Gossip Girl Round Table: "Reversals of Fortune"

at . Comments

As readers sound off in our Reversals of Fortune" include memorable lines, Chair's sexy antics, Nate's family drama, rich boy Dan, the jet-setting wild child known as Serena and the semi-useless enigma known as Vanessa.

1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from the episode?

DANdy: Blair's observation that a model "looks like she needs a sandwich." Clearly a jab at new, fellow CW star Mischa Barton (of The Beautiful Life).

LovelyLively: I'm going with a series of quotes in which we learn that Serena hooked up with Cristiano Ronaldo and possibly Prince Harry, while Chuck once hit it with Ivanka Trump. Man these Upper East Siders get around!

Gossip Guy: Almost all my favorite quotes were uttered by Dan this episode. The guy was on fire! In particular I loved when responded to Vanessa's comments about $100 bills with "Do you know how hard it is to break one of those things? I don't know why they even make them." I've made the same cheesy joke when I was pretending to be rich off my singular $100 bill! Love that guy.

Mister Meester: Cheesy as it was, Chuck really got me with "I'm not Chuck Bass without you." How can you not love new, mutually-in-love Chair?

2. Chuck and Blair's game: Hot, boring or asking for trouble?

DANdy: Boring! The best they come up with is Chuck flirting with a girl and Blair interrupting his supposed infidelity before it's realized? Please. Chair can do better. Seems like this was only invented to confuse viewers at the outset.

Mister Meester: Hot! As the man himself said last season, what do you expect, Chuck and Blair go to the movies? He likes hitting on girls, she likes putting inferior ones down. Everyone wins! Whatever helps them spice it up.

LovelyLively: Asking for trouble. Serena nailed it when she talked about the slippery slope. Fortunately, both Chuck and Blair seem to realize there's a time and place for games, but simply being together can be exciting too.

Gossip Guy: I'm gonna be honest, it made me kind of uncomfortable. But whatever, Chair is still the hottest couple ever and Chuck even proved how romantic they were when he told Blair "I'm not Chuck Bass without you."

3. Rate Vanessa's uselessness this week on a scale of 1-10.

Gossip Guy: First off, I just wanted to say how much I've missed the round table for these questions alone. Holy crap Vanessa sucks. Look, when I was redesigning the header last month, I almost decided I no longer hate Vanessa because of how hot she looked. Then she shows up with hair so nappy it has flies in it (rewatch the outdoor scenes), a relationship with the lamest long lost brother actor they could have cast, and back to the same annoying anti-rich rants that even Dan got bored of. Stop being so useless or I will be forced to remove you from the header. 11.

Mister Meester: 6. She got in one fight with Dan and acted like it's the end of the world. But if there's one thing Vanessa totally would become indignant over, it's D selling out. I also don't mind her and Scott together.

DANdy: 7.5. Hey, she wasn't serving coffee and she was hanging out with people her own age. Those are major steps for V.

LovelyLively: 5. At least we saw some signs of life. She and Scott are - dare I say it - kind of cute? Maybe? A little? That actor is pretty bad, though. Is he supposed to be creepy, or can he just not pull off emotional and conflicted?

4. Will Nate really cut ties with his family - and what does his grandfather have up his sleeve?

LovelyLively: You don't cut ties with the Vanderbilts. They cut ties with you. The only question is how they try to use Nate (and Bree) to their advantage.

DANdy: Hmm ... the creepy old grandfather or the hot, young Joanna Garcia? See ya, Vanderbilts! As for said creepy grandfather: Considering that he hung up on Tripp without revealing his plan, I assume his goal is to save money on cell phone minutes and use the extra cash to do something mischievous.

Gossip Guy: I really think Nate will cut ties. It definitely has nothing to do with his grandfather's plan take advantage of Nate's relationship with Bree. It has everything to do with the Ferrari. Kind of a little cheese to take to college. What is this, Entourage? Show some class, Archibalds.

Mister Meester: Whether Nate tries to cut ties is irrelevant, since the grandfather is plotting to leak a Nate-Bree sex tape. Sure, this would sabotage his own grandson as well as Bree, but Nate is kind of his family's black sheep anyway, and these things are always worse for the girl. Yay, double standards!

Nate, Bree and Grandfather

WARNING: What the grandfather says and what he means are quite different.

5. Do you like the new Dan?

Gossip Guy: Hells yeah! Dan started off as my favorite character before he was quickly replaced by Chuck. But now, Dan is looking and acting cool, while still delivering some of the best one liners. How can you not love this guy? Plus great new hair. I'm thinking I might have to switch mine up.

