Desperate Housewives Review: A Look Inside Purses, Hearts

at .

On "The Thing That Counts is What's Inside," viewers got a glimpse at the real Gaby; i.e. the vain, selfish and spoiled Gaby that Carlos so endearingly recollected in the opening scene of the episode.

For an installment paralleled with purses - specifically Gaby’s Chanel fetish - we were witnesses not only what’s in a purse, but also what’s in the hearts of our lovable Wisteria Lane residents.

Lynette and Renee

There was the touching development of Lynette losing it in mom-ville, and then having a sweet heart to heart with her daughter who tried to raise the baby to help save mommy; Renee softening and giving up her man in order to avoid having Bree as an enemy; and Gaby sharing her material possessions with her sweet (biological) baby girl.

Speaking of sweet, the cheeky Susan demonstrated her uncanny ability to find a way to do something clumsy in every episode by tackling a billboard as it was being raised for all to see in Fairview.

But back to those Chanel bags. What kind of mother thinks it is okay, and admirable at that, to buy an eight-year-old girl a $1,400 designer bag?  What happened to American Girl dolls?  If only we all could have been so lucky.  Seems like the pocketbook of Carlos, the once-blind country club masseuse, has come a long way in the last few seasons.

The real question remains: Will the Solis family find a way to provide those fancy things to Grace in a more permanent manner?  I say yes, perhaps a sad ending for the other family will bring this little future model spit fire onto the Lane to share a bunk bed (or a princess canopy bed) with quasi sister Juanita.

Elsewhere, the tension with the prison wife, Beth, and her hubby on the block intensified as she realized Paul will indeed lie to her about his motives for buying back his old house. My original prediction may be in jeopardy after this scene – will Beth turn on Paul instead of the other way around?

The banter between the divorcees heated up this week, as well, with Grandma Bree and slutty Renee.  Renee’s girlish cries over a childhood fear of little people had me cracking up, especially as she climbed the wall of a restaurant so that his “little hands” didn’t get her.  Well done, Bree.  Attacking someone’s childhood trauma is always a winner.

Good thing Ms. Perry let Bree win. Otherwise, we’d expect a full-on circus carnival next week to really drive the latter's vivid circus trauma home.

Desperate Housewives Season 7 Episode 4 Quotes

Based on my dinner under the rainbow last night, I'd rather have you as a friend than an enemy.

Renee

There's this one thing that she did that was incredibly moving. She came up to me, and within two seconds of touching my bag, she knew it was expensive.
