Gossip Girl Round Table: "Touch of Eva"

by at . Comments

Welcome back, Upper East Siders, to another edition of TVF's Gossip Girl Round Table, where our panel reflects on the events of Monday's episode, "Touch of Eva."

Below, Gossip Guy and Mister Meester and critic-in-chief DANdy take on topics ranging from Danessa and Juliet's agenda to Eva's exit and the upcoming war ...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. What was your favorite Gossip Girl quote from last night?
Gossip Guy: Haha, Bassian bubble.
Mister Meester: The obvious: "So you did it just to hurt me. Eva made me into someone I was proud to be. You just brought back my worst self. This means war, Blair ... Me versus you. No limits." The less obvious: "You were just so easy in Paris." Too good.
DANdy: Serena turning Blair's name into a verb. Who among us hasn't been tempted to go off Blair Waldorfing at times?
2. Eva plot hole of the night: Dan finding out her past via Google search, B's quest to ruin Eva in the first place, or her splitting town after Chuck doubted her for 10 whole minutes?
Gossip Guy: Can we just declare the whole story like a hole and pretend like it never existed? At least it should lead to a fun war between Chair and the eventual reconciliation that any war between them will inevitably lead to.
Mister Meester: All of the above and more? First of all, Dan searches for Prague brothels just because, and Eva's real name and photo are on there? Just ridiculous. Slightly less absurd, but still problematic for me is this: Eva lied to Chuck and he repaid her with $5 million. He doubts her intentions for 10 minutes and she just bails? Iffy writing. Also, Chuck cavorts with hookers all the time! Why would he care if Eva worked in the world's oldest profession? Come on B.
DANdy: The Google search. Come on. We all know people in The CW universe only use Bing.
3. Would you have preferred Derena together, and will Danessa last?
Gossip Guy: Obviously I'd prefer anything that didn't end in 'essa, even that anything includes a mild case of incest.
Mister Meester: I may be in the minority in saying I think Dan and Vanessa are cute together, but I still think cooling it with co-habitation is smart. When you're calling your live-in girlfriend "mom," you're probably not ready for it. As for Derena, those two make out enough in real life as it is. Better to mix it up on the show with some new peeps.
DANdy: No and no. Dan needs to be single for awhile. Can he borrow your black book, Chuck? I'd like to see this confused fella drop the nicknames and enjoy time as Dan the Man for awhile.
Juliet Sharp
HIGH EXPECTATIONS: Katie Cassidy's guest role had better be worth it!
4. Seriously, what is Juliet's deal?
Gossip Guy: I don't know, but I really hope the Gossip Girl writers have a better plan for her than that Eva nonsense. I do not approve of bringing in someone as hot and scheming as Juliet to just let her fizzle out in a couple episodes.
Mister Meester: Based on Gossip Girl spoilers and previews for next week, My guess is she's behind the blast even Serena can't believe, and this is building toward an epic confrontation between Juliet and the entire gang. Something's gotta tie all of them together again, right? Eventually, it must. Here's hoping it's worth the wait.
DANdy: She seems like she was once well-off, perhaps residing in some sort of L.A.-based apartment complex with a pool and an influx of shady neighbors. But when that living situation vanished, she was forced to start over again in NYC.
5. As Chuck says, this is war. Who will win?
Gossip Guy: Now that we know Blair Waldorfing can be used as a verb, I'm pretty sure I can safely say that Chuck is going to get the Blair the hell Waldorfed out of him. Hmm, that didn't make sense...
Mister Meester: Chuck. He now hates Blair even more than himself. Not good.
DANdy: In a word: Viewers.
1. "This means war..." I've waited two years for that! The only thing better than Chair scheming against each other is Chair scheming with each other.
2. Dan finding out via Google. You can't blame her for bailing after 10 minutes - they're 19 years old for God's sake... reason isn't relevant in affairs of the heart.
3. Since I like Serena when she's on her own better, I'm going with Danessa... besides, if Vanessa has to be around, I want her annoying Dan the way she annoys me.
4. Who would Serena be without an adversary to rally against? It's never her fault! What other reason is necessary?
5. It will be a tie... Chuck already did his worst to Blair, so if he wins she'd never reconcile with him, and Blair can't win without truly stopping loving Chuck - and neither of those things can happen if "Chair is endgame", which is a foregone conclusion. My guess is in the end, something horrid will happen to Blair in the midst of their ongoing war, and Chuck will rescue her, realizing he cannot live without her. Or the show will jump the shark and the last episode will have Blair waking up and Chuck's in the shower and everything since Jack's betrayal was a dream LOL
@Iloveed Thank you for the good remark.
@Blairfan: Chuck did not fire his valet whithout reason - he knew it was him who gave the envelope with the passport to Blair.
1. Bassian bubble and Blair Waldorfing ;)
2. I'm confused about this question. Is it about naming the best or worst plot involving Eva? If it's the worst, then definetely her splitting town after Chuck doubted her. Like, really??? And even after getting an apologize?
3. No Derena, please. I love them together but I'm kinda tired of this on-off-on-again-off-again relationship. Let Serena be herself with somebody else. As for Danessa, god, I hope not.
4. Clearly, to destroy Serena. But as always Nate will save her, even if accidentally since Juliet is falling for him.
5. I love Blair, but I'm betting on Chuck. There's no question actually. While Blair was broken with Chuck's speech, he got home and fired Ivan with no reason. Need to say more? The good thing is that MAYBE when Chuck destroys Blair and realize she's been lying the whole time, he'll feel so guilty he'll jump and die on a fire xD
Nate was sooo natefused all the time - EPIC.
"I thought her phone was dead?!" or "I haven't even seen her apartment..?" & Serena and Blair "YOU were just so easy in Paris" "No Blair Waldorfing!" "Humpty and Dumpty" Those were great! I think Serena should be with Dan. But Dan is sometimes even more stupid than Nate. Come on. At the beginning of the episode, Dan tells Rufus that he still loves Serena and that he would've followed her to Paris if the Georgina indicent hadn't happened.
And after failing to tell Serena, he just tells Vanessa instead. Great. But still, Dan and Serena were the original Gossip Girl couple, so yeah... The same with Blair and Chuck. 4x01 Blair tells Serena she's not over Chuck. 4x02 Blair tells Chuck she doesn't love him anymore. Chuck tells Blair he destroyed the only thing he's EVER loved.
4x04 Chuck tells Blair she took the thing he cared MOST about away from him. Stupid. Just stupid. I really like Juliet, seeing that someone is even better at Blair Waldorfing than Blair herself is quite funny. And Vanessa should just leave. BTW, have you seen the new set pics on youknowyouloveme . org ?
******SPOILER***** Jenny returns and she's got a new (well, old actually) hair cut and color (kinda like season 1) and there's the Masquerade Ball.
She's also wearing the same dress and mask as Serena (OMG? Season 1 anyone?). And Chuck and Blair MATCH again! Yay! I'd hoped before to see some history repeating... Anyways, great reviews! xoxo
