I think most of you missed the true ethical dilemma here and the show if definitely getting it wrong. The patient stated clearly he refused the surgery and Derek got Yang to sign an override. The “Do No Harm” clause of the Hippocratic oath is being abused by Derek. A patient has the right to choose what is done to them. Derek is taking away this patient’s rights and would be disbarred. Miranda should be attacking on the legal issue and reminding him of his oath. But again this season, the writers have lost sight of how smart and strong Mirada is and made her a crying wimp.

    1) Lethal injection often hurts a great deal (it's one of the reasons the death penalty gets revoked for months at a time - They haven't figured out how to make it humane and quick.)

    2) I do think someone has the right to kill himself or to allow himself to die (what are DNR orders for anyway?) But maybe Mer should've gotten him to sign a DNR before giving him the info to kill himself.

I'm on Bailey and Miranda's side.

Has Grey's Anatomy officially jumped the shark? Numbers within the TVLoop community suggest that as they're down sharply across the board. My guess is that recent plotlines like the whole Denny/Izzy affair are starting to take their toll. Thoughts?

Derek should save him and let him live...but then they should harvest his liver and what have you and keep him alive somehow until its time for his death penalty..then its a win win situation. (Can they keep him alive without his liver for a week?? Isn't his execution in a week?)

i agree, fanoftheshow never makes any sense???

that said, it took them a while but finally they have this season where it should'v been when it started. the drama, the tension, the romance! i hope it ends up being worth the wait and that they don't let the good writing petre out to an anti-climax.

YAY!! I think this weeks episode is going to be great. It'll be interesting to see what the outcome of Derek and Bailey's conversation is going to be...

Slightly off this weeks ep (sort of), I think it'll be interesting to see Callie and Arizona and what happens with their relationship and how it all comes about. I know everyone LOVES Callie and Mark but I think they've gone beyond being anything but best friends. I want to see Callie happy again - to me it seems as though she still isn't coping without Erica.

Anyway, can't wait for Friday (have to download it)
    xx

    What the...?!

All right I think that bisexual all doc's ruller Richard would star in that scene instead of Miranda.
But it does not matter yet, it is awesome scene.

    fanoftheshow is SO annoying.

Doubtlessly the scene will be highly estimated by arabians in the jury as well.
Al Jazzira could make questionary again. We can spam the voting and we can blow their server if they do not agree with our opinion.

Oopps. All pairs of eyes are well seen. And in general opinion the
    scene is well done.Congratulations.

The great writting and acting will be better evaluated by us if we get as many as possible quotes and stils of that scene.Thanks.

If noone can see a inch of Dempsey's face or body how could the actor be nominated for Emmy? That's bizzare.

The writers are back on track...This is so intense. the moral issues that this request as brought up are tough. True drs took an oath. But i was married to an intensive care nurse for 22 years and she told me numourous times of how drs had worked around the "oath"... happens every day....but i guess we will have to se how this one shakes out... my wife and i are glued to the set.... and i agree with all that said that this is an emmy nomination for this scene.....great job Shonda and all of your staff...I'll definatly buy this season on dvd as i have all the others.......

Te kid dies, i read in a spoiler site a while ago that Miranda is involved in a case with a little boy over three episodes and the boy dies and it's very sad.
As for the organ donation, I would not want organs from a serial killer. I know it would mean I could live, but still, keeping a serial killer alive in my body, I just couldn't do it, I would rather go back on the waiting list.
I think Derek should keep the man alive for as long as possible, but I also see it as a waste of resources, surgeries cost hospitals a lot of money, and for what, a man who killed women.
If I was a doctor, and I wouldn't get in trouble, I would fix him just enough so that he would live till his execution date, then have to be killed anyway, so he gets the pain of the surgery, as well as the pain of the execution.
But anyway, I am not a doctor and the writers have already decided what is going to happen, we just have to wait a week and find out.
    :-)
    RIP Jackson

She's clearly not thinking and behaving as a doctor, she's emotionally attached to this boy. This is not typical Miranda. Derek would never cave; he's not emotionally attached. And he's right not to. There is a room full of nurses/witnesses of this conversation. His career would be over. I think he will probably save the serial killer, the boy will die, and we will all witness the way it would likely take place in real life, only with a very emotionally-driven song in the background. It's the classic "right to live - who decides" story. I think it's quite interesting and the acting in this scene is very good.

    One word: WHOA.

This is such a bioethical dilemma. I want to sit on the fence, but I can't!

  21. Grey's lover all the way

This is hard. They should, as doctors, do anything they can to save him, cause they don't have the right to kill him. He is a patient as everybody else and killing him is the executioner's job.
But on the other hand he's gonna die in five days anyway. He can actually save someone's life before he dies, and it's a waste of fully functional organs.
(Maybe he's just trying to get rid of the the execution. But that doesn't matter, it's his own choice to try to kill himself, and he dies no matter what)
He did try to kill his own brain, so if he managed to do it, they can give his liver to the boy. But they shouldn't as doctors stop trying to save him, only if it's not possible anymore. So if he gets braindead by his own actions, as an attempt of suicide, they can give the liver to the boy. Otherwise, as much as the boy does deserve a new liver, they should wait until they find him another one.
They shouldn't as doctors treat the killer differently and kill him themselves, no matter w

i got chills. wow intense. bailey deserves an award for this scene. ahhh i cant wait

  23. !greys

this is wrong. he has every right to live and have a second chance just like everyone else in the OR would. Bailey is breaking the rules, and almost looks the same as Izzy cutting denny's lvad wire.

  24. Simba

Why couldn't the prisoner sign a DNR form before committing suicide? Wouldn't that stop Derek from performing surgery to save him?

  25. fan of the show

    discomfortable=unsatisfactory
