Gossip Girl Round Table: "How to Succeed in Bassness"

by at . Comments

Welcome to the Gossip Girl Insider Round Table!

With our How to Succeed in Bassness" include the two sides of J, a missing V, various plot holes and the major backstabbing yet to com ...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from the episode?
DANdy: Any time Dorota offers chess advice, while vacuuming Blair's dorm room, she'll earn this honor.
Gossip Guy: I loved all the Endless Knights lines throughout the whole episode but if I had to give an exact quote, it'd be the dialogue between KC and Serena at the end of all people. Serena claiming dating Roberts wouldn't be work and KC saying to call her after the second date. That tugged at my funny strings. Whatever those are.
Mister Meester: Blair's offer for Serena to help publicize a "members-only club SO exclusive it makes the SoHo house look like one of those dirty public schools with numbers for a name." So rough, in a hilariously condescending tone.
2. Do you prefer wholesome Jenny or Jenny the bitchy sellout?
DANdy: Can we see a photo of each option before deciding? I'll go with whichever Jenny wears less make-up.
Gossip Guy: Definitively wholesome Jenny. I've never been a huge fan (don't get me wrong, she's still 10,000 times better than V), but my favorite part about Jenny has always been her friendship with Eric. I can't believe she'd sell the poor kid out.
Mister Meester: It sucks to watch J ditch Eric for those losers, but watching her internal conflict is pretty compelling. At some point, the good Little J will prevail. Meanwhile, at least mean girl Queen J is making things interesting.
3. Did you miss V?
DANdy: Yes. Just a pinch of that stuff made me feel reinvigorated and alive! (There's gotta be at least one True Blood fan here, right?)
Mister Meester: You know, I haven't been as down on Vanessa this season as most. However, I do like how the show will leave people out (be it V or whomever) rather than trying to force them into filler. Last night's Rufus-Lily plot excluded.
Gossip Guy: LOL.
4. How long will Dan make Olivia levitate ... if you know what we mean!
Gossip Guy: From all the experience he's gotten with Serena, I'm guessing Dan will crush Patrick Roberts' record. Of course, I don't know what an impressive levitation time would be, so let's just go with all night long!
DANdy: For however long she claims he did. Seems like Dan will just go along with whatever Olivia says, doesn't it? You weren't dating your co-star? Okay, phew! Oh, you were? Okay, no worries!
Mister Meester: How will he know? Clearly she's good at faking it.
Oh-livia!
Dan hit it last night. But what does the future hold for Bumphrey?
5. Biggest plot hole of the night: Serena getting mad at Blair when plan ended up getting her clients good PR, Blair involving Jack in any way, or Chuck's decision to have his own club raided?
Gossip Guy: Absolutely Chuck having his own club raided. I still don't think police raiding your club would ever make people want to stay in your hotel. News flash Gossip Girl, people try and avoid the cops.
Mister Meester: Jack being involved. B had to know that would backfire on Chuck. Unless that was her entire agenda, in which case it also wouldn't make sense. After what he went through with Jack, she wouldn't pull that, would she?
DANdy: Nothing about Chuck's club made sense to me. Raiding his own club, in order to beat Jack to that punch, was fine. But he and Blair acted like it was some ideally devious, productive plan that will help the club in the long run. Hard to see how half a year without a liquor license will do that.
BONUS QUESTION: Next week's promo promises scandal, backstabbing, lip service, deceit and mud-slinging. Share your predictions.
Mister Meester: Clearly Nate's grandfather will stop at nothing to help Tripp get elected, but how Serena and Blair fit into the mix remains to be seen. I'm going to guess that Blair schemes to get back at S and pays the price.
DANdy: I've gotta imagine the scandal will involve Serena's low-cut dress; the lip service will involve the drool dripping from the mouths of male viewers and the slinging will be focused on the mud from her wrestling match with Blair.
Gossip Guy: Oh boy, mud-slinging can only mean one thing, more of Nate's lame political story line. But, OMG, did anyone else see Blair getting her face shoved in a cake in the promo? It was a brief second so I could be making this up.
How many episodes will Olivia be in? Three more? Do we know how her relationship with Dan will end? There seems to be no problems between them and I don't understand why would they have a threesome? Maybe Dan was not good enough in bed for her and she asks him to invite someone else? Haha just kidding, I don't see that happening
Best quotes were from Dorota; everything she said. I actually prefer the bitchy Jenny. Someone has to create some believable drama on this show. Was V not in the episode? Hm. I like Dan and Olivia together--somehow their mutual saccharine resolves itself into a palatable blend. They are cute. Now, can we please set up a basic love triangle here before everyone falls asleep? I am disgusted by everything happening with Blair's character at the moment, and think the writers should all do terrible penance for their crimes. Blair would NEVER call Jack when her relationship with Jack (another useless crime courtesy of the writers) was the one secret that nearly cost her Chuck's love at the very end, last season. Serena might well get angry at Blair, simply because she's dumb enough not to realize it was free publicity for her clients, who are not hurt by the whole police incident. However, Chuck