Paula Patton is coming to the small screen.

Best known as a movie actress, most recently having appeared in Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire, Patton will play a major role on Law & Order: SVU this fall.

Filling in for the departed Stephanie March, she'll portray Assistant District Attorney Mikka Von and will debut on the show's fifth episode of its new season.

"When I saw Paula Patton give that terrific performance in the multi-Oscar nominated Precious, I knew she'd be perfect for SVU's new Assistant District Attorney - she's funny, warm and witty with a penchant for justice," executive producer Neal Baer said in a statement.

Law & Order: SVU premieres its 12th season on September 22.
