Shonda Rhimes Downplays Katherine Heigl Comments
When Grey's Anatomy star Katherine Heigl withdrew her own name from Emmy contention, rumors of her departure from the show grew rapidly.
But creator Shonda Rhimes says there are no hard feelings.
"I didn't feel insulted," Rhimes said late last week in Los Angeles. "I have a wonderful working relationship with Katherine Heigl, and Izzie is one of my favorite characters. So when I heard her comment, it was a bit surprising."
Rhimes, who also serves as executive producer or Grey's Anatomy, added, "But Katie is an outspoken person, and I think we all knew that already."
But according to a source, in response to Heigl's griping, the writers are considering giving her character, Dr. Izzie Stevens, a fatal brain tumor.
ABC Entertainment President Steve McPherson sort of denied that last week, though his vague comments certainly did not quell the speculation.

Do you think Shonda Rhimes is really planning Izzie's demise?

I do believe that there is some truth to Katherine/Shonda feud. Shonda runs a very tight ship over there. She works very hard on this show. She puts all her effort into making GA a top show. She doesn't like or want negitive press. By Katherine expressing her feelings in a very blunt way, it left the media wide open for a story. Katherine is letting fame & fortune get to her to quickly. She needs to be careful, because it will effect her, if it already hasn't started to. She must remember that GA gave her the roots to grow as an actress, and she should be forever grateful to that.

I dont think Katherine intended on hurting or offending anyone. I think she really believed that it wouldnt be fair to accept the nod due to her lack of material worked and lack of commitment to the show from doing her movie. I find it admirable that she would decline the nomination to give the chance someone else who worked harder, I dont think it was meant to offend anyone. I believe she is honest.
i totally agree with anbie

I agree with JEG, it's not an insult, just an honest speaking. I think Izzie won't be killed off, and I think in season 5, Izzie's role will be crucial, seeing how Denny shall be back and all. I just hope there is no one on the current cast gets killed off. The cast is perfect the way it is now, though Addison's return won't hurt :D

i agree with anbie and JEG, i think she had good material jut not good material enough to deserve an emmy and i think that was her point and as much as i love GA i have to agree with her. i do´'t think she meant to offend anyone or said she hadn't been given a good writing she had just not an emmy worthy that's all.
i really hope rumors are false and she doesn't get killed off GA.

On yahoo the article said that Katherine Heigl asked to take time off for a movie. I just think she was trying to be fair by saying that she hadn't worked hard enough, so she didn't deserve an emmy. That is what I think.