would not call the police on his own hotel--especially not the new Pod Person Businessman Chuck we're being treated to at the moment. I was excited to have a Chuckcentric episode, and it really turned out to be a dud in that respect. The resolution of the Chuck/Blair tiff at the end, when they realize that their evil geniuses are complementary, was a giant slap in the face to whoever appreciated the Chuck/Blair interactions in season 1, episodes 1 - 6. If the same people who wrote that subtlety are responsible for this season, my explanation is simple: they are on drugs/booze now. If it's someone else writing now, I recommend carefully watching those first six episodes so you can gain some basic appreciation for what your two central characters are capable of doing, not to mention what the actors who play them can do. If I wanted to see pathetic caricatures, I wouldn't be watching this show. Let's get this Blair/Chuck ship back on track. Criminy, they barely even show them getting it on. This meekly smoochy couple is the back-of-the-limo pairing that made Blair into a Catholic for one morning?
1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from the episode? It is a tie for me between the interaction with Serena and Nate and the one of Blair's. Serena: You alone, Nate? Don't have any friends left to screw over?
Nate: Well, at least I'm on the list and not working the door. Blair: I was thinking '80s, but shoulder pads can be overwhelming on my delicate frame. 2. Do you prefer wholesome Jenny or Jenny the bitchy sellout? It's a toss up. I prefer wholesome Jenny. I will have to agree with Dandy...they put so much makeup on her. She looks so gothic. I hate it. However, even though I prefer the wholesome Jenny...I am liking the drama bitchy Jenny is causing. It's immature drama that's needed especially with everyone else's serious storylines. 3. Did you miss V? Absolutely not. Any episode without her in it...is a good episode. 4. How long will Dan make Olivia levitate ... if you know what we mean! A couple more episodes. I mean...she is already lying to him. 5. Biggest plot hole of the night: Serena getting mad at Blair when plan ended up getting her clients good PR, Blair involving Jack in any way, or Chuck's decision to have his own club raided? Serena getting mad at Blair. It just looked like the writers forced a conflict between Serena and Blair. Serena did pick Chuck over Blair for really no reason. She even stated she was staying with Chuck almost confirming that she was choosing him because if it was because of her job then she would have said that. All three plot lines seemed far fetched though. BONUS QUESTION: Next week's promo promises scandal, backstabbing, lip service, deceit and mud-slinging. Share your predictions. Looks good. I have no idea what's going to happen.
1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from the episode?
I personally think Blair was the quote queen of this epsisode, I enjoyed, as I always do, her witty and biting remarks with pleasure they deserve. One of the best ones was at the beginning of the episode when she told chuck "either make me kiss a girl or forgive me." something along these lines. Because I could totally see her doing it just because she loves Chuck that much. 2. Do you prefer wholesome Jenny or Jenny the bitchy sellout?
She went from being a flat uninteresting chick from Brooklyn who was kinda bitchy who wanted to be like every other chick in New York City, a fashion designer... to Bitch on Wheels who is totally flat and can't seem to keep her minions in line. I vote third option. NO JENNY! 3. Did you miss V?
As much as I miss having pnuemonia twice in the same year, both of which were hospitalization visits.....you do the math. 4. How long will Dan make Olivia levitate ... if you know what we mean!
She is obviously a decent actress or else she still wouldn't be getting parts, so there is no logical way to attest that he may even make her levitate at all. 5. Biggest plot hole of the night: Serena getting mad at Blair when plan ended up getting her clients good PR, Blair involving Jack in any way, or Chuck's choice to have his own club raided?
Serena getting mad that Blair's plan worked not only to make Chuck's hotel and club a huge success, but her clients getting good publicity. YOU'RE A PUBLICIST now Serena, since you wanted to grow up on us. That's what you want to get your clients. Blair helped everyone. Because she is amazing. Calling Jack to get a liscence I could see and it's something I wouldn't put past Jack to bring in a fake, and the whole having the place raided for the sake of publicity actually makes sense to me. Serena being an unreasonable grown-up figure now though was a different story. BONUS QUESTION: Next week's promo promises scandal, backstabbing, lip service, deceit and mud-slinging. Share your predictions.
Well first of all, I'm predicting that the outcome of the election that will be held is going to either bring a new character in or fade some old stuff out. Obviously, the "my gun is bigger than your gun" game started again with Blair and Serena and there's a fight over that with it going to extremes. We're probably gonna see Nate be a whiny little Witch with a B in the corner. Chuck is just gonna be that awesome and nothing about the rest of 'em yet, bu they'll come around soon enough.
Gossip Girl Season 3 Episode 7 Quotes
Nate: I'm surprised Blair's not here. Are you guys in another fight?
Chuck: A fight implies time and energy. This is more of an ongoing, detached distrust.
Eric: She's still the same Jenny underneath. She just has to wear the mask for school.
Jonathan: That mask is becoming her face.
