I don't think it necessarily has to mean that time has passed unrealistically and that fresh-from-med-school interns are coming in. Interns change hands sometimes; they can get reassigned to new residents (i.e. Karev started out with another resident and then was put on Bailey's team later... or how Baily told the chief after the Burke/Cristina-arm-tremor-incident that it might be best for Cristina to get a fresh start with a new resident). Also, the other possibility is that interns are transferring into Seattle Grace from another hospital, already having fulfilled part of their internship elsewhere (i.e. when George looked into transferring elsewhere to finish out his internship to avoid Izzie/Callie). So, let's not get ahead of ourselves and think that Shonda and Gray's is leaning too far into that suspension of disbelief by bringing in complete noobs to the show. Their goal is to satisfy the viewers, so let's have a little faith in the people who gave us 5 great seasons so far....

Why do people have a problem with the post-it wedding Meredith and Derek had.
I thought it as exactly what it was supposed to be. Nothing over the top - cute and sweet and simple.
Again...Mer and Der don't need a fluffy white wedding with a million people around.
I thought it was perfect and they don't need another wedding!

Okay more confused!
I just read that season 6 begins right were they left off in season 5, so I guess Lexie and the current interns has to take their intern exam at the beginning of season 6 somewhere!

Confused!!!
New interns?
So the new interns will have Lexie, Graziela....etc. as residents???
But Lexie didn't even had her intern-exam or maybe the show skips like a month or two after the fifth season finale,
Because usually a year in "Grey's" are 3 years in real, but usually there are just a week or not even that between the two seasons,
I mean after season 1, 2 and 4 there wasn't even a time-skip and after season 3 there had been just two weeks(thats the normal time you get free after your internship finishes and you can start your residency time).
So I guess, when season 6 returns the interns of season 4 and 5 already had their exam, and are about to start their residency and that means the old cast with Mer,Christina start their second year as residents.
So excited, can't wait for the new season and please are there any spoilers about the rest of the characters like Lexie/Mark or Callie/Arizona?
And I hope the air time of the "main" cast aren't changed through the newbi

I think this whole thing will be fun, but not to focus on it a whole lot. It'll be funny if they stretch it for one, maybe two episode like what the did with Megan and Steve and (?) Pierce. And then after that, maybe have them sticking their noses in, but no real focusing on it.

Glad to hear that people aren't so thrilled with this news.
Why are they adding new people all the time? It's becomming ridiculous! I love GA to death and will keep watching it until it gets cancelled, but not for these new characters who Shonda thinks we will not get enough of. I'm watching it cause of Cristina, Yang & Hunt, that's it.
The rating hasn't been falling because of too much screentime on the core cast. It's because of waaaaaaaaay too little screentime! I mean look at George! I barely saw him in Season 5. I even forgot him! Shonda lost a lot of viewers because of that! Bringing in these new characters will only deduct screentime from the characters that we love the most... meaning... the viewers will slowly deducting even more.
I want to GENTLY knock some sense into Shondas head. Sure they kept some viewers watching by bringing in KMK... but I don't think it's going to happen with these new interns. I think it will have an opposite affect.
Anyway, enough ramblin

I want to see more of the core cast. Don't care to delve must into the interns lifes. There are new guest stars each week and a new medical story each week. I hop Mer is'nt gone for more than 2 weeks.same as Baily when she was on leave.

It might be amusing to see these mini-me interns. And I think we are also going to see Mer's cousin, who is a med student.
But I honestly do not yet feel that we have gotten to see much of this year's interns, apart from Lexie...I barely know their names. They come across as sweet but goofy, and it's hard to distinguish them. They're just the "secret cutter interns" rather than individual characters, and it would be nice to get to know them better before yet another intern batch comes along.
The intern year is the 1st year of any surgical (general, OB/GYN, Ortho, neuro, derm, ophthalmology, and plastics [not trauma/peds/CT/surg onc cause those are fellowships post-GS])residency. The core regulars are currently 2nd year general surgery residents because last year (GA in-universe time not real time) they were general surgery interns.
It depends where season 6 picks up in-universe time. At the beginning of season 5, they were half-way through their 2nd year of residency. So if at the beginning of season 6, it's already that full second year, their current batch of interns would be 2nd year residents and the core regulars would be 3rd year residents. This would mean that Torres and Bailey would be either 6th year residents or be attendings in their respective surgical specialties, i.e. Ortho and GS respectively.
An intern-year/1st-year residents gets recycled every year. Every year there will be a new batch of interns/1st-year residents.
Keep in mind, that's in-univer

guys every show needs a side storyline. this isnt a replacement and i doubt they will be main characters. its probably just for the episode, and just tryig to show alex, mer, izzie, and christina that they were kinda immature back then, and how much they've grown. its a side story.. like when the interns were acting strange that day and george and mer tried to figure it out. its just for times sake. and im sure the only reason new characters are coming in to interest us that way we wont notice that much when meredith isnt around due to her maternity leave. so just relax and watch the damn show.

Shonda still doesn't get it. I agree with the previous comments. I don't want to see new interns. I want to see more air time for the original characters. I can understand why Patrick Dempsey throws himself in to his racing. I know he has a passion for it, but it must be very frustrating to be there for 14 to 17 hour days and get a minute or two of air time, weird story lines (post it wedding). The first two seasons were all about them and what was happening in their lives relative to what was happening in the hospital. Maybe she should go back to the writers of the first two seasons, maybe they moved to PP, and the Director Peter Horton (not sure of his last name). Oh that's right, Shonda said it didn't matter what the fans said.

Seriously, enough with the new people! No one cares about them! We want to see the people we love since 5 seasons and not the ones you want to impose on us!
I thought internship was for one year only, so after every year the interns would become first year residents just like Meredith, Cristina, George, Alex, and Izzie did, and there would be a new group of interns right?

Since Ellen's on maternity leave, the whole thing is going to be shot in a differnet order (the way I understand it). There will be some individual episodes without Mer and on the other episodes it'll all be about Mer.
Hope it sounds ok:)
