My heart sinks when I read questions about a MerDer breakup again. We've had that story line so many times and I can't see how a return to it would be tolerated by Ellen or Patrick or the fans of MerDer. Mer's whole and healed and post-it married to Der, the love of her life. Mer is the love of Der's life, so how can they split up if 'no one runs, no one leaves no matter what happens' is one of their vows to each other.
Mer is the focus, you only have to look at the trailers of the intro to season 6. Der is the spouse and lead male character. It'll be a bit asqew cos of Ellen's pregnancy and the writers taking care not to overtax her when she's filming. I'm so going to miss Mer for those episodes

This show hasn't been about the five interns all season because Shonda stupidly wasted our beloved George for one stupid cliffhanger.
It,s been the fab 4 and not 5, and that sucks. The fab 5 was so much better than the fab 4.
I love Gizzie a a couple and friends, but George's only scenes shouldn't have been about Izzie. He is her person but he is so much more than that.

Speaking as someone who is a Meredith fan, but not a big Mer/Der fan, I'm glad that they said "a focus" and not "THE focus." In one of the promos/recap shorts on the ABC page, the narrator says something about the show being the story of the five interns and that is always what I have believed the show is about and the main reason why I enjoy it.
I agree that Meredith is the lead and Derek is her love interest, but if it were to focus solely on them as a couple I just wouldn't enjoy the show as much. I know that there have been a lot of complaints about this past season being "Izzie's Anatomy" but I think that Izzie's story gave a LOT of characters some of their best moments of the season: Alex, Derek (with and without Mer), Cristina, Bailey, Lexie and even George's best (and practically only) scenes were part of the Izzie/cancer story. It brought the Fab 5 back together in a way that they hadn't been before.
Usually when the focus is on Mer/Der it is only on Mer/Der and

krista ,how funny! you are as shonda ...you don't say the true ...this program is called grey's anatomy ...if you don't work with the main couple at the moment merder aren't the focus of the show.This play to me don't like...

so, in the first half of season 6 we wouldn't see much merder scenes?
that makes me very dissapointed, because they are my only reason watching GA

I agree with Hannah. My experience from the past is to never believe in what they say again. I've gotten my hopes up so many times and then the things they said would happen, didn't happen. And what she said now; that it is false that MerDer are no longer the focus. Whata hell, last time I saw a new episode it was TRUE that they were no longer the focus. Izzie and her Denny&cancer storyline was the focus and had the most screentime all season. See, they're lying once again. Not a reason to believe it until we see it, I say.

Well they did just get married and made those promises "No running, to love even when they hate each other...etc" I'd hate for them to just break up after all they've gone through and they are married. And they're meant to be. And it would be stupid to break them up. People can be together for more than a couple months...

I'll believe it when I see it. past experience had led me to believe what they say and what we get is not always the sam thing.
As a merDer and Gizzie fan, I learned that the very hard way.

Technically, Meredith is THE leading character (hence focus of the series), meaning that Der gets significant mention there.
But this is good. At least they're not totally forgotten.

well they can't be THE focus...the show focuses on all the main characters...not just the two of them. Good to know that they will still have good storylines and not be pused back due to EP's pregnancy. This time in a month from now will be the premiere of Grey's woooooooo hooooooooooo

no they are not going to break up. but we will not see them as much in the beginning of the season because the actress is very pregnant.
