What is really refreshing is that on the ABC forums and other fan websites, Arizona is being received really well. As is her relationship with Callie. There are a few spoilers being released about Callie's dad coming to town, and Callie's description of her relationship with Arizona looks really promising.
What is also cool about the Arizona character is that she wasn't just dumped in the show as Callie's love interest. They brought her in as a character in her own right, with a story to start with.
I hope that Jessica Capshaw is brought in as a regular next season, and judging from the mainly positive reaction to her it looks like she might be.

I am not against homosexual stories. One of my favorite couple was Bam aka Bianca and Maggie on AMC. I just don't buy Callie as gay. That doesn't make me anti-gay. If I was, TR certainly wouldn't be my favorite actor, duh!
I really wish TR had the airtime Arizona is getting. Everyone but him seems to have stories.

Can I just say,it's nice, and refreshing, to see people engaging with each other maturely on this! :)
I will also say that I do know folks who are gay who didn't even consider that they were gay until later in life. In fact, I think we need to accept that people are just so different in so many ways. I think for Erica it was clear immediately, and Callie is maybe figuring it out differently. She might show more resistance to her own feelings, she might be more analytical about it, who knows? But this is perhaps the greatest contribution of the show - they are showing that everyone can be (and is) gay differently. I did read that they were going to do a lot of research on how to do this storyline. All the comings and goings and the related controversies aside, I think we can look at this as the playing out of a storyline. I have to say, I never liked Erica, and can see her nastiness and intolerance as having been a 'tension' in her relationship with Callie down the road. But don't th

Arizona is not a pediatrican. She is a pediatric surgeon. There is a big difference. I'm glad she's staying, although I don't love her w/ Callie.

If someone is against homosexuals and gays in general.. that's a different case. No one is portraying that image. I think a lot of fans are pro Callie and Mark (because of their on-screen chemistry) and on the other hand- some fans just don't think its fair to bring on more characters when their favorite ones are barely getting any storylines or lines for that matter.
I have many homosexual friends and I have absolutely nothing against them and I don't think differently of them. I respect them and I don't treat them differently because of it. I just don't personally think Callie specifically is a lesbian. Her character doesn't fall into that line..(the way things went down with Hahn just show that to me) bringing on Arizona as a lesbian is fine and I don't mind.

I very much appreciate your comment. Very important to say, to hear and to understand. I am not anti-gay at all, though! I'm not asking the show to speak to the masses at all!! I'm not a hater-- please don't call me that or assume that I am. I just don't think the character of Callie is gay. Although, I appreciate your real experience story that has opened my eyes to the fact that some people can just all of a sudden realize they are gay. I didn't think it ever would happen that way, but I myself am not gay, so I appreciate a real-life example given that one can just suddenly realize it that way. I always thought that it was an eventual journey, often kept internally b/c of all of the societal labeling, reactions and hate. But I didn't think someone realizes it all of a sudden. I don't know-- I really feel that Callie's feelings with Mark especially were strongly heterosexual-- that's all I'm saying. And I thought that attraction was very essential to the char

I'm with McHappy and McCynic...I'm not gay either but I LOVE Callie and I totally agree that seeing homosexual couples on TV is nothing different to seeing a heterosexual couple. My brother is gay and hate that in 2009 same sex couples aren't seen as the norm. Who cares, love is love!! Why should they show something anything different on a top rating TV show.
People need to get over it and move on. Love is Love and Sara Ramirez and Jessica Capshaw are great actresses which is shown and proven with their chemistry as Callie and ARizona.

Very well said Mc Cynic. Thank you!!! I myself want to see something I can relate to. Just like everyone else does. And I don't think that it is wrong for me to feel like this. From the very beginning. I wanted to see someone like myself on this show. I just hope the story can be wrote with class so that people can learn to be ok with it. I don't mean love it. I just mean be ok so they don't freak out. I love this show and have from the beginning. It isn't only because of the lesbian content. It is a great show that covers alot of subjects. That are very interesting. I'm now counting down the days, so I can see what is up with Izzy and praying that poor Derrick is going to be ok. Poor thing looked so pitiful in the promo pictures of the 3-12 episode. He has to be ok so he and mer can get married and start having them crappy babies. LOL!!!

