Gossip Girl Round Table: "The Grandfather"

at . Comments

Welcome to the Gossip Girl Insider Round Table!

As fans gather in our The Grandfather" include memorable quotes, Lily's past, poor Vanessa, Chuck's quandary, and what's up next for Nair and Chair ...

1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from the episode?

DANdy: When Carter referred to Chuck as the "Bass cop." The pun itself was atrocious, but gotta admire the guy for trying.

Gossip Guy: I think I have to give this one for Dan when he asks Vanessa, "do you think the Humphreys have a crest that Jenny could sew onto one of my cardigans?"

Mister Meester: I enjoyed Vanessa's lamenting to Dan and Jenny about Nate: "We broke up. Well, we didn't actually break up, we just ... it is what it is." A perfect summation, as none of us know how to describe their relationship either. I also loved this exchange: Serena: "Chuck, she's embarrassed, so we've gotta give her time to lick her wounds." Chuck: "Maybe I could lick them for her." I don't even know what that's supposed to mean from a sexual standpoint, but you knew he was gonna go there.

2. Will the past continue to be an issue for Lily and Rufus?

DANdy: Maybe. I just don't feel like I know enough about Lily's past to form an opinion yet. If only there were some upcoming TV show that would shed more light on it...

Mister Meester: I don't know, but if this was a Lost spoilers-style flash forward of sorts, setting us up for some of Lily's past trysts as shown on the Gossip Girl spinoff, kudos to Josh Schwartz & Co. I cannot wait to see an impressionable young L (Brittany Snow) getting trashed backstage at Nine Inch Nails and Guns n' Roses concerts.

Gossip Guy: I'm not sure which part of their past I'm shocked about, the rock star Rufus' numbers being so low or Lily van der Woodsen always being alluded to as such a slut yet only have two pages of names. I was expecting a novel. But to answer your question, no way. Rufus is too calm and collected.

3. Do you feel bad for Vanessa?

Mister Meester: A little. We were just starting to get to see a little of Nate's relationship with V and it wasn't all bad. Then her own goodness in pushing him to reconcile with his family ended up being her undoing. That's just cold, fate. Cold.

DANdy: Yes. All that bashing, courtesy of Gossip Guy, every week on the Round Table can't be good for her self-esteem.

Gossip Guy: Seriously? Next question.

4. Should Chuck have done as requested when Blair said "take me now," or did he handle the situation correctly?

Gossip Guy: Chuck, I admire that you were trying to do the right thing but you are a better man than I. Idiot.

DANdy: He handled the situation properly... for any normal, self-respecting human being. But that's not what we want from Chuck Bass! Dude should have chucked his reservations and tapped that Bass (that's how it's done, Carter!).

Mister Meester: Bless his heart, Chuck has now passed up multiple opportunities to close the deal with Blair because it wasn't perfect. This man is a softie at heart, despite his earlier claims that he doesn't have a romantic bone in his body (least of all that one). He had better sleep around with his chiropractors in the meantime, though, lest this revelation be leaked in a Gossip Girl blast and sully his reputation.

Did Chuck Bass blow his big chance at Blair Waldorf?

5. What's next for Blair and Nate?

Gossip Guy: OMG. I knew this was coming from all the Gossip Girl spoilers, but it still kills me to watch a man other than Chuck in there.

DANdy: Breakfast, served by Dorota.

Mister Meester: I'm looking forward to the love quadrangle in next week's episode, with Chuck and Vanessa teaming up to get back and Blair and Nate! That should be good, as Jessica Szohr and Ed Westwick are definitely comfortable smooching (see Miami pics). Unfortch, my guess is Nair is in and Chair out for the forseeable future.

