@!greys - I don't think people are asking for more MerDer drama. They had their fare share of it, I think that they (including myself) are asking for a storyline more than just being the bookends for each episode.
Why should being together and happy not be worthy of a storyline? I like their dynamic with the SK (good drama, they got home and Derek dances or Mama Shepherd comes) and Derek's depression was brilliant. Even so, you knew they weren't going to break up. So what's wrong?
Derek and Meredith both have huge pontential for more storylines. Derek could be Chief, Mer could chose a specialty and both become parents. These are good potential storylines that bring the drama but also the good stuff that Grey's is known for.
If you noticed, not many people complained much about Izzie in S.2. Her character tends to get annoying and being a supportive character, as she should, lets Izzie be a good addition without annoying people.

@katieee, here are the answers.
1. Yes, EP is pregnant although we're not sure for how long. Statements are usually given after the first trimester so that can help. The speculation is that she'll give birth in September but no one is sure.
2. That storyline hasn't been released yet. They could easily stop production until she comes back or the show could go on with an excuse of why she isn't there. SR hasn't really said much on this more than EP is willing to give it a shot. My guess is that she and Derek finally go to the Bahamas to get a legal wedding. It'd be a reasonable absence.
3. The actors are initally contracted for seven seasons, not necessarily that the show will last only seven seasons.
4. Usually after the actor's contract expires, they either get renewed after negotiations or get terminated. The show might go on without the actors but it really depends on the network's final decision.
5. Rumor has it that she only will stay for 3/4 episodes but it's more l

I mean no offense to the Alex and Izzie fans, but this coupling has killed m,y love for Izzie. I just hate those two together. When Izzie was with Denny and George, I loved her.
Gizzie was my favorite couple, and I don't think I will ever forgive Shonda for stabbing all the Gizzie fans in the back.
I believe she really loved them, but ogot scared of the haters. I think she never realized how many fans Gizzie had.
Without George and with AI, I don't think I'll be watching much.
Also no offense, but why is Katie staying on Grey? She has all those movies piled up. She's a big star, does she really need this show who's declining really fast?

i am a huge greys fan but i have ben reading the comments and i am so confused! can someone help please?
1) is ellen pompeo pregnant?
2) if she is and she does go on maternity leave, then what will happen to meredith? will she go on a really long holiday or will she die again for a few episodes and come back to life or will she be locked in a hospital linen cupboard for a few weeks which happens to have a supply of food and water lol?
3) is greys only going on for 7 seasons?
4) if so then why? it should be longer...
and 5) is katherine heigl staying for the all of season 6 or for just one episode?

i was going to start this by saying that i was sorry if i offended anyone by saying that i was sick of Izzie. I clearly don't need to do that. I have had a dislike for not only izzie's character but Katherine Hiegl since she claimed she didn't have enough material to run for an emmy. If i had been shonda, i'd of fired her ass. TR knight is an amazing actor and i hope he goes on to have a great career and a really sucessful life. And anyone else notice how it was only after TR knight offered to be let out of his contract that Hiegl said she wanted out? And only when the cards were put on the table did TR actually leave? maybe if Katherine could make up her mind and choose what the hell she wants to do, maybe she would get some of her fans back...just a thought (lol that was a pure rant lol)

so she will probably be only in the fall. anyways the ugly truth movie is premiering next month, she just came back from filming in france for something else, ad now she's signed on to produce and star in life as we know it. come on, is she really gonna do all that and sitll be on for greys again?

@!greys: I totally agree with you! I'd really like to know more about Cristina's background and Alex's also! The story with Izzie's daughter does have potential, too. There are still so many things they can show on Grey's besides Meredith and Derek. People should be happy that MerDer is finally in a stable place with their relationship! Now all they need to do is build that house they wanted to have and maybe have a baby... But please NO more drama surrounding those two!

I liked Izzie's friendship with George, not their romance. Definately more MerDer needed, I would prefer for all of MerDer's housemates to move out(seriously two married couples sharing a house!). Izzie is going to have to be eased into being a Dr again. I can see her character going into remission for a while. I think the writers are going to have a real challenge to match GA season 5 critical and audience success. Surely there will be an annoucement from KH's agent in the next few days. I also am wondering if she'll just sign up for one more season only.

i dont get it, izzie didn't have all that much screentime throughout the seasons...she had season 2 finale when denny died, and season three she didn't really have a storyline until with george at the end of the season, and in season four she had NO important storylinebesides with george (who basically had the whole season)...so she's really not hogging all the room here guys.

i agree with Jelly Merder got SO annoying after 4 seasons of being on and off, it was all so repetitive! izzie's anatomy was a fresh start. this is an esemble cast, not just patrick and ellen folks...and not just katherine either...bailey has had ALOT of screeentime lately too and even so Alex...

