Consider yourself warned: The Vampire Diaries is not your typical, cheesy vampire show.

As previous clips and spoilers have revealed, the upcoming CW drama focuses on life, death, love and loss; some rather hefty issues for any series to tackle.

Below, the cast and crew members discuss their vision for the show at last month's Comic-Con. Prior to the panel discussion, the following video starts with one of the pilot episode's opening scenes. It will give you an idea of why The Vampire Diaries isn't rated PG:
