This part is supposed to be a dream. However, Derek is supposed to have a heart attack (and supposed to see Denny, since he's supposed to NEARLY die). That was really hard to watch, though, regardless. (Info from Ausiello)

It's called "Dream a little dream of me" for a reason....Plus, there were all those other scenes where Derek is talking about marriage and moving in together - that MUST happen after the candle incident, and Meredith is still in the same clothes so he cannot die.

True.....that is Shonda's mo. I just don't think it is her style to use similar story lines twice. And Baily calls TOD.

See you're all saying it's a dream, it's a dream but what if it isn't a dream?
What if this is some sort of double bluff and that he really does die but then a miracle happens like when Meredith drowned and nearly died. It'd coincide with a Denny return AND Shonda is a fan of symmetry.
Just my thoughts.

OK so Ellen IS TALENTED enough to completely break a persons heart. I was totally sucked in....and yes we all know this is a dream and he doesn't really die duh. Shonda and her people are the best secret keepers in Hollywood! They are pulling everyone in and I have a feeling ratings will be way up for this season premiere. I know I will be Glued to the TV!
Ellen deserves an Emmy for her 1 minute of complete heartbreak.....and Shonda deserves an Emmy for writing and unequaled use of misdirection!!!!

Of course there always has to be drama on this show- it can not all be happy times! anyway, it made me think because Meredith drown in season 3 and came back to life, and it tore Derek into pieces thinking that something was going to go wrong after he pulled her out of the water. Think for a minute! Meredith had a moment in season 3, now it happens to Derek. I guess with this show it goes back ways. But, everyone knows that he does not die, so don't panic. Meredith is still scared and has some demons to work out- and if a bad dream has to happen for he, then a bad dream has to occur!

I hope this accident thing is real. The dearest Derek turned to be a poisonous well for Meredith:the wife,the postponed divorce,the breakups, the datings,the Rose. And now this Accident. Meredith deserves a better guy and I hope she 'll meet somebody in Season 5.

Jesus Christ! I started crying!! I KNOW it is a nightmare/dream and SR is playing with our heads but it felt sooooo real! We've already seen her and Derek talk about moving in together and Derek gets all cranky with the new doctor in town. And NO WAY are they going to kill off Derek....Wait why am I still convincing myself this isn't real? Wow, that was an intense sneak peak!

It's a dream.....they wouldn't release a preview of that if it really happened. When they release sneak peaks it's never of the main drama of the episode.

A very intense, heartbreaking dream, actully more like a nightmare, but it is Shonda making light I think of all the theories that were out there after the finale!

and then he wakes up in a lonely room with OH YEAH Denny of course and all the tumor patients he and meredith killed in the last shows. deja vu..
who are they kidding... "dream" is even in the episode's title.. i just dont understand whats so funny about this thing, letting rose tell she was pregnant in the previous trailer was enough of "juuuust joking". I mean this is equal to putting a plastic spider in front of someone who is afraid of spiders again and again..

GIVE ELLEN AN EMMY ALREADY! Look at the perfection of this performance in the small sneek peak we saw. DAMN YOU EMMY PEOPLE... nominate her and choose her to win! She is so talented and fantastic i don't get how they can snub her each year? It's just insane! ARGH. My heart was pounding so fast, and tears an AWH. I just watched it again. Note to self: do not watch sneek peak again... may become crazy and eventually believe it.

HAHA. Yeah could you imagine if they made it really happen. Everyone would like, boycott Grey's Anatomy i rekon. He is one of the main characters. Meredith would break completely if he really died. I could only imagine that disastrous scenario. Thank gawd we all know it has to be a dream. Because... we see Bailey saying time of death. We know Derek doesn't die. We know that Derek isn't in an accident. Also, after Shonda Rhimes said no Derek doesn't get hit by a bus or anything. Isn't it funi how they put int he dialogue "a bus swerved and he tried to miss it but..." or something to that effect. I find it quite comical that they would put the 'BUS' thing in there.
ITS A DREAM...ITS A DREAM...ITS A DREAM... No other reasoning for it.