Mister Meester: Of course. Sure, he needs to be backhanded for that hundred-dollar bill comment, but Dan didn't do anything wrong. If someone handed V a wallet full of Benjamins, no way she turns it down. B!tch.

LovelyLively: Oh yeah. Dan has transitioned into his new life of privilege quite hilariously. Some of his rich boy quotes and reactions were pretty priceless.

DANdy: Do you mean the longer hair? Yes. Other than that, he makes corny jokes and feels a need to be there for Serena. Seems like the old Dan to me.

BONUS QUESTION: How do you feel about Serena and Carter as a couple?

DANdy: A couple of what? They had sex in a forest. That may make one itchy, but it doesn't make a relationship.

LovelyLively: Still undecided, but I absolutely loved the scene where Carter Baizen awkwardly walks out of the woods. One question, though: he asks if anyone's seen a girl in an orange dress. Didn't he and Serena just ... you know?

Mister Meester: I've always been a Derena guy, but she and Carter have some real chemistry. He's so shady and arrogant, but he's hot, and seems to legitimately care for her. Sounds a lot like Chuck pursuing Blair, no?

Gossip Guy: OMG. I wanted to hate them due to my obvious love of Derena, but wow. Riding off on horses together and doing it in the woods? H O T.

I love the new Van der Woodsen - Humphrey family!
Especially when Rufus told them to follow his expression! LOL 1 think about the Carter searching for his clothes in the woods... Why would you take your shoes off to get it on?? I love the new Dan
I loved Jennys and Vanessas maxi dresses (minus Vanessa's horrendous hair) And in conclusion, CHUCK AND BLAIRRRRRR (L)

i totally agree with gossipguy on vanessa. girl is so useless shes ruining the show~!!!!!

mkay serena- acting profoundly stupid and infantile with that "imma gonna r!de horzez wearing that unbelievably expensive dress and then make out in da woodzz so meh daddz notices meee!1!!!111" thing, come on, she could've gone wild and still saved some undamaged brains. apart from that, a pressumable chemistry between her and uberhot-Carter looks promising, they look so cute together CHAIR-yes,please. more, please.needless to say I watched the episode practically only to see how they are doing together. the first scene scared the heck out of me but then it was just getting better and better yay. their dirty games might cause a danger though, i don't know where's this plot going to. jenny-omg what have they done to your hair? and to your clothes? crazy emo stuff Brate and Nee-i feel sorry for them already, looks like grandpa archie's planning to nip the thing in the bud Dan-no opinion, he's still the same guy, no idea why Crapnessa got so hyper with him vanessa-so you don't make coffee anymore and happen to have a bf who's not an upper east sider? this means you've actually made it and got even more boring than before eric-he seriously needs better storyline, felt sorry for him rufus-what a pavernu

Hurray! At last, the return of GG. So glad to see Chuck and Blair still has that special chemustry. Missed them. Dan's hot now. Maybe there can be a Dan + Blair storyline? I've always thought they're great and funny to watch, together. Have been a Derena fan but I'm impressed by The Carter+Serena thing. Hope the thing develops deeper. They're convincing. Did not mind Vanessa at all (all hiatus) but was irritated by her soon as i saw her on-screen. What is it with the character of Vanessa? Holier-than-thou? Thinks she's better than everyone else? I guess she's just one of those like her / hate her kind of nondescript screen-persona. Jessica is gorgeous in real life though.

I might be the only person that actually likes Vanessa. Yeah, it was a little weird she just showed up to the polo match but you gotta admit Dan ditching her for Blair was effed up (from her point of view). I loved the little fight between Nate and Bree after they were gettin hot and heavy on the helicopter. "You pulled my hair at Clinton's inauguration" ... "Take care of yourself." Peace out. That was cute. I loved Chair's game. Blair's planned out verbal whipping was great. They never disappoint. Umm.. I'm not liking the whole thing with Scott where everytime he's on the phone with his parents he's looking at a birth certificate or an article about Rufus and Lily. Does anyone actually do that in reality? I get they need to tie it all together but his storyline better get.. better. And nonononono Carena ! They're no good. Anyone else think Carter is like Chuck's long lost brother.. sexy, bad boy and great with the ladies ? God Leighton's one lucky b*tch.

