House Review: Holy Huddy!

at . Comments

I'm in pain... every day. It changed me. Made me a harder person. A worse person. I'm alone. You don't want to be like me.

It was the final sentence in this speech from House to Hannah that stuck out the most on last night's season finale. You don't want to be like me. For years, House has been a miserable genius, but he's always thought he was special.

Unhappy? Of course. But House has never been one to mistake happiness with respect. He's always respected his own mind, ability to reason and his lack of BS.

But after Cuddy's cutting diatribe on "Help Me," (You're gonna risk her life just to save her leg? Really worked out well for you, didn't it?), House finally realized: his whole life is BS. He's miserable and alone, no matter how he tries to analyze it.

This vulnerability didn't just guarantee Hugh Laurie an Emmy, it made Huddy fans around the globe celebrate.

At the Accident Site

The 180 by Cuddy did seem to come out of nowhere, as she went from engaged to Lucas to opening up about love for House in about 45 minutes.

But this romance has also been teased for many seasons, of course, and House's speech to Hannah left me shocked and speechless. Who's to say it wouldn't have done the same for Cuddy and naturally led her to this decision?

I'm glad she made it, that's for sure. There's only so many times House can come close to putting these two together and only so many times House can be a junky of a doctor. Put him and Cuddy together, make him sober and let's see what happens next season.

House is often a show that relies on humor, but last night was all about raw emotion. Kudos to the director and the team that made certain creative decisions:

They actually showed us a lot of the leg amputation; they didn't score much of the subsequent scene where Hannah was pulled out of the rubble; or the scene in the ambulance, where we heard her labored breathing over all else as she passed away.

It was a tense hour, from start to end, and it made the show a lot more than the buddy bromance it can often be between House and Wilson. That's fine for an episode or two, but House is a drama. With a screwed up character (the most screwed up in the world, House admitted about himself) at the center.

That was the focus of the season finale and it was executed perfectly.

The episode does lost a couple points for the random inclusion of Thirteen's storyline. We're sorry her Huntington's has flared up and all, but it was difficult to care much about this development with everything else going on.

What did you think of the finale? Enjoy a few House quotes from it below:

Dr. Cuddy: I know. I love you. I wish I didn't. But I can't help it. | permalink
Dr. Cuddy: I'm stuck, House. I keep wanting to move forward. I keep wanting to move on, and I can't. I mean, my new house, with my new fiance, and all I can think about is you. I just need to know if you and I can work. | permalink
Dr. Cuddy: What are you clinging to, House? You're gonna risk her life just to save her leg? Really worked out well for you, didn't it? What do you have in your life, honestly? Tell me. I'm moving on. Wilson is moving on. And you... you've got nothing, House. Nothing. | permalink
Hanna: You think we could be friends when I get outta here?
House: Sure. We'll catch a ball game or... group sex show or something. | permalink
Hanna: I always thought... if I did the right thing, if I treated people right, then good things would happen to me. You think that's how it works?
House: I didn't use to. Then recently I tried... now I don't know. | permalink
House: I'm the most screwed up person in the world. | permalink

I absolutely LOVED the finale!!! It was about time they gave House and Cuddy a chance and I believe it was beautifully made with the final scene last night!!! kudos to whoever wrote it and whoever thought it, and most of all KUDOS to HL LE AND GY!!! Now they have given me a great reason to tune in next year, after half a season of partial absence!!!

@the sis: Yes, intelligence insulted. There's no way a television show does hallucinations for the same exact thing on back-to-back seasons. That would murder all viewers' faith in the show and everyone would stop watching because nothing would be real. It would be the ultimate cop-out. Trust me: this was NOT a hallucination.

Wow, so looking forward to next season.

M.L. House.. you make me happy when you say that. but you obviously are much more savvy about this than I, actually this is my first post on anything House.. so please please tell me..
why .. why do you say .. the show would be over..
I think real House obsessives.. such as myself well see I wouldnt stop watching..
Please inform me .. yikesss.. why would they stop watching..
intelligence insulted? something like that..

I can absolutely assure you it's not a hallucination. All fans would revolt and the show would be over after one episode next season if that were the case.

I am left wondering whether this was indeed, another hallucination, wherin House will wake up in the hospital beginning Season 11 in a coma, when the crash occured when they were trying to get the woman out , they could very well have House
