Grey's Anatomy Review: "Shiny Happy People"

at . Comments

Next week marks the season finale of our beloved Grey's Anatomy. For whatever reason this reminds us of a cheesy one liner - we hate to see you leave, but we love to watch you go!

We wouldn't go as far as saying we felt that this week's episode, "Shiny Happy People" was a filler, but it really did put the 60 minute show to good use to tie up some loose ends.

One of our favorite loose ends happened to be Miranda and Ben's blossoming relationship. When Ben interrupted Bailey and said:

Ben: Now woman, I am naked and I look good. Are you going to sit there and lecture me or are you going to let me take you into my bedroom and have my way with you. | permalink

We got to admit he had our hearts pounding!

Ben definitely is the type of man Miranda needs in her life. He is able to stand up to her and will not take any of her nonsense lying down quietly. He made it crystal clear to her and the rest of us that he is not looking to play games and is in it for the long hull. We really heart him and the beginning of what looks like the relationship we always wanted for Miranda.

A Bailey Smile

Meredith was the one person in the most difficult place last night because she finally had to admit to herself and Cristina that it just isn't the two of them anymore.

She is married to Derek and her loyalties have to lye with him. Thankfully, Meredith did get herself involved a bit when she gave Owen a piece of her mind. We were worried that Cristina wouldn't find out the truth - and we were shocked that Teddy heard the whole conversation!

What do you think Owen means when he said he isn't sure about his feelings for Teddy? We feel like something will definitely happen in the season finale that will make his choice clear on who he cares about most.

Oh Lexie! What to do! What to do! When Mark gave his speech to Lexie it only left us more confused!

We really do like Alex and Lexie together, but Mark is in LOVE with Lexie and pretty much proposed to her in a way. It definitely was no post-it, but it was something!

We wonder if Shonda purposely had Alex seem more confused this week. Why else would Alex be calling himself a duck one week, but kissing Lexie so passionately the week before?

Who do you want Lexie to end up with? Do you think Mark's feelings for Lexie are as genuine as they seem or do you think it is more about wanting what you can't have?

Alex and His New Patient

We enjoyed Demi Lovato's character and her storyline because it involved Alex asking Lexie - the computer brain - for help. It's always nice to have a case that seems unsolvable and then our beloved doctors come to save the day!

The passionate kiss that Callie and Arizona shared in the elevator only means one thing: Whatever feelings they have for each other are still burning strong!

We still don't see how they are going to overcome their problem. We feel neither one should have to budge from their ground. We can't wait to see where their story goes!

We all know what is looming next week and for some reason we still feel creepy April will be involved. It is too obvious for Shonda to have Mr. Clark be the killer. He may have the biggest reason to want to kill Derek, but seeing that Meredith is pregnant (yeah, we called it!) could throw April off the deep end...just saying!

Until the much anticipated two-hour long season finale next week we leave you with a few of our favorite Grey's Anatomy quotes after the jump!

Mark: Lex - I'm still in love with you. I tried not be, but it didn't work. And Sloane's gone, there is no baby, and I don't want to sleep around. I want another chance. I'm in love with you.
Lexie: Karev, he's...Mark, I have a boyfriend.
Mark: I know. All I'm saying is that you could have a husband. | permalink
Meredith: Ask most people what they want out of life and the answer is simple - to be happy. Maybe it's this expectation though of wanting to be happy that just keeps us from ever getting there. Maybe the more we try to will ourselves to state's of bliss, the more confused we get - to the point where we don't recognize ourselves. Instead we just keep smiling - trying to be the happy people we wish we were. Until it eventually hits us, it's been there all along. Not in our dreams or our hopes but in the known, the comfortable, the familiar. | permalink
Callie: You don't want fifty years to go by and realize that you let the love of your life get away. So go - try! | permalink
Meredith: You have to understand that it's been just you and me for a long time, now its me and Derek. And it's you and me. I told you what I said this morning because it's you and me, but I can't tell you anymore because it's me and Derek.
Cristina: Fine I get it, but I need you to understand that I need there to be a me and Owen. | permalink
Alex: It's like the computer froze! | permalink
Lexie: The point is - I need to know what we are. What this is.
Alex: We're a thing, yeah we're together. We're a thing. Whatever. | permalink
Richard: A happy patient is a healthy patient Yang. | permalink
Meredith: It's a common belief that positive thinking leads to a happier healthier life. As children we are told to smile, be cheerful, and put on a happy face. As adults we are told to look on the bright side, to make lemonade, and see glasses as half full. Sometimes reality can get in the way of our ability to act the happy part though. Youre hope can fail, boyfriends can cheat, friends can disappoint. It's in these moments, when you just want to get real, drop the act, and be your true scared unhappy self. | permalink
Owen: Lets move in together. Good, you cant answer. That's good I don't want you to, I ran it past my shrink and she thinks it's a good idea. So think about it. Me, you, our own place.
Cristina: Yes.
Owen: What! Yes?
Cristina: Yes, but I need to warn you that this is my fourth martini and my judgment is severely impaired. Also, I'm a real easy lay right now. | permalink
Meredith: At my parties we drink beer and dance on tables.
Derek: Are you insulting my party?
Meredith: It is getting kinda lame out there.
Derek: Duty calls. | permalink