My favorite quote was from Jenny. if she keeps up like this,i will like her a lot more this season. so here's the quote reffering to when Rufus was inquiring about Serena's adventures in europe and Jenny says " that's unfair, everybody's topless on Valentino's yatch". that quote was so Jenny
I loved Blair and Chuck in season2 and i still love them after Reversals of Fortune. i feel like there was a lot being introduced in this episode and the writers could not solely focus on Chair and i was completely fine with that. we have all season to see CB go on sex capades. i understand that we waited four months for THAT!! but c'on we have next week and the week after that and the week after that... plus we did have some cute scenes in there. Blair and Chuck are not boring. they are still trying to figure thgeir relationship out and when they do (hopefully next week) they will blow our minds
I've never had anything against Vanessa. for two season i sympathized with her because she wasn't very well liked and i felt like she deserved to be given a chance. i don't take any of that back. but WTF was that about. she was a bit too much, too controlling. i didn't like the way she tried to school Dan..because he has money. i didn't think that Dan deserved that treatment from Vanessa. i'm hoping next week she snaps back into her old Brooklyn girl self.
Nate and his grandfather are not going to cease quarelling. unless nate stops pushing his grandfather his grandfather will continue to control and get his way. nate needs his grandfather, that's the only family he has.
i always liked Dan, actually i love this kid since i saw the pilot ep of GG. he is perhaps the best written character on the show, so i always loved him for his jokes and comments. (blair comes second)But i have to say i love the new Dan as far as the look, love the actaul actor himself. my only peeve with Dan was his "not minding-his-own-business/ snitching" habits. i hated him for that. he acts like he's Serena's legal guardian, like he needs to know everything that's going on with her and he doesn't keep her secrets, he tells Vanessa, he even tell Rachel Carr though their relatioship was brief and he barely knew her. for this season i'm hoping he stops prying and having the urge to proclaim and disclose other people's business because that's really rude. so I don't know if i like him now anymore than i did before.
i love Serena and Carter. I was probably one of the first people to suggest that they become a couple. i mainly wanted to see carter in a relationship but serena is so perfect for him as Seb said himself they have this' it takes one to know one' dynamic therefore they'll make a very good couple. i'd like to see serena in a relationship as well so that she can have closure with Dan...not that i don't want Derena to happen in the future but serena and dan have such a weird relationship right now BF/GF/share a sibling/ friends relationship. they should just completely end their relationship as lovers so they can focus on being friends, which i'm sure they'd be good at and that will make their relationship much stronger. in the future when they are finally ready to be together, they can start a new relationship and they can be the Derena we love once again.

I like new Dan, not to sure about his though, probably am still getting used to it.
Vanessa served to demonstrate what happens when people don't comb their hair. Nate I can't really say, I didn't pay attention to him. Serena sounds as if she has an interesting storyline plus loving Carter, if only he was on it more. Chair, I agree with everything Kimmie said about them; they were more sweet then sexy but I loved finally seeing that side of them when they're together. I can't wait to see more of them in a relationship. Go Chair!

1. Favorite Quote: "I'm not Chuck Bass without you" + "I want you to be happy" one-two punch references to Season 2 key scenes
2. C&B's game: Trouble. B is feeling insecure about her future, new school, social status, etc. - will spill over to C. now that summer's over
3. Vanessa: 7. Bitches at Dan, admits would take limo herself, then stalks him at society polo match? B*tch AND a hypocrite. Ugh.
4. Nate's family: Nate will unsuccessfully ditch family over and over b/c he's a wuss at heart. Praying for "if you can't beat em, join em" phase mid-season.
5. New Dan: physically his face is all angular and his hair is too long, but I was so happy at him telling Vanessa off, i will forgive just about anything right now.
Bonus: Carena - hot! They have chemistry and she's not whiny with him like with Dan. I was worried with a "reigned-in" Chuck who would be the immoral compass of the show - welcome back Carter!

Did Jenny's hair not bother anybody??
I saw it, it was scary...

1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from the episode? Blair: “It’s not a milestone, it’s a gravestone! Settling down means death! Less sex, more silence. 2. Chuck and Blair's game: Hot, boring or asking for trouble? Asking for trouble! Obviously Blair is uncertain about it and will be jealous, eventually… 3. Rate Vanessa's uselessness this week on a scale of 1-10. 8, cuz she´s actually playing the enabler of Scott´s approach towards Dan and she´s Dan´s friend, so she’d be around anyway…even annoyingly and uselessly… 4. Will Nate really cut ties with his family - and what does his grandfather have up his sleeve? I think Nate will always be going back and forth with his relationship with his grandfather…grandpa messes up, Nate forgives, grandpa try to control him again, Nate escapes it, grandpa messes up, Nate forgives…and so on…. 5. Do you like the new Dan? Yes! Finally he’s not just judging everyone and making Humphrey statements of moral superiority and disregard for richness!! Just live it boy!! BONUS QUESTION: How do you feel about Serena and Carter as a couple? Seem hot!! But I still wanna see Serenate!!!!!!!!!
