Brooke Smith Takes Firing in Stride
Brooke Smith says she isn't holding a grudge after abruptly and controversially getting fired from the cast of ABC's Grey's Anatomy last month.
"It's an end of a chapter," the actress, 41, said over the weekend at the Trevor Project's 11th Annual Cracked Christmas event in Los Angeles.
"Grey's Anatomy was good experience," she added. "I'd played gay characters before, and I don't think that's going to end. There's no hard feelings. I have other projects now, so it is what it is."
Smith is now writing a new show with NYPD Blue producer David Milch.
Rumors swirled that Brooke Smith got the ax because her character was gay, but show creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes denied that in a statement, saying:
"Brooke Smith was obviously not fired for playing a lesbian. Clearly it's not an issue as we have a lesbian character - Dr. Calliope Torres (Sara Ramirez)... we did not find that the magic and chemistry with Brooke's character would sustain in the long run."
Backing up Rhimes' remarks is the fact that intern Sadie (Melissa George) was flirting with Callie in the most recent episode, "All By Myself," while a new love interest, Dr. Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw) is rumored to be joining the cast come Spring.

How could you not love this woman? She has such a sweet loving smile. Watch her on you tube, she is just a sweetie. I mean watch her interviews. She isn't a hard ass, but she sure can play one. That is the part that these people hire her to play. And she nails that part to the floor. She is no nonsence and hardcore. But then go back and watch her with Callie and you see awhole other side of her. Loving kind and gentle. I miss you Dr Hahn/Dr Switzer/Brooke Smith

Awww love it that Brooke has another job at NBC. She is such a talent. I'm sure she will write a damn good show. Let us hope that she brings her friends from ABC to help her. (Sara and TR) Since they are leaving the show too. It is so sad to see them leaving a show that I learned to love. But things change and sometimes people have to move on. As for Grey's if they keep up with the way things are going. The show is going to go right down the drain. I can see it circling it right now. That is sad cause Grey's hasn't been on air that long. Well good luck to Brooke,TR,Sada and Maybe PD. Good things in the future.

Yeah i was pissed off about Brooke Smith being fired. I could really relate to her characer, she had the best role on that show and they fired her.
Oh well, does anybody else notice that the show was getting good, but once they fired Hahn, every episode seems to suck more and more each week? Like Seriously!
Oh well she probably wont go back, that was ABC's decision, let them deal with fixing Grey's now, but i dont think they're doing any good with the way things have been going.
Good luck to Brooke, really awesome that she's moving forward without a grudge.

Brooke is a class act! JJ, I totally agree with you...Brooke is so much better off of that joke of a show. I mean really...dead guy sex? And Shonda says thats the most interesting storyline? Maybe ickyest storyline...it has become a total soap opera!

I would be screaming "Bring back Hahn!!!" But Brooke is better off without them. It seems they have been making bad decision after bad decision lately. To name a few... Losing TR, Sadie being there at all... Izzie having aneurism sex with a dead guy, Sadie...

I thought Hahn's character was awesome gay or not she was a tough doc not all wishy washy, I'm boycotting the show!!!!

Wow, what a lady! I don't understand how GA could not write for her character, but can write for that twit Sadie, and dead guy sex.
I'm glad that Brooke has moved on, and wish her the best. Looking forward to seeing the new show she is writing.