word sophie on what you said
but honestly to me in his relationships Alex is putting himself out there and making himself vulnerable which is new to him. I just have a feeling that if Lexie rejects him for Mark he will be hurt in some way and I don't want to see that. Going into a possible relationship this quickly is what has turned me off of Alex/Lexie but they do have potential (if the writers had just waited a little longer into S7 I would honestly grow to like them) Alex and Lexie will NEVER be an epic couple those honors go to Alex/Izzie :'( and Mer/Der

I love Justin Chambers. I think Alex is such a complex character and I genuinely like him. But I don't think Alex and Lexie are the new epic couple. Mark and Lexie, that's where it's really at. They are real. Lexie is just trying to prove she can move on. Both Alex and Lexie are. And people think Alex is going to get hurt if Lexie doesn't choose him (which we don't even know yet who she chooses, I'm hopeful for Mark, but with Shonda you never know) but he won't be hurt. Yeah he'll be sad and disappointed, but hurt, no. He sees Lexie as the "normal" chick. She's his way of testing the water. As he said, he's a duck. He doesn't know if he likes her, but he'll give it a try what he's saying. Furthermore, I wouldn't understand why Lexie would choose someone who "might" like her over someone who's "in love" with her. I guess if she's looking for different things I could understand...but come on now. And lastly, people are at different places in life all the time. It doesn't mean they shouldn't be together. I know a lot of people who are at different places in their lives, but it's about compromise. It's about knowing that if you loved someone enough, you could survive anything...even if that survival rate is only 3%, you fight like hell to keep it alive. That's what it's about. If it's worth having, it's worth fighting for.

Does anyone knows when Alex contract expires? Someone mentioned he is not seen in the episode and since SR always throws us a curve I am afraid Lexie is pregnant with Alex baby, he gets shot and dies and Mark has the "family" he wanted... I love the fact that Mark proposed but I dont think she will go that easy. Either something happens to Alex or Alex do the noble thing and notices she loves Mark and steps away. I have my doubts that Mer is the pregnant one as like I say the promos are never what they seem and this is too in our faces. Also Mer terrifying look in the promo makes me cry as I think it might be because of Derek. Can't wait for the finale and for the new season to start.

Alex has made his bed as far as his bad luck with women. He has not been the stellar mate. I have to say though that I do like how his character has grown. He doesn't truly love Lexie and Mark does. I think Lexie deserves the man who truly loves her, not one who is settling or just acting like a duck. That's not fair to either one of them.

I don't really even like Alex and Lexie together. But I just can't stand for Alex to be left behind AGAIN. That's why I need them together. And I was SO surprised by how sad that kiss in the elevator made me. I didn't think I cared about Callie and Arizona that much. Boy was I wrong.

The last 8 minutes were phenomenal!!! Literally. The elevator scene with Arizona and Callie just made my heart hurt, you could just feel the pain in their passion. And when Mark said the last line to Lexie, as much as I didn't like them together, I was crying!! I cannot wait til next week....

I am so hoping Mark and Lexie are put back together. I don't like the Alex/Lexie storyline at all. I actually almost stopped watching when Mark and Lexie were being separated more. I hope it is not Lexie who is pregnant or could it be Cristina? I wouldn't be surprised if was Meredith is the pregnant one, but it would odd to pulling it out of a wrapper if it was your own test. It is probably about time for the Meredith baby storyline anyway.

People.....mer is not pregnant! I believe lexie is pregnant and mer see her test and cris say "congratulations" for other reason....

Reed's pick-up line to Mark Sloan at the beginning of the show was RIDICULOUS; "The work you did with Dr. Shepherd on that acoustic neuroma was incredible." I have an acoustic neuroma and there is definitely NO NEED for a plastic surgeon in that sort of surgery (although I certainly wish my brain surgeon were as yummy as Derek!!!) I thought that the writing staff vetted there medicalbabble before it ends up on television. That was just plain sloppy. Disappointed...

I really liked this episode!!! I want Lexie to be with Mark so bad, but I hope that happens without Alex getting hurt!
The last scene with Cristina and Meredith made me cry. I hate Owen, and I felt so sorry for Cristina. I love her. and my favorite quote of the episode was Meredith's quote about happiness and how sometimes we feel like we want to drop everything and be our scared, unhappy selves.
