90210 Season Finale Review: Confessions, Fire... and Rape?!?

at . Comments

Over the last few weeks, many 90210 fans have grown disenchanted with a show whose storylines muddle along, always focusing on relationships that aren't grounded in any kind of realism or pacing.

So, did the season finale change that point of view? Did "Confessions" leave you yearning for the September premiere to arrive ASAP? Let's analyze the state of various characters and gauge reader opinion...

Dixon and Ivy: These two remain cute together, but my head is spinning trying to keep up with the state of their relationship. Last week, they started the episode as a couple. They, they broke up over an Australian trip. Then, they made up. Then, Dixon confessed that he kissed Silver. So they split again. Then, he apologized (in grand fashion!) and now they are together... again. That's A LOT of back-and-forth over the course of two weeks.

Let's hope 90210 just keeps this pair together and let's viewers actually form an opinion on Divy (or Ixon?).

Teddy and Silver: Snoooooze. These two also broke up and got back together about 17 times in the last couple episodes. There's no chemistry between the actors, there's no reason for us to really believe they're in love. Seriously, can anyone say they care about Seddy (or Tilver?).

Seeking Comfort

Adrianna and Navid: They are back together. Yay! And the reunion was live, for all to see on their West Beverly TV screens. Romantic! But Javier is apparently gonna stick around and try and woo Ade. Boo! Please, 90210, just let a couple remain happy and steady. Is your only source for storyline tension to continually place pairings in jeopardy?

Jasper: Seriously, if he's on the show still next season, we may abandon ship.

Ryan: I really hope the show does give him more room to shine in the fall. All we've really seen of his downfall is Laurel offering Ryan some pot, and that caused him to fall off the wagon. But Ryan Eggold is a quality actor and a custody battle with Jen would provide him with solid material.

Annie: Is her hit-and-run sob story finally over? This never found momentum, as the show would focus on her pain/nightmares one week, only to seemingly forget about them until it was convenient some other week. I'm sorry to say, but Shenae Grimes is a horrific actress, especially when she tries to cry or be serious. Let's hope her confession frees her from this burden and Annie smiles a lot more next season.

Liam: The previews for this episode teased an actual explosion and a few lives in the balance. So I was disappointed to see that no one was on the boat when it was set on fire. But I cheered Liam's every punch across Jasper's face. I've said it for weeks: make him a bad boy again!

Naomi: I'm torn on this cliffhanger of a conclusion. On one hand, fans have begged the show to depict a storyline that's actually engrossing and suspenseful. Rape would definitely qualify. On the other hand... rape?!? That's very sticky territory for a show to enter. There aren't more sensitive issues out there. It's ironic that a series often criticized for boring angles would jump straight ahead and take on the most gruesome crime there is, really.

I'll reserve judgment until we see how 90210 handles this in the fall. But was it enough to hold your attention until then? What did you think of the season finale as a whole?

Debate it now and check out the following quotes from the episode:

Debbie: You don't have a job, we don't have savings. And we don't love each other anymore. | permalink
Ivy: You're crazy, Dixon.
Dixon: Crazy about you. | permalink
Jen: My baby doesn't need a public school teacher as a father. | permalink
Ivy: I don't need to play second fiddle to another girl anymore. I've gone on that ride and I'm done. | permalink
Naomi: When is Obama gonna outlaw gym class? Guantanamo Bay? That's great. But phys ed? Seriously. | permalink

i can't believe noone like Teddy and Silver, i love them! Oh my god... how did everyone find out that Annie didn't actually kill Jasper's uncle?!!! That would be such a great story-line if it was to turn out that Liam killed him! But I love Liam! I don't want him to be put in prison or anything! Also, i love Principle Harry Wilson!!! Can't believe he's leaving/ left, he's such a brilliant actor and so amazingly sexy!! I also love Dixon and Ryan Matthews! Cannon's quite sexy too! I loved the cliffhanger, 'twas so tension building and brilliant!! But why was they're only 22 episodes??! Also... where the hell did Ethan go?!?!?!?! I love Ethan!!!! & what happened to the supposid brother Annie and Naomi were supposed to have??! Guess they'll leave that as Rob's leaving... I love 90210 so muchh!!!! I watch it every week without fail, even when I was stuck on holiday due to the volcano!!!! CANNOT WAIT FOR SERIES 3! xx

i cant believe the ending i feel so sorry for liam he spent ages on the boat and it looked great but jasper is a git for setting it on fire LUV 90210

Another point, Teddy's car did pull up afterwards so maybe it was just that? He could of committed the crime, turned round then felt guilty and come back, but seen Annie's car infront? Had a slight suspicion it could be Liam?!
Everyone says he's had a rapid change in behaviour throughout the series, which he has. This could be the explaination?
Could be the cause of the whole making of the boat ;)
And the fact that with Naomi's small lies he ends everything, but with Annie's lie for all this time about murdering someone he just hugs her and that's it, could possibly suggest it's because he knows she didn't kill him and that he did it? SOME MORE POSSIBILITIES I'M THINKING ABOUT ! HAHA

