It's not the popularity of the show that is declining, it's the increase in the other ways people can watch the show. I never see it on tv but I watch it religously of surfthechannel and buy the box sets!

I don't think that people here are trying to tell writers what to do. They are professionals, that's true... But professionals make mistakes too. So, if we find a site for ourselves to write about stuff that we don't like and exchange opinions about what CAN BE DONE, there's nothing bad about it. Agree?
OK, some of us are Serenate fans, some are Chair fans etc. I don't think that bringing couples together must be bad. They just could have done more about Chuck's and Blair's relationship... push them further. Bring the bad boy back... That's all.

Be careful what you wish for. You all just HAD TO HAVE Chuck and Blair together....and we tried to warn you, it's a show-killer. Yet you cried, whined, begged. Now you've got them, the most-boring couple on the show.
Oh, dear TV fans, please just watch your show and stop dictating to the writers what to show on screen. They are the professionals. Putting couples together never works, it's been proven over decades of series. The romantic tension must remain. But this "immediate gratitude" generation just won't wait. And it killed their show. Too bad.

tonight is the new episode... let's hope they get better... couldn't agree more with you "gossip girl"...
gossip girl
March 14th, 2010 4:32 AM
i still love gossip girl, but it needs more fun in it! what happened to all the scandal and all the unpredictable parts?
the first season was good because of the whole Serena/Nate having sex and then S comes back from boarding school with this huge secret and Blair and Chuck getting together it was really good
the second season was good because of the Blair/Chuck games and Bart dying and graduation and Georgina being all good to help Blair with Poppy
the third season isnt as good because while there's Chuck/Blair, everyone is seperated and its not the same! the Serena/Nate thing is good but gossip girl needs the good stuff back!
1.fix dan's messed up love life
2.bring back all the good Chuck/Blair moments
3.do something about B being Queen
4.bring back the bad boy in Chuck!!
5.make Vanessa talk to Dan about his feelings
6.make Jenny work for Queen at Constance
7.more Bass/van der Woodsen/Humphrey family moments
8.do something with Nate! he's too good!!
9.bring back the 'm

I loved seasons 1 and 2.
But season 3's just so boring in my opinion, and I'm not looking forward to any future episodes, unlike before. I dunno what's wrong with the show, it's just that I'm not finding their ideas of dirt and controversies exciting anymore. Serena with a married congressman, Nate to the rescue, Chuck's "mother" making a reappearance, Jenny drug dealing... To me it all seems so "meh" for some reason. :-/

I agree with m83 the show is missing serious consistency. and Serena van der Woodsen. She is over. O-V-E-R. Her plot is so boring. But it's good they have her on. It gives me time to text on how boring she is. Well all the characters are very one dimensional. Chuck is the only one who seems to have a story as far as everything goes. He was the only interesting character that was there anyway. Hats off to Ed Westwick. I guess it might be the directors fault. I mean I remember the OC. It became very shit faced too. lol. Always did wonder. Doesn't Jenny go to school and have any social climbing of her own to do. or is she feeling so secure enough to just sit on her fat ass and run around dealing drug. Watch out little J. If you don't keep you minions off balance. Well they would get the better of you.
and I agree with gary bring back the scandals of season one i.e. the "Gossip Blasts"
Oh and BTW. Where the hell is Eric? Good point

Me and my friends watch show online since season one, and i don't think that online streaming has much to do with lower rating. I will admit, i loved the show. First season was great, it was unpredictable, but never stupid and pointless. Second season was interesting because of Chuck and Blair. I still watch the show and only for them.
Serena's plot is boring. She is all over the place. Nate, too. And i think show is seriously missing consistency. All that coupling is pointless. Nate for eg. was with every single girl in the show. And i'm pissed when something happens in one episode and the next one says nothing about it. Like nothing ever happened.
Too many new characters to fill the blanks. They should show transition of the characters with some real action like Bart's death was, or what happened when Georgina first came back, or when Blair didn't get Yale. It seems to me : no action = they all switch places and all of the sudden everything is fine...
Put Chuck in some real pro

