have been watching your progress and you are inspirational. Positive attitude is the key as well as having a great support system. I know because I'm going through a journey with cancer. I was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer in February 07. I was given a few weeks to live. After lots of chemo and 2 major surgeries, I'm still here. I had to go back on chemo this past December, 2009, but that's okay because we attacked it aggressively this time around so we could stay on top of it. I've lost my hair twice during all this ordeal, but hey I got to shop for a great wig! During my journey, I have stayed positive. I finished getting my Bachelor's degree while I was on chemo as well as obtaining my Real Estate license. We have to continue living our life no matter what our struggle is in life! We can't give up, life is too precious. Don't compromise your values and stay on track. God is watching and know that he is proud of all you have accomplished and the inspiration you are giving to millions of people with whatever journey they are on.

This is the first time I've seen you because i live in France I think your are beautiful inside and out. You can come to visit with me and my husband. Do you have an address where I can write to you? When people are jealous and they CLAIM TO BE YOUR FRIEND.... Their NOT your friends, when send you candy and tell you "you've lost enough weight it's time for you to stop".... Get rid of them. Misery loves company. God Bless you you are in my Prayers. Keep up the good work you look great I hope you will write

My Dearest Ruby, You have come a long way and I am sure you have further you want to go. I understand how hurt you are about your father's passing and my heart goes out to you. I lost my mom on March 25, 2008. I did not think I was going to be able to go on. My grandma had passed in 2006 and my step-dad who raised me in 2005. What you must do is..take one second at a time and that is it! Once you can make it one second, then you take one minute, then on and on. Trust me, things do get better. I did not think so but today I am very very very happy. Take your time and if by chance you gain weight during this time, don't worry. Once you get back on your feet, you will loose that weight and more. I love you and wish you the very best. I just wanted to let you know...THINGS DO GET BETTER !!!!! LOVE, SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN THERE PS Watch that old boyfriend..if he truly loved you, he would have stayed with you weight or no weight.