I used to be a huge Blair-Chuck shipper, but that whole Elle storyline ruined everything for me. It just completely trivialized Chuck's past feelings for Blair and his current one because it seems Chuck does not really love Blair as much as Blair loved him, let alone love her enough as she deserved to be. I'm actually quite excited to see the Blair-Nate hook-up. The scene with them in the room when they were talking about the past was really sweet. I know that Nate was a total arse to Blair in the past, and I've been one to vehemently curse Nate to hell for screwing with Blair over and over before. But it really does seem that he's different now. And Blair needs someone tender and sweet who will take care of her and put her back together. Nate is part of the past that defined Blair Waldorf as we know and love, and perhaps he'll be able to help Blair become herself again. Bottomline, I just really want to see Blair happy and loved, because it seems her whole life she always loves people around her more than they love her back.

1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from the episode?
A: Have to give my first favorite to Chuck, "Maybe I could lick them for her." Second favorite has to be Serena after she slapped Dan. Third has to be dear Blair, who, when trying to take a slap at Chuck, said "Maybe I should take it on the roof, make it more dramatic." 2. Will the past continue to be an issue for Lily and Rufus?
A: I think it will. They seem to have some complicated ropes between them. 3. Do you feel bad for Vanessa?
A: Yes, however I can't say exactly why. I don't pay too much attention to her storyline, however in the scenes I did watch her face just caught me. 4. Should Chuck have done as requested when Blair said "take me now," or did he handle the situation correctly?
A: It looked like it was really hard for him to say no, but I'm glad he did. If he had "taken her now" he would have sealed the deal that B and C would never work out. It would have meant he just wanted sex more than B herself and Blair would have realized that one day. Nice to see that Chuck is a softie at heart. 5. What's next for Blair and Nate?
A: Some moments that bore me to tears but will make Gossip Girl SO much more interesting.

1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from the episode?
A: Normally most lines from Chuck would be my favorite, but I have to say Dan had a few good one's in this episode. After Serena slapped him and he commented that Rachel wasn't his teacher. I found that quite humorous. 2. Will the past continue to be an issue for Lily and Rufus?
A: At their age it shouldn't be. They were acting like their teenage children. At their age they should have pasts so get over it already. 3. Do you feel bad for Vanessa?
A: Truthfully no. If Vanessa left the show I could honestly say I wouldn't miss her. I do think that the way Nate told her he wasn't going with her was pretty cold and harsh, however didn't she kind of snake Nate away from Jenny. Karma's a bitch. 4. Should Chuck have done as requested when Blair said "take me now," or did he handle the situation correctly?
A: As much as I love the Blair/Chuck sex scenes, I agree with everyone and think he did the right thing. As it's been stated, he would've taken advantage of any other girl, but with Blair his upper brain is in charge of his lower brain. I will say though I don't think he fought hard enough for her. 5. What's next for Blair and Nate?
A: In the end I want Blair and Chuck together, however if she isn't going to be with Chuck, Nate is definitely my second choice for her. Besides, Chuck should think that if there was one guy she may've loved as much or more than he, it'd be Nate. His biggest competition. I do enjoy the Chuck/Nate/Blair love triangles.

i juz wanna see chair get together soon!! if chair doesn't hooked up at the end of this season i definitely won't be watching Gossip Girl again!!

Nuh-uh - best quotes have to be: Blair: "Why don't I just put it on my Facebook?" And Chuck: "I don't have time to be playing, Where's Waldorf."

1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from the episode? - This episode is truly a GG classic. There was witty lines all around, everyone truly delivered this episode. But, although I have a long list of faves, Chuck totally takes the cake when he delivered a truly Chuck-ish line to the internet porn dude. "Big fan of your sites", and in such a deadpan and normal way, it was hilariously serious. 2. Will the past continue to be an issue for Lily and Rufus? -Ugh, why are we even talking about this!? Do not get me wrong, LR shippers are respected, but, seriously!? Why are they even in the show, all they do is provide filling for the show to get longer, I don't know, there is just something off with these two! But, getting back to the question, Lil and Roofie, you are gonna get a some more blasts from the past, trust me, the writers apparently love the 80s. 3. Do you feel bad for Vanessa? - I should, but then that would mean that I would have to actually think of her. No love for you here, V. Moving on... 4. Should Chuck have done as requested when Blair said "take me now," or did he handle the situation correctly? - Truthfully, what he did was so Un-chuck-like, but this just goes to show how in love C is with B, not just for the game or for the sex, but how C is truly, deeply, in love with B. This is total proof that C is maturing for B, for love! If B doesn't take the hint, the I don't know what's right in the word anymore. 5. What's next for Blair and Nate? - Termination, I hope. I am not sure if that even qualifies as a word, but, anyway, NB are great buds, anything more than that is just pure torture, in my eyes. Do you guys not see the love between C and B? If you don't, the you must be visually impaired. I am not at all excited with N/V/C/B love quadrangle, I love me some N/B/C tension, but anything having to do with V, even the slightest mention of the letter, makes me want to gag. And, cue gag reflex.

1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from the episode? It is totally when dan was like do you think the Humphreys have a family crest that jenny could sew onto one of my cardigans? i could not stop laughing... i give props to fan in this ep :) 2. Will the past continue to be an issue for Lily and Rufus? This question is kind of stupid because if their past wasnt rocky, they wouldnt be making a spin off of it... which im really excited to see britney snow playing lily! 3. Do you feel bad for Vanessa? This may be cruel but i dont feel bad for her at all! Nates going to be doing something that could benefit his future and yet she is mad he doesnt want to "travel." maybe now she wont be able to use his money to go to all the places she wanted to go :) sorry not a huge V fan. 4. Should Chuck have done as requested when Blair said "take me now," or did he handle the situation correctly? Any chair fan would want him to shut up and ravage her right then and there.. but i think it was summed up on the puppet recap of the show... if anyone hasnt seen it go on soap net they are hilarious! 5. What's next for Blair and Nate? They are obviously going to date for at least a god episode or 2 ... :)... but producers did promise us chair fans to be patient and i dont think they are asking us to wait till season 3 :) EXTRA QUESTION BY ME!
What do you think will happen in the remains of the j?
Nate is going to be helping blair out and that is when chuck comes up with a plan to make them jealous with vanessa... this will give blair the same idea and do it right back, but genuine feelings will come out of that, and chuck will just kick V to the curb... she needs to spend more time back in Brooklyn anyways

1. favorite quote: actually dan for once, when he said "do you think the Humphreys have a crest that Jenny could sew onto one of my cardigans?" that just made me laugh. 2. lily and rufus' past:
i dont think it'll be an issue anymore. rufus basically said that he was ok with everything lily had done. and they agreed to move forward which is good because honestly, i think that that was the dumbest idea EVER. 3. feel sorry for vanessa?
normally i wouldnt, but i do. like mister meester said, the beginning of the episode was cool because we got to know nate and vanessa better and the relationship was actually cool for once and then all the sudden nate got really evil and totally dumped her for the mayor lol. 4. should chuck have "taken" blair?
no! i am so glad that he didnt, because thats exactly the kind of shallow CB that we've been having lately. this showed that chuck really loves blair and that hes willing to wait and help her. i thought that was really cute :) 5. whats next for blair and nate?
well. i am a huge chair fan but i have to admit, nate and blair were HOT in this episode. i am glad that nair is happening because i think its a really interesting plot. i think they should have a really cute fling and that will give chuck a chance to fight for blair, and then eventually chuck and blair can be together :)

1. blair to nate "don't forget your jacket". i just thought she'll said something more to him, like thank you or anything else.
2. i think rufus is to kind, that's not gonna matter anymore.
3. slightly.
4. i think so, and it's cute that shows chuck has actually a heart. hehehe...
5. they're cute together, and when they both go in that place they usually dated to think, i think it's cute, also when they were reminiscing with their past, i think they really understand each other. i'm starting to really hope for them, but i know in the end it will be not them. sigh...