I was slightly amused by this show and how the gossip girl blasts used to wreck havoc in high school. Now that Gossip Girlblasts are gone. It's losing it's oomph. These supposed 18 year olds trying to 30 somethings and Chuck running around is really boring. I mean yeah sure. He's rich blaa blaa and he wants to make a name for himself. But what CW is forgetting is that this show was targeted at middle class or upper-middle class kids, who dream of living that ever so pretentious life. I highly doubt anyone living on the "Upper East Side" finds this show of any appeal. They probably have better things to do than sit at home and watch a bunch of wanna be elitists run around Manhattan wearing emo preppy outfits looking quite like chavs. I remember Jenny has a huge fan base. But ever since she became rich bitch and Dan became privileged I think most people have no characters they can relate to. I loved this show at first because my friend and I went to one of those so called

The first season was great and I was enthralled! Then it went downhill from there. The problem is that there was always the same backstabbing crap happening all the time, and you cant top it anymore so the show lost its shock value. It has pushed its limits to the point where it became predictable and boring, and at the same time too slutty and distasteful. Everyone betrayed each other, slept with each other, and there is nothing else to top. The relationships on the show mean nothing to any of the characters, so why would it mean anything to its viewers? Especially when the whole show is based on relationships? Dan and Serena had a relationship that was actually real, interesting, and great but then it just ended. To keep a captivated audience you have to grab them emotionally but there was nothing left to care about.

The writers definitely need to stop making Blair annoying and childish! Blair Waldorf from season 1 and 2 was sexy, collected and poised; Blair from season 1 and 2 is what we want! Not annoying, irritating season 3 Blair! It may help to see more Chuck and Blair "cute-see" scenes. Although, I gotta applaud the writers for doing a good job with Chuck and Blair's relationship- I definitely was not expecting it to be as good as it is.

i would watch the show again (i stopped) if it was at 8 o'clock, and if it were more interesting. just got boring this year. serena's plotline is just awful (boring i mean) and blair and chuck used to be the highlight of the show. now.... ugh. the whole thing just isn't interesting enough for the 9 time slot. it should definitely go back to 8.

Definitely unleash Chuck and Blair again. Let them heat up and steam up the screen again with their hotness and tantrums and ploys and badness we love soooo much. Definitely let them sizzle and burn us. They are the reason most of us watch and continue to watch Gossip Girl.
Let the other characters have interesting plots of their own but keep in mind that Chair IS the MAIN REASON we watch.

They took too long breaks between season people moved on. But i think its a great show with more Dan story lines, more sex and threesomes this show can only get better. I loved the last two shows HOT id love to see how the rest of that night played out between vanessa and dan, keep up the good writing adding lots of sex and those hot guys you;ll be fine!

Yes, the show has gone downhill. Why? The characters are all split up now. Chuck and Serena aren't even in college. There is no longer a common ground holding them all together like high school. And because they are no longer in high school, no more high school angst. College just isn't the same. It's more fractured, and so is the storyline now. And where is the Gossip Girl voiceover? No more GG blasts alerting them to the scandal of their group. Just these snips and bits of plotlines and disappearing new characters. So yes, it's slipping in quality.

Season 3, while very good, is likely losing viewers who don't know why they've stopped watching. There are two reasons I can find. The first is the new tendency to have episodes that completely or almost completely leave out main and secondary characters. It was done in the first two seasons, but not every week. It's not uncommon for season 3 episode to completely leave out Eric, Nate and Vanessa, while only giving a few lines total to Rufus, Lily and Jenny. These "leave-outs" have happened to almost every character. Only Serena, Dan and Blair are safe. And a GG episode without Blair is something I don't want to know. I know it's tough to write 10 characters into 44 minutes, but I think they need to try harder. We love all of these people, flaws and all, and miss them when they're gone. The second change to the show is something that many might not have noticed, but part of the show's successful and addictive formula has changed. What am I talking about? I'll tell you. Gossip
