Private Practice Review: "Fear of Flying"

by at . Comments

There was a lot going on last night on Private Practice, both in terms of patient stories and character drama. While tough to follow at times, it certainly didn't lack for drama.

"Fear of Flying" gets underway with Addison's pregnant patient, Elisha, who's about to marry her boyfriend, Esau, a Kenyan who needs a physical to get his visa renewed.

However, Sam finds he has tuberculosis - untreatable - and he is quarantined. The couple decides to make a run for it, but ultimately comes back when she goes into labor.

Immigration shows up to take him away, and it's very sad. Sam pretends he's sick long enough for him to see his baby, who will have to remain in the U.S. for treatment.

Meanwhile, Sam is apparently good with Addison and Pete now. The reason for that? New girlfriend Vanessa. Even though he thinks about Addison while he's with Vanessa.

Does this strike anyone else as a little hard to believe? Would Addison and Pete really cry in each other's arms, longing for other people ... while hooking up themselves?

It's a tad weird.

Naomi and Her Boss

Naomi's smack in the middle of the latest Private Practice love triangle.

Elsewhere on the Pete front, he treats a couple who find out she's allergic to his sperm. Really. Man, just when you thought you'd seem every crazy sexual problem on this show.

After they try condoms and she almost dies, Pete encourages them to break up, but has a change of heart when he realizes just how in love with each other they are. Touching.

Naomi, meanwhile, is going on a date with her boss, William, until Fife says he loves her. He just comes out and says it, a bold move, but albeit maybe presumptuous. Whatever.

Addison, on the advice-giving outside looking in on the love triangle for once, thinks Nae likes Fife more than she lets on. Which she admits ... but goes out with William anyway.

Follow the jump for our take on the rest of the night's drama ...

With Violet having run off to Costa Rica (when do you think she'll be back, if at all?) Sheldon deals with her patient, a girl afraid flying after being in a plane crash (hence the title).

While Sheldon does a nice job and convinces her to fly to her sister's wedding in the end, the thing's in California. Sure, San Francisco is a long drive, but it can be done. Whatever.

Finally we have Cooper, back from Central America and visiting Violet, and with a renewed outlook. He's not angry anymore, he swears, but Charlotte still is. Someone had to be.

Now comes the kicker. After helping Sheldon with his patient, Charlotte and he sleep together on her couch! Just as Cooper comes over to get Violet's mail! Talk about awkward!

Seriously, we're all for interoffice romance, but these people all get around more than on Grey's Anatomy at this point. Are they just throwing darts at Private Practice cast photos?

Oh, who are we kidding. As long as you accept this semi-incestuous, sexual merry-go-round for what it is and just embrace it, things can be pretty darn entertaining. Are we right?

Addison and Sam are so gonna happen. It's been building all season. Shonda loves the pairing and won't waste the opportunity to pair Kate and Taye onscreen. As Shonda said on Twitter "Delicious"

I want Charlotte and Cooper together. I really enjoyed them. The show is not the same with them broke up I really don't look foward to watching it right now. It really breaks my heart to see them this way

I have to say that this whole Addison trying to take Violet's place thing, is a little to Single White Female for me. The storyline is both stupid and a little creepy. Not to mention, Pete doesn't love her, and she doesn't love him (Part of the story's stupidity). The more this story drags on, the further Pete/Addison fans will have to fall (Well, how many are acutally left?), when Violet is better. Which yes, I agree seems like it will be soon. It seems clear that Addison will end up with Sam, and Pete will end up with Violet (Especially since those two share a baby). Which is good, because those couples are good together.

Doesn't matter how much Addison loves Lucas, he's not her son. She better get over that fast.

It will be a sad day for Addison when Violet comes back...I can't wait! Not for Addison to be sad, but for Violet to FINALLY be where she belongs! With Pete and Lucas! And for Violet to finally be happy!

Addison might fall in love with Lucas, but he's Violet's. And Violet will heal, and judging by Amy Brenneman's twitter, it might be soon. When Pete sees Violet with Lucas, he'll forget all about Addison. Violet and Lucas have a bond, even though she has been away. I think Violet coming back, is what will push Addison to fight for Sam. She'll know what she wants.

I think Sam and Addison will be together eventually. But with Pete and Addison...I don't think it's forced at all. I think that when people are in love with someone they cannot have (as Pete is with Violet and Addison is with Sam), they turn to someone else to numb the pain. The only difference with Addison and Pete is that they both know they are being used to help each other through the pain. Plus he's always been her shoulder to cry on, so it doesn't seem weird. The thing that worries me is that Addison is absolutely going to fall in love with Lucas...

I agree with Nicole, i believe these couples will be together in the end, but it will probably take some time.

I want Sam and Addison together, Pete and Violet together and Charlotte and Cooper too. Even Though it will prob not work out like that completely.

Ick to Addison and Pete. It's so true! They totally seem forced. There is not any chemistry between them, it's painful to watch. Pete and Violet bring the chemistry! Oh my...great pairing those two. I agree with the others, they belong together! They better get back together soon!
