Darren Criss on Glee Character: An "Out and Proud" Student

at .

When Glee returns with a new episode on November 9, viewers will meet Darren Criss. The actor debuts that week as Blaine, a student at a rival high school who will serve as a mentor to Kurt.

Of course, the world wants to know: will he also be a boyfriend to the lonely young Mr. Hummel?

In a new interview with E! News, Criss says he isn't being coy when he says he truly doesn't know the answer to that question. But he's very excited to talk about Blaine in general. Here's how the actor describes the character:

He's kind of an out-and-proud student... I really hope he ends up being a really positive role model and source of strength for a lot of people, gay or straight - for any teen, really.

[Blaine's] a guy that [has] seen some hardship and where we meet him he's a very strong, collected guy, and he's really analyzed the things that have happened to him and has defined himself because of those things and a lot of the struggle that other characters go through, he's found a way to empower himself through that. Having a character like that show up where we are in the show and where we are in our society is pretty cool.

Criss also confirms the student will sing and dance often, while admitting there's no set number of episodes in which he'll appear. Check out the full interview now:

I've got a full ride to a little school called the University of California in Los Angeles. Maybe you've heard of it. It's in Los Angeles.
