The Vampire Diaries was originally scheduled to come back with new episodes on January 14.

However, the return date has been pushed back to January 21. That's the bad news.

The good news, at least, is that The CW has released a new promo for the second half of season one that teases more twists, turns and suspense than ever before. No major Vampire Diaries spoilers are revealed, but the following trailer depicts:

• Bonnie inside a tomb;
• Damon making snarky comments;
• More flashbacks to the 19th century;
• And Elena asking Stefan the question on all our minds: Why does she resemble Katherine?
