The Simpsons Review: "Stealing First Base"
Eric Hochberger at .This week's episode of The Simpsons was all about the kids and that's a nice change when the show usually revolves around Homer. This week the two stories were given to Bart and Lisa, with Homer and Marge only being minor supporting characters.
Bart's title storyline of "Stealing First Base" was a commentary on our over-litigious society that blew Bart's "stolen" kiss with Nikki (voiced by our crush Sarah Silverman) way out of proportion.
Maybe it's because we're still on our first cup of coffee or our memory doesn't serve us right, but we're pretty sure this is the first time The Simpsons have covered this issue at the school. Maybe it's because the ever-amazing Lionel Hutz was retired years ago.
Either way, the plot line was decent enough and served for plenty of laugh-out-loud moments and featured a really fun skateboarding montage that only the newly computer-generated animation could have done justice for.
The second story about Lisa was really just a weak excuse to bring the First Lady, Michelle Obama (voiced by Angela Bassett) on the show. Surprisingly? We were okay with it.
While her appearance itself was little more than yet another attempt to kiss up to her, it did provide a few solid "political" jokes including "he's our Joe Biden" and making fun of the obsession with Michelle's arms. Yeah, we're on a first name basis.
Really though, how could we not give a good review to an episode with two incredible sets of Ralph Wiggum quotes? Or a mockery of the new 3-D obsession using a Koyaanisqatsi-esque Itchy & Scratchy movie?
We were definitely fans of the episode, how about you guys? Be sure and comment after our favorite Simpsons quotes beyond the jump.
Ralph: I cheated wrong. I copied the Lisa name and used the Ralph answers. | permalink
Superintendent Chalmers: By now you've haard that one of our fourth graders did something that 100 years ago would have been completely innocent but in today's over litigious society has been blown completely out of proportion. | permalink
Michelle Obama: That's right, Lisa, as an avid organic gardner I've read your blog.
Lisa: Flotus1 is First Lady of the United States, one.
Michelle Obama: Yes, I wanted just flotus, but someone had it.