I think it's gonna be bad for Naomi, the only person who saw them together and saw that pedo teacher closing the blinds was Ryan Matthews, who was pissed out his face and personally, i think he dies! I read a spoiler that someone dies at the end of this series who's been in it from the beginning. And when no one died I was like huh? But when he drove off in his car petrol was leaking out the back and it was on fire, surely that'd blow the car up and kill him? So I thought maybe he's the character who supposedly dies at the end of this series? He has been in it from the first episode - JUST A THOUGHT :P Also, I can't believe Annie didn't actually kill Jasper's uncle. I have no idea who did, on another website someone had suspicions it was Teddy as it'd shown something to do with his car? And she'd given a link as "a source" and someone had commented underneith saying "OMG I AGREE ITS 100% GOTTA BE HIM!" so i was like omg!? But the link didn't work for me?! Anyway, here it is... http://www.tudou.com/playlist/... I'm trying to remember back to the end of the last series but I can't remember anything, Might watch that episode again and look out for clues of who really killed Jasper's uncle! My feelings on the couples :) Ivy and Dixon = Not as cute as Dixon and Silver were, don't seem to suit much, but Dixon is a sweet guy and I much prefer Ivy with him than when she was obsessing over Liam. Liam and Naomi = I really liked them at first, wish they'd of worked it out. But they hadn't shown any chemistry recently. Liam and Annie = They're definately going to get it on, not really bothered. I love Liam, Annie annoys me a bit. She acts so innocent? And it's ironic how at the end of the last series Naomi thought she had tried taking Liam off her by sleeping with him, but it wasn't true and Annie acted so hurt as if she'd never do a thing. Yet this series she's practically done that. If Liam hadn't of got so close to Annie maybe Liam and Naomi would of been ok. Annie and Naomi are back as good friends now, would you go round to your best friend's boyfriend's house?! To talk about your feelings and comfort eachother... It's just weird and it was so obviously Annie was trying to get in all innocently which annoyed me. But they do seem to have chemistry. Don't like her acting though. Silver and Teddy = Don't really care either way anymore, boring me a bit. Adiranna and Navid = The best couple ever, so glad they are back together they have so much chemistry :) Hope that other guy pisses off so they can work it out this time!

It certainly kept me riveted by the end! I have to admit, the pace was rubbish to begin with. Generally the story lines on 90210 are completely unbelievable, but I think that that is why people like it. It's a bit of sun-drenched lightheartedness.
Liam and Annie ought to have had a little bit more of a cliffhanger- I don't know, possibly something should have almost been said?
Jasper seems to be growing more and more pathetic as the show progresses, and I certainly won't miss him if we don't see him next series. His story line does seem to be a bit drawn out.
Silver and Teddy are just annoying me- and I feel that Silver has apologised WAY too much these last 5 eps or so. Might as well stop throwing this short lived and fairly anticlimatic conflict in their relationship now!
Dixon and Ivy is just ew for some reason- I don't know why, but they just don't suit.
Navid and Aid was waaay too fast- talk about rushing it. There should have been slightly more of a build up. Naomi getting raped? I don't think 90210 is hardcore enough to deal with those kinds of serious issues. I don't think it'll happen.

Omy i literally cant wait for season3!!I cant beliave that teacher is going to actually rape her.I mean at first helooks like a good man but then he turns out to be a pedo..i hope he doesnt get away with this!
And he has a wife!!
i know naomi done some preety bad stuff to him but iactually think the storywriters went abit too far..well at least they gotta keep us watchingg..xx Love 90210!!

I thought the finale was amazing. the twist with naomi and the teacher. and everything was pefect. the writers know what they're doing you idiots. let them write. obviously they're keeping you watching. i think everything played out perfectly. it's how a TV SHOW DRAMA should be. we all know what 90210 is supposed to be like. and they're doing it exactly like that. BTW: For the stupid person who said the thing about them being too glam and high heels? THEY LIVE IN BEV HILLS. It's the point of the story that they're all stuck up rich kids. Great ending. Can't wait for it to come on again!

sooo sad what is happening to Debbie and Harry! They were my favorite couple in the show. Their relationship seemed so strong. And it really sucks, that they are falling apart like that... They were great in this episode! really heartbreaking!!!they could have been the next Sandy and Kirsten (The OC)...SO SAD!

I loved it, it was not a bad season finale at all! Liam and Annie should have had sex, and possibly another few insane suprising moments should have been in store, but overall it was well done. BUT WRITERS, WHAT HAPPENED TO KELLY? DID YOU THINK WE'D FORGET & NOT REALIZE THAT SHE NEVER LEFT YOU JUST STOPPED USING HER?

Disappointing finale!!! Writers, take a look at what Gossip Girl did and learn!!!!! Like others already commented... the Naomi story??? Not likely!!! Naomi is no pushover, being cry wolf girl would not stop her to unmask a bad guy, and PLEASE that guy can't be a bad guy!! He's not interesting enough to keep in the series!! Liam and Annie - just get them together already!!! it's the only believable love story in the series!! Didn't know that Annie would find out she didn't kill that guy, that's probably just because too many people complained the story is too brutal, that they had to fix the story. People will stop watching the series if it continues like this! Just read all the comments!! Shocking the audience does not mean GOOD WRITING!!!

Jen is hardly human. Who would have thought she could reproduce?