I want Izzie to stay but with less story, although I don't want her backburnered like George was. Remember how some people complained George was on too much in season 3, and then Shonda stopped writing for him completely the two next seasons and we all missed him so much? And TR left for it?
There has to be a balance.
Every character should have some story. A whole season should never be given to one character, and no main character should ever be erased.
Because now, look, this happened to George, and now he's dead and we couldn't even say goodbye.
So I hope Izzie does have a story next year, but not that it takes over the complete show.
I also hope they let her grieve George. They were my favorite couple. No, they are. George might be dead, but they're still my favorite. I love their friendship too, and if they don't let Izzie grieve George, I'll be even more pissed off than I am right now.
I'll still watch a bit for Izzie, even though I'm not an AI fan. Just to see

Izzie is an amazing character and has turned into one of my favorite characters. But I agree with the vast majority of you that she has gotten way too much screen time. Shonda needs to show less of Izzie but not so far as killing her or the way TR Knight was treated (if that happened then KH is as good as gone) I'm not happy that TR knight is gone and George will probably be dead because I loved the Gizzie friendship sooo much. Believe me if both George and Izzie died then Grey's will go down fast no matter what shonda writes about.

I like Izzie, but I do wish she and George both had had screntime this year. I bet if they had given George just a fraction of the screentime Izzie had, TR would have stayed.
You have to think if a man leaves a job where he is paid really well, is loved by the fans and is loved by his colleagues, then he really must feel useless and unloved by his producers.
They must have made work there so awful, he couldn't take one more minute of it.
There was so much they could do with George, and they didn't. They marginalized him, and they overexposed Izzie.
So while I like her, I hope they reduce her screentime because if the show continues to be Izzie's anatomy, I'll start hating her.
There can be too much of something good, you know? And there's way too much of Izzie.
The fact I hate her with Alex makes it even worse.

What Gizzie debacle? I'm so tired of hearing that. Gizzie had a hell of a lot of fans, and they still do. In fact, the ratings were really really good when they were together and they started plunging when they broke up. Many Gizzie fans quit the show and those that stuck around for George are probably going to leave now too.
More like the AI debacle. Shonda got death threats when she married them and the ratings have never been so bad.
And no, TR leaving is all Shonda's fault.
She's the one who treated him like dirt.
Since he came out, she hasn't given him one romantic story. Kind of weird, no?
Of course Katie stayed. The whole show has been given to her on a platter. Do you honestly think she would have stayed if she had been treated like TR has been? No way.
She whined in season 4 and she had twice as much material as TR did in season 5.
If TR had gotten all this airtime, he would have stayed too.

@juglw - I don't think that they are the ones tempted to leave. Both seem to be very happy with being on the show (and not complaining about it).
For the family life, well, PD has three kids, all under the age of 10 and he's there for the show and for his family. He has managed to create a good balance and I'm pretty sure that EP is going to manage as well.
I do think that MerDer could have a heavy storyline after EP returns from maternity leave. If this show is just for 7 seasons, they need to get moving.
I want to see the McBaby. I want to see Mer deal with the transgression of becoming a mother and be the kind of mother that Ellis couldn't. I want to see Derek hovering and preparing himself for the baby as well. I also think that maybe Derek could step in and become Chief. That would be an entire new world for him and it could be an awesome/heavy storyline for him. Also, I want them out of Ellis' house and into their dream house.

izzie better not die! she is awesome! and yeh its a bit OTT but thats what makes it more exillirating to watch. i hate having to wait a week to watch it! you get so in to it and then it finishes it and then u gotta wait a week which seems like for ever but when its on. its just such an amazing show and izzie stevens should not die and kathrine heigl should not leave!

I did wonder whether the high profile of Izzie's storyline was to placate KH for the Gizzie debacle. I hope if she does return that her character is given a lower profile, there are 11 other actors who carry the series. I'm a big MerDer fan and I hope we get more that 2 one minute scenes of them together. I know the will they /won't they was over played. That was a misjudgement made worse by the writers strike and the fact GA had to have a hook in the storyline to make us watch it again.

I don't think people would be so pissed off by the amount of screentime Izzie had in season 5, if there would have been more Merder...
I actually was glad for the lack of Merder drama and that other characters were in the spotlight for once.
I know the show is called GREY'S anatomy, but everything revolving only around ONE character get's boring...
Izzie is an interesting character and Katherine Heigl a good actress, so I don't mind seeing more of her on the show than usual and I'm sure she won't be in the focus of the show that much anymore in season 6. (IF she stays alive! and I hope she does!)

I would be far more worried about GA if I heard that Patrick Dempsey was wanting to leave cos he had taken the character of Derek Sheperd as far as he could. Mr D always seems to be hinting in interviews that he is open to new challenges. Ellen Pompeo has stated she is signed up for 7 seasons, but with family life on the horizon for her perhaps she'll rethink that. If Ellen or Patrick were to leave there would be no Grey's Anatomy. The show will survive without Izzie's character

Come on guys! It's still Grey's Anatomy not Steven's. But since the fourth season and in the beginning of fifth was all the MerDer storyline a bit annoying. It was all the same I wan't to be with you, I don't want to be with you.. So Izzie's storyline this year was like a fresh air. MerDer was in the backround few weeks. I think it was good for a show and I enjoyed this season more than others. Izzie can't die!
