The undisputed leading man of Grey's Anatomy, Patrick Dempsey, turns 43 today. Happy birthday, Patrick! The Maine native first rose to fame so long ago, many Grey's Anatomy fans probably aren't even familiar with what the star used to look like:

Hey, it was the late 1980s. We forgive McDreamy for the hair. While he was always a successful working actor, his second turn at stardom came early in 2005 when Derek Shepherd woke up in Meredith Grey's bed in the Grey's Anatomy pilot.

What a great ride it's been since.
