Hmm, I don't know.
I mean the actors on gossip girl are great because before gg they weren't that well known and so it was like gossip girl launched them. But having a well known star on the show takes the attention off all the others and I'm worried that if Hilary joins the cast she'll get all the attention and her character will become more of a promotion for herself and she'll become the star of the show, which is what many don't want to see happen.
I think it would be nice to have her as a guest on the show for a few eps but for a permanant role? NO! And with Dan? =/ So predictable.

yeah she's not bad at all ! why is everyoen so negative. Even if she's not your favourite, it doesn't mean she won't do a good job on GG> I think that she'll do very good !

Hilary Duff is scum! Eww! She'd totally ruin Gossip Girl! I don't even see how it can be any better this season except for the (finally) coming together of Chair but otherwise, it sucks! Now add the bitch in. OMG! EWWWW!

I am not happy about this at all. I don't think Hilary Duff is fit for the Gossip Girl. Her acting is eh and even on the George Lopez show when she appeared, I felt she ruined the episode. I don't think she will fit very well with the cast and ruin the scenes for me but we shall see what happens!

I used to lOVE Hilary duff, I was obsessed but yet I was 8 years old back when Lizzie Mcguire was popular so now I couldn't care less about her. As long as the character is interesting I don't think the actress should matter too much.
Dont get me wrong I like Hilary Duff but she is too disney.I mean gossip girl is about mature themes and someone coming off of a disney show dosen't fit well.(Well i don't think so) IDK it just doesn't fit for me. I'll just have to wait untill i see her in the episode.

oh no. Out of the millions of actresses on earth, how did Hilary Duff manage to land a role in Gossip Girl? Hopefully, she won't stay more than a few episodes. I'm not seeing the chemistry between her and Dan...but, I guess we will have to wait and see. She could surprise us?...or not.

I cannot say "UGH" enough. This is awful news. I think the casting directors need to be replaced. I can't think of anyone less believable as an actress than Hilary Duff. Downgrade!

one of the things that i like about gossip girl is that it is very self aware and funny. the plot line of an actress who wants a normal life so she enrolls in college has a kind of disney movie feel. i wonder if they cast hillary duff as a self aware sort of joke with the audience? i always like to give a show the benefit of the doubt and judge when i see it. plus, we don't know if she is going to be a 'bad girl' or a 'good girl' or whatever so we can't really say if she fits the role or not.
i am excited that they are giving dan a real relationship, dan and serena both need that, their characters need more depth. plus, i would be curious to see them do something that is actually interesting with vanessa.

honestly, I've always been iffy about Hilary. used to LOVE her on Lizzie McGuire but when she left Disney, honestly, she tried so hard to be this amazing singer (whatever...) and versatile actress (again, watever...) that well, i don't like her so much anymore.
so i don't think its the DISNEY part of her resume that annoys me, but the after disney stuff

I'm so annoyed right now. I heard in on E! just a few minutes ago and I'm extremely disappointed. I can't believe they'd pick someone as untalented as Hillary Duff to play on GG.
I'm hoping her role will be minimal and won't interfere with the show too much.

They should think about bringing Amanda Seyfried on the show. I think she'd be a great fit...or Evan Rachel Wood. Definitely Evan Rachel Wood. She's a great friggin' actress.

Yeah, I agree. I'm pretty bummed about this. I was just talking about how everyone on this show is actually very talented in their own rite. I don't find Hilary Duff to be a very convincing actress...I think it's gonna get cheesy. But that's only my prediction. Who knows, it could totally turn around and be the best thing that ever happened to the show. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
