I think that it is a little too soon for MerDer to have a baby. I think they should definatly should get married before they think about kids. I also think that Ellen should get maternity leave because she could of not signed up for another season of Greys Anatomy. Who ever thinks she shouldn't get maternity leave is extremly selfish! Your not the one pregnant so you dont know what its like!

I think it's too soon for her and Derek too be pregnent. I think they should get married first. So I hope they shoot the scenes before. Don't want a gap in the Mer story. Mayby she can hide it a little, well, Shonda is smart, she will think of something. Don't think we need too worry.

not to early for a mere/der baby but i think they need to jump ahead. maybe they could have a priest for them to make their wedding official before the baby is born but they should have mer pregnant because honestly then she can have some maternity leave. i think part of her leave will co-inside with the holiday break so that should make things better.

i think that she will probably be preggo on the show but the baby will die during birth to save the extra character in the show

Shonda says Ellen is commited to working on GA whilst pregnant, and presumably afterwards. I'm wondering if GA will completely end with Mer, Cris, Alex having finished their residency (please note I'm not sure Iz will still be around). They'll have to make huge time strides to achieve that, cos season 5 seemed to be about four or five months timewise. I would imagine babies will be a dilemma for Mer who won't want to be Ellis mark two and neglect them, but Mer will want a career too. Hope Der takes his share of responsibility for tha kids

Chrissy i'm thinking along the same lines, if they write it in it will probably be for alex and izzie! So far this show has been pretty predictable....

@ Chrissy - Don't even give the idea. She already gave the wedding away, we don't need Izzie baby too. Plus I have a feeling this wouldn't set well with Derek.

Last season, they aired new episodes with gaps of reruns in between. Maybe they would air several episodes in succession before Ellen gives birth. Then, film new ones when she returns.

I think that they should write her pregnancy into the show, but not as her child... She has already turned her wedding into Izzy's, so why not carry Izzy and Alex's baby. THis would seem like a hot topic considering all of the buzz around suragacy in Hollywood right now

There will be lots of carefully constructed scenes of Ellen hiding her pregnancy. The filming will no doubt allow for Ellen to go for her antenatal checkups, and give her plenty of time to rest in between filming. But when she has the baby, she will need some recovery and family time. They could send MerDer on their honeymoon, but I'd like to suggest that Der wins the HarperAvery award. MerDer go together to collect it, and Mer has to meet more of Der's family. Just a thought.

PD has been a huge supporter for MerDer and true, in an interview he said that they should get married and start to have babies! (Why isn't this man writing the show?) And also said that this could be interesting for Meredith given her tormented childhood.
I say that if the show goes on past S.7, ABC should make EP and PD executive producers (sorta like SJP in Sex & the City). Although I'm pretty sure that wouldn't set well with KH...

patrick dempsey already said something about a pregnant meredith. somewhere on this site you could read it so i'm pretty sure meredith is going to be a mother. and i think it might be nice to see

I think they should have a baby on the show. It would give the show a lot more Drama & give it even more viewers. The baby would be good for Mer & Dereks relationship. Patrick Dempsey even said it would. Fans would love the McBaby. If She Is REALLY pregnant then it would be hard to hide. Ohhh & You the "othandgreyslover" we need her on the show. With Meredith & Derek the show is some-what boring to a lot of people.

Maternity leave in work is usually defined by ABC's policies and state law (or at least in my country, state gives a minimum amount of days and the company can only add). I think it's about two months or so. So EP would be missing three to four episodes if she takes time off and production doesn't stop.
It'd be logical if MerDer went on their honeymoon or something and have PD off for a couple of episodes too. I don't think that ABC is going to be happy with the idea but it is a logical explanation.
Personally, I don't think it is too soon for a McBaby. They need to get MerDer storyline moving and both parties have expressed their wish for children. This would prompt the dream house moving, a different dynamic between them, Mer deal with not being her mother and better yet? SCREENTIME! I am not saying that she should be pregnant by the season premiere but probably by the second leg of the season.