I'm with McHappy. I'm not gay - but I like the storyline. I think it's extremely important that homosexuality is recognized to help build understanding and to counter discrimination.
And the point of a tv show should never to be to speak to the 'masses'. It should be a manifestation of creativity that can speak to all different people in different ways. While to accredit it as a manifestation of 'creativity', I do think that speaking to different people is probably why this show is so successful. I really like Meredith (even without Derek) whereas Izzie and George and others don't really do much for me, but are key for other people. The only thing that matters in relation to the masses is the way that the tv shows and the networks are dependent on numbers to sell advertisements.

If you people don't like the lesbian relationship or Callie and AZ. Why are you over here posting in a place where fans of AZ and Callie are supposed to post. I am a lesbian and I'm enjoying watching Callie trying to find her happiness. And you talk about her just all of a sudden deciding she is a lesbian. It happens like that sometime. And sometime you know it all your life that your lesbian. But you won't admit till your older. I didn't come out till I was 24 yrs old. Cause I didn't want to deal with people acting like you all have acted over Callie coming out. There is alot of fear dealing with and admitting your gay. And there is alot of young people dealing with there sexuality and the hate that you all are displaying here isn't helping. I have heard many story's about young people killing themselves over this very thing. So try and be kinder. I myself don't want the blood of anyone on my hands. And weather you believe it or not there are alot of teenagers that come to these board

Seriously! Good point about Callie and her needing to be relationship free. For example, Cristina took her time to move on from the break-up of her and Burke. She didn't run around trying to decide if she was a lesbian or not. She didn't jump in bed with random guys either. She focused on her work and friends. She didn't tell everyone she's celibate because Burke left and she's single. Callie just broke up with Hahn not that long ago, so why are they making Callie out to be so flakey? She's never been that way. She's always been headstrong, confident and smart.
I guess I still don't get why they kicked off Hahn if they're going to try and bring someone to replace her? I know they have diff personalities.. but it still involves Callie as a lesbian
Yeah. Bottom-line stop bringing on new people when the original ones are barely getting any lines.. it's ridiculous.

MS, McDreamyFace & drcookchick-- Thanks! And thanks for your posts too-- all of the posts in support of our George!!! I hung back for a while on commenting on this b/c I always want to keep an open mind. But enough is enough with giving all this screentime to all these new characters! No offense to Ms. Capshaw-- she seems fine, but I just want George on my screen!!!! If there isn't enough time for George, then they need to cut out characters that we aren't invested in, that aren't original core cast and stop bringing on new ones. Guest stars I understand. But the interns are this permanent fixture all season and for what? They don't add any value. And there's less and less George. And now Shonda & Co are adding a new regular ??? UGH!!!!
So, all you George fans out there-- lets band together!!! I have been trying to be patient. I have been living on faith that I will get some George time eventually, but I am running out of patience!!! And the crazy rumors don't

I was freaking out.. half the people responding on here were all about Callie and Arizona. I'm not saying don't put gays or lesbians on the show..(Bring Arizona on as a lesbian.. but that doesn't mean she has to hook up with Callie just because of it) I wish they wouldn't try to make us believe Callie changed overnight into a lesbian.
I don't mind Arizona coming on.. but why hire on people when George doesn't even get but 1 line in every episode? It's ridiculous.. They need to forget about new people and focus on the core of the cast. (the original interns) The show is not supposed to be about Callie's undecided sexual orientation.
George makes this show fantastic and she's a fool for diminishing his role.. I hope him and Katherine stay on and they bring back their friendship :D

LOL McDreamyFace!!!! I agree, I think that Callie is not actually a lesbian-- she is just experimenting and will discover that she's really not a lesbian.
As for Arizona's character?? I really want more airtime for George. Not for new characters. AZ seems OK, I guess. But George needs more screentime and new characters just suck up more screentime from the original cast that we are invested in, in love with and would like to see more of.
People say TR's a diva? I don't believe that. People just say it. His colleagues say he's fantastic to work with.
People say TR and KH are leaving? TR and KH haven't said as much. AND Shonda has said they aren't.
As for how TR feels about his lack of screen time? Well, since I've never spoken with him before, I don't know for sure. BUT if I were him I'd be upset. He's an actor who wants to act. Therefore, I would think he'd be itching for some screen time.

If Shonda wants to prove she is not homophobic, how about using the one gay actor they have and giving his character a real straight love story. It's like she is scared of putting a gay actor in a straight romantic role.
That would convince me way more than insta-lesbianism.

Callie needs to go. She is a big manly woman that scares me. Please pull her hair up she looks like meatloaf. The lesbian story line is not appealing to the masses. Sure a handful of homosexual viewers love it but the majority want story lines focused on the core group with interesting issues.. Stop Killing the show!
