Katherine Heigl Will Vie For Emmy This Year

After a firestorm of controversy erupted around Katherine Heigl's decision to remove herself from Emmy Awards consideration in 2008, citing a lack of exceptional material, the Grey's Anatomy heroine and lightning rod has reentered the derby this year, EW reports.

Heigl critics may claim that the 2007 Outstanding Supporting Actress winner is back in the race because of tensions that allegedly sprung up between her and series creator and executive producer Shonda Rhimes after she took herself out of the running in '08.

The budding movie starlet (27 Dresses, Knocked Up, The Ugly Truth), fans may recall, said at the time that she didn't have material with which she could compete.

Katherine Heigl: Leaving?

But some believe it's likelier that Katherine knows, whether viewers loved or loathed the Izzie-brain tumor story, that she did a heck of a job with her character.

Katherine Heigl has already earned one high-profile endorsement - Rhimes'.

"I think she did beautiful work," Rhimes raved in an interview last week, immediately following the season finale. "I think she always does beautiful work."

Besides, if it turns out Izzie did take the Seattle Grace elevator straight up to heaven, a second Emmy in three years would make a lovely parting gift, no?

I Think that regardless of what people say about her personality (and I have never met her myself, so can't say personally) that she IS a great actress on Grey's. Izzie is a great character, and she has played out many different emotions beautifully and believably. I loved when she was using her "sick cancer eyes" to get things from the rest of the docs, she did great at that, and then when it finally hit her that she was really sick, that was played out beautifully as well. The thing is, I feel all of the actors on Grey's did a great job this season. And, if you listen to Shonda, George/TR did not have screen time because she knew from episode one of this season that he was going to be John Doe and didn't want it to be apparent that he was missing. So he knew that he was being put in the background for a storyline at the end of the season. Maybe he will survive and have a big story line with recovering next year, plus the girl that loves him now that he saved her from a bus! An

Latest Emmy news: PD has submitted himself as Supporting Actor. He used to be a lead and now is suporting. I blame KH for this. He should start whining like KH to get more screentime. This is so unfair.

I swear that if Izzie lives and this does become Izzie's Anatomy...I'll be done.

TR and Ellen always make me cry. TR had about 30 minutes of screentime the wwhole season and made me cry more than KH did in the Stevens's anatomy show.

The girl whines and threatens and gets a great story. TR doesn't say a word and gets crapped on by Shonda.

    I hate that.

That's why the finale was my last Grey episode.

I agree with whoever said Kevin Mckidd should be nominated. He was, indeed, spectacular.

She's overrated. Every character she plays in every movie reminds me of Izzie. Can she play another character?

  7. SCGreysFan

She's completely overrated as an actor and frankly I was sick of her "all-encompassing" storyline this season. There are also so many deserving actors on this series - Sandra Oh, Chandra Wilson, Ellen Pompeo. And I agree too that Sandra Oh was given little to work with and little significant screen time and still she made the most of it and we don't see her whining to the press. Frankly, I hope Izzie flatlines and moves on to greener pastures. I also get the sense that Shonda Rhimes plays hardball and so perhaps this is her way of giving Katherine Heigl what she said she wanted. Have fun with the movie career.

I think we should just celebrate if ANY actor from Grey's was nominated for the Emmys...

That would mean that the series is heading in the correct direction... But all of us agree that this was the most HEART-GRIPPING season of Grey's Anatomy...

    I'm optimistic...

I can bet right now in Justin Chambers and Katherine Heigl (both supporting), Eric Stoltz and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (guest actors) (and maybe Loretta Devine?) - Patrick and Ellen up against very tough competition (with an entire series revolving around them; even Ellen loses in screen time to the other drama series' lead actresses).

Justin and Katherine grabbed all the possible screen time this season... even when they weren't on screen, everyone talked about their characters...

One person I feel sorry for not having more story arc is Sandra Oh. She needs more. And Sara Ramirez. PLEASE GIVE HER MORE SCREEN TIME, THIS WOMAN KILLS AT ACTING!

okay just give this girl a damn Emmy. she likes the attention...although no one was as good as previous seasons except for Justin Chambers, but not Emmy winning worthy..

I also wanna agree with the person who said that Sandra is the one who really hasn't been given any material for the whole series. Her major relationships with Burke and Owen are definitely distinct from one another, but they both require that same old hard-shell pluckiness from Cristina that I think we're getting tired of seeing. Frankly, I'm way more interested in seeing the vulnerable or nurturing sides of her that I know she has: her unwanted pregnancy, her realization that Burke is gone, (and if you caught it) her genuine delight when she informed Alex that Izzie's memory was back. Sandra is way too talented an actress not to be given more opportunities to show off these multiple shades more often and more thoroughly.
