Last week's episode of Damages was an unusual one for the FX drama.

There were no flashbacks or flash forwards.

Instead, there was simply an intense focus on Ellen's family life, Joe Tobin's ethical stuggle and the chess match between Patty and Martin Short's Leonard Winstone. It was great stuff.
