You're right. At the very least, Ausiello said there was a possible proposal later this season. Who it is, I have no idea at this point. If it is Meredith and Derek, I have to wonder if whomever gets the question popped to them will say yes, because the odd seasons seem to have bad outcomes for Meredith and Derek (Season 1-Addison shows up, Season 3-Meredith say's "It's so over" before they "break up").
I too would like to see some McDreamy character building. He's obviously got some issues and I'd like to see them worked out a bit more.

I remember that they said a proposal would happen this season... my guess is, it's going to be someone unexpected. I could see Alex and Izzie getting married because Izzie is in such dire straights. And the Alex/Izzie thing has gotten so great lately... I just think that's a possibility.
As for Derek quitting, I think it adds and interesting dynamic. Derek was a bit of a mystery since season 1, his character was always a little bit less fleshed out on screen than the others. I'd like to see the depths of Dr. Shepherd's soul. :P

I accidently posted without finishing my last thought.
So anyway, Derek has issues and now is not a good time to propose. I actually buy that. Burke proposed while he was having issues (or right after those issues were addressed) and so did George and look where that got them. I think they both need to be on somewhat solid ground before any kind of proposal happens. That being said, I hope that the place where I didn't originally think it was going is Meredith learning how to be the solid one in the relationship. Obviously, Derek is really messed up right now and needs someone to lean on (which will probably be exacerbated after the deposition). He's going to have to regain his footing and Meredith is going to have to figure out how to be supportive and help get him back on track.
I'm thinking that the best case scenario is that Meredith is being supportive while trying to get him back on track.

I don't think Meredith will propose. I don't think there will be a proposal at all this season. Most people think Meredith and Derek are heading towards engagement so the writer's comment makes me think that it's not going to happen. Though, I have to say that if they break up, the show will probably lose quite a few viewers. People are sick of the on again/off again thing. I might be inclined to say they are heading towards a break up because Shonda said they are together for good and then qualified it with a "for now" before the season started. I just hope they aren't that stupid.
I'm hoping that I'm wrong though and that it just ends up being a little role reversal where now Derek is starting to work out some of his issues so now is not a good time to propose

I hope that eventually Derek will propose. I think that's how it should be, because he was always more ready for the marriage than her and that's somehow the naturall course of actions, how it's supposed to be. But, again, it's Shonda, gyes. Impossible is nothnig. :))))

Patrick wouldn't quit. Because on every interview, he's said how much he likes doing the show. They're just doing this to scare the viewers into thinking he's going. Derek may quit surgery, but something will happen and it'll change his mind. Hopefully something which Meredith does.
As for Meredith proposing, a while back I couldn't see it happening, but lately she's been a lot stronger than Derek. Especially in these crossover episodes, I'm starting to think that could happen.
Unless the writers are trying to throw us off to make us think that Meredith will propose and then Derek does it!
I don't think anyone will ever work out what's going on in Shonda or any of ther other writers minds!

Oh my god! I nearly had a heart attack. I thought for a second that PD was quitting! lol. I think Derek'll quit and go fishing, then realise that doing brain surgery on fish isn't fun and go back to work. Ooooh it would be great if mer proposed :D

Remember when the writer for last episode said Mer/Der weren't heading where you would think? I think they are reversing the roles and Mer will end up proposing.
