Grey's Anatomy Spoilers: Derek Taking Over as Chief?
TV Guide has a brief note on Grey's Anatomy in its weekly spoiler Q&A today. Nothing really new here, but still, worth sharing. Here's what they have to say:
Q: So sad that T.R. Knight (George O'Malley) is leaving Grey's Anatomy. What can you tell me about the big sixth season premiere Thursday, September 24?
A: While pretty much everyone at Seattle Grace is shaken by George's departure (and in some cases very shaken), Derek somehow keeps it together. That might be because McDreamy's got something bigger on his mind: the promise of becoming the next chief of surgery.
What do you think? Will Derek take over as Chief? Should he?

Maybe it's because he "screwed" the DNR. The board may penalize him for that... I don't know. Just a guess.

I can see Derek as chief and he would be really great but I think that the scene was about Seattle grace combining with Mercy west and the new cheif because Derek was like they want me to be chief. Since Ellen Pompeo won't be around much, its good for derek to get some more screen time:)

I don't think he will become chief, or like someone says He might replace Richard for awhile. There was that flood and there rankings dropped. So maybe richard just needs some time off or something, but i dnt think it will be permenant, but then we never no what shonda rhimes will do.

Nah, i dont want derek as chief... He jus got married, he should b building his house...(i no that sounds reali corny)

ana: I think you have it 100% correct.
The chief hasn't improved SGH standing despite all the headline grabbing surgeries. All his networking hasn't been able to attract new surgeons of any reputation, and there is a vacancy as head of cardio.

I really can't see Derek being the chief of staff. At least not while Richard is still there. If Richard got sick and was out on sick leave or was on temporary leave for some other reason, I could see it. I'm just not feeling Derek as Chief of Staff right now.
If this was the end of season 7 and Richard decides to retire, I could see it. But not before then.

I think that Derek will take it but the Chief isn't going to be dismissed from SGH or whatever the name of the merger be. He'll stay and continue to train Bailey, I guess?
I'm really curious to see how this is going to play out. I want to see how Richard is going to deal with it. There is going to be some tension over there. This is what Derek wanted.
I think this is the storyline I'm excited the most.

Iknow that this spoiler is all about derek and the chief, but something different chatches my eye - who do you think is/are going to be the one/ones which is/are very shaken from george's death?? it definitely won't be mer, der, alex or iz according to the first promo..

I don't think Derek is going to become Chief anytime soon. I think that because of the "merger" with Mercy West Richard's job is in jeopardy, because the board may consider replacing Richard with Mercy West's chief of surgery. Now Richard is going to have to fight to keep his job. I think that is what the promo scene with Derek and Richard is about. I don't think Derek is thinking about replacing Richard but he my offer to help him with his job.
I also think the Chairman of the Board is there for to tell Richard about the merger and the fact that they are considering replacing him with Mercy West's COS.

I think Derek should be the cheif of surgery. But i hope that Richead will still be there for Meredith if she needs him.
