The Mentalist Review: "Red Letter"

at . Comments

Since we only have one more episode left until the season is over - we are a little surprised and disappointed that the writers would leave Red John out basically the entire season!

"Red Letter" did not get us any closer into finding out who Red John is and what he wants - and we know we don't stand alone in wanting more! This mysterious psycho/serial killer is what sets The Mentalist apart from other crime scene shows and one of the main reasons why we love it! So our question is why?

Nothing like a good cup of joe

This week we definitely could have gone for something that teased us about Red John, but there wasn't even a mention of him. From the previews, we know that finally we will get a meeting with him, but what gives!?

Other then being annoyed by how this ended played out, we were a bit confused why Russell would pretend that Hector slept with his own daughter! That is just gross and couldn't he just as easily blackmailed Hector with any old prostitute action? Why did he have to take the incestuous route?

Jane's love connected?

Bringing Kristina again in as a romantic interest for Jane was interesting, but we still like the idea of having Jane and Lisbon hook up. What do you think? Are you team Kristina or team Lisbon?

All in all we weren't too impressed with this week's episode and if anything we confused by the new character's involvement - mainly the leader of the coalition. He was a bad guy, yet Jane knew in a moment that he wasn't the killer. Very strange.

If anything, we've been looking forward to this year's season finale ALL season long!

What did you think of last night's episode? Did you love it or were you also bored/confused by it? Leave your thoughts below!

THis show sucks

I Hate kristina she sucks, i like jane riding solo. wtf im team nobody i dont want jane getting involved in lurve i like that all of u agree with me, i want her killed by red john.....or is she red john?

I don't like Kristina either...but I'll be darned if I let that psycho ***** keep me from seeing Simon Baker every week! I think there's something sinister about her underneath, and it'll be great watching Patrick discover it. After all, he had a thing for that "psycho mom" during the first who turned out to be a money-grubbing shrew who just wanted money, or diamonds as the case may be. And I agree with Julie BTW.

Team Lisbon all the way!! Kristina Frye is a freak! Some of the best scenes in the show are between Jane an Lisbon.

Can I shoot for the question of who Red John is? Let me try; it is their former boss. What was his name? And I like this Red Letter episode, btw. Frye is a very lovely character, maybe her play from season.1 of 24 is shadowing my judgement, I dont know.

Why isn't Rigsby's character on the cast list?

Team Lisbon or Team Kristina? Seriously? Is that even a question? For clarity, Team Lisbon! Really the whole 'flirtaion' (if it can even be classified as such) was forced and vomit inducing. That one scene with Lisbon at the bar had more chemistry than an entire season of forced conversation between Kristina and Jane ever would (heaven forbid we would ever be put through that). I'm hoping that Krisina is a sacrificial lamb for Red John or gets so scared she runs far away, or Jane pushes her away after seeing that Red John will go after anyone he gets close to. It'll probably end up being the latter but honestly, as long as Kristina goes away and doesn't return until 2-3 seasons later, I think I can speak for most of the viewers when I say that would make us very, very happy.

wanna know Bruno and the other writers could see our comments. 100% agree with Alex!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Team Lisbon, no doubts! About Red Letter now.
Number one, this episode was terrible disappointing. Poor writing, the case was weak and the Jane/Frye thing was extremely awkward. I really didn’t buy it, they just tried to put it down our throats and want us to enjoy it. Too bad, coz I didn't. Number two, I don’t think is time to Jane to “move on yet, even with Lisbon, or at least they could gave us some hints before this episode, that’s was completely OCC for me. And the Hightower line was even more OCC. I almost doubt that was watching The Mentalist and that was Jane on the screen, it was like I was reading a poor fanfiction. And number three, I can’t stand Frye. I tried, I swear, but I failed so bad. Nothing against Leslie Hope, she’s good, but her character is just “urghhh. I hope they don’t bring her back next season or I’ll have to stop watching the show. The best thing in this episode so far was the Jane/Lisbon bar scene, it was incredible funny. I love the faces Lisbon makes, she’s awesome! And their interaction and chemistry is what makes the show so great for me, no reason to put this b****-psych to sour things between them. Anyway, this season was so great at the beginning, especially with Red Badge and His Red Right Hand, but is getting boring and silly. I don’t see any characters development for a long time and Jane seems to be the only “useful member of the team now, they’re shrinking the other characters that I love so much, as Lisbon and Cho. Months ago I was all for season two, but now I have to say that season one was way better. BTW, I still don’t like Hightower and can’t believe that the Bosco storyline is just over with no more explanations. Instead of bringing Frye for this silly and awkward romance stuff they should explain things, like what Bosco really said to Jane before he died. I hope the season finale will be great, even with Frye making it harder for me to watch. When the next season begins that will be just two options for me:
No more Frye or No more The Mentalist I so hope it’ll be the first one. I don’t wanna lose this show coz I used to love it, but they’re losing me already, unfortunately.

Team Lisbon all the way. I still can't believe what I saw. I didn't see any so called "romantic sparks" between Jane and Frye, yes I think he is intrigued by her but I can't see why he would date such a cold-hearted woman (in season 1 she admitted she slept with the spouse of her client because "it was fun", plus she earns money with lying to be a psychic- something I thought Jane totally hated). People who think Frye is good for Jane obviously neither understood Jane's character nor the whole show. Also I was confused with Hightower, seriously she's his boss. She shouldn't give him "dating advice", she doesn't even know Jane. It would have made more sense if someone of the team would have talked to him about that. And last but not least, I watch for the whole Jane/Lisbon interaction, I don't need them together but their banter is what makes the show enjoyable. The writers need to bring it back and stop hitting us over the head with the whole "He's ready to date" thing. Lisbon and Jane had so much more chemistry in the little bar scene than Jane and Frye had the entire episode.

The Mentalist Season 2 Episode 22 Quotes

Why don't we give them a little time to catch up. Sorry about the mom thing.

Sheriff: So you're the psychic -
Jane: No, there's no such thing of psychics.
