Gossip Girl Ratings Slide; What Can Be Done?
As One Tree Hill (2.5 million viewers, 1.2 share) managed to maintain its premiere rating Monday, Gossip Girl (2.1 million, 1.1) faltered in the 9 p.m. slot.
The ratings were down 21 percent from the season premiere, which was down even more significantly than that from the previous season's first episode.
To a point, we could not care less as long as the show remains on the air, and there has been zero indication from the CW that Gossip Girl is in jeopardy.
But on the flip side, a drop in ratings that were never super-high to begin with is somewhat alarming for a show that gets the amount of buzz GG does.
We love it like no other, but because we want to help Gossip Girl ensure a long, bright future, we can't help but wonder if improvements are needed.
That said, we're curious for your opinions on the following questions:
- Do you think the show has gone downhill? If so, why?
- What, if anything, can and should be done to fix it?

Stop with Dair? No way. No way in hell is that the solution, lmao.
Ratings are consistently higher than average when Dair is in the promos -- while the mid season finale, which toted the hell out of a Chair reunion -- had the lowest of the season.
Explain that.
I and A LOT of other viewers tune in for Dair and trune out when we realize it's all just a ratings game, and Dair is a ploy to pull us in but not keep us. I stopped watching mid season three because I was tired of the same story every single. season; only Dair has successfully pulled me back in. This is the case for a hell of a lot of viewers. In contrast to that all time low Chair ep, the seasons all time high was the episode that had the most Dair buzz -- Dan getting drunk and crashing Blair's party.
Explain that.
They can keep catering to the consistent viewers who have stuck around through five tedious seasons of the same melodramtic 'Chair' crap simply because they like said tedious crap, but that is not wha

Hmm, what can be done... Kill SS & JS in their sleep and replace them with Eric Kripke.
Rank: Extra

Maybe no more Dair interaction, except the previous "enemies" relationship they had before becoming this boring soo-to-be couple. Pair Blair with someone with charisma and wit to make Chuck jealous and really fight for her (he has a ong way to go to be forgiven...). Bring back Georgina, she was a funny bad girl. Get rid of Dan and his vampire sister. Raina and Nate has a potential, but I prefered Juliet. Nate and her had a little something. Give Serena another storyline than men. And yes maybe less breaks between the episodes because it's annoying to wait so much.
But to me, the most important proble of GG right now is both Dair.

Ok, it's an easy fix, or it would have been an easy one if it was done before seaosn 3 started or at least before the finale was filmed.
FIRE JOSH SCHWARTZ and STEPHANIE SAVAGE!!! For God's sake are these sutio corporates INSANE??? Do they want ot lose money or something?!?!?! I mean seriously people...
All the good writers are gone and now the crew is filled with newbees that have no incling of the depth of characters and are treating this DRAMA show like FRIENDS with lots of SEX! Which BTW is less meaningfull in this discriminating show, than it was in the books - I think people who HAVE read the books know what I am talking about.
- Storylines are getting more ridiculous than those on soap operas.
- No consisence in personalities
- Viewers cannot relate to ENTIRELY UNREALISTIC events
- Important real storylines with lots potential have been dropt since season 1/2 and not brough tup since (Blair's Bulimia, Serena's past pre boarding school and her time AT boarding school?!)

YOU KNOW THEY SHOULD PUT SERENA AND CHUCK TOGHETHER AND BLAIR AND DAN...THAT WOULD SURE BE INTERESTING AND SHOULD PUT THE RATE UP.... IMAGINE WHAT WILL QUEEN B WHEN SHE KNOWS THE GUY SHE LOVES IS KNOW IN LOVE WITH HER BEST FRIEND..AND WHAT WOULD SERENA DO WHEN SHE FINDS OUT THAT THE BOY SHE LOVES (DAN) IS KNOW IN LOVE WITH HER BEST FRIEND......
JENNY SHOULD BE PREGNANT WITH CHUCKS BABY!!!!!!!!!

OK, one of the things that got me interested was the serena story, she is soppose to be the mystery girl the "bad" girl and up till this day I still love her so make her the star she is. She was the Queen before she left for boarding school so bring back her glory and as a critic correctly said give the characters more depth, Nate? WTF I'm not seeing his purpose in the show, and little Jenny is suppose to be the new blair, so expand on that, and I think the writers should not be afraid to get rid of people in the show I mean no offence some of the main characters are dead weight for the show!!!!!

gossip girl started going downhill but the season final looked promising and you never know whats going to be around the corner.

bring back dan and serena!! i mean thats the whole reason i watched it the first season and why i stopped after they broke up. i mean bring them back. have blair go back to nate for the time being making chuck jealous so they can play their games, and just stop with the whole jenny being rebellious. thats so annoying. but first priority, BRING BACK DARENA!!! i still have hope for this show, please don't cancel it and please make it what it used to be.

ive watched gossip girl since day 1. i loved it. it was my religion.
i cant even get passed first 30 mins of the show anymore. it sucks. and everyone i know, feels the same.
they build up such great storylines that end in an epic fail.
they shouldve had more seasons in highschool and cut it up.

So last episode seems to be alright. I can sense a revival. I noticed Gossip Girl saying her classic catch phrases. But the show is on probation on my list. Lets see if it gets better. Atleast I'm a bit hopeful now.
