Last night on Gossip Girl, rich mothers and daughters clashed in both 1983 and 2009. Lily Rhodes (now Lily van der Woodsen) was the focal point of both story lines.

The fate of the Gossip Girl spinoff remains up in the air, but last night's '80s flashbacks offered our first glimpse of what it would look like. The verdict? Pretty mixed.

While parts of the '80s story line were charming, you got the sense that this was a tad cliched, and more importantly, watered down some of the present-day stuff.
