Grey's Anatomy Review: "These Arms of Mine"

at .

Last night’s episode was different than anything we’ve ever seen before on Grey’s Anatomy. Like one of my favorite comedy shows, The Office, the doctors had cameras following and taping their every footsteps for a documentary called Seattle Medical.

In the beginning, I wasn’t sure that I liked this storyline/documentary, but as it progressed, I rather enjoyed it. In this day and age, this type of documentary publicity wouldn’t be so shocking and it brought more reality to what’s been going on in the show.

These Arms of Mine” definitely wasn’t my favorite episode of the season so far, but it did bring an ending to the Mary chapter in Bailey‘s life.

Bailey and Mandy

I knew something bad would happen, but I really was surprised they killed Mary!

Mary’s poor husband had to deal with almost losing her in a mass killing, then going forward, with a surgery that ultimately leaves her in a coma. It goes to show you just how fragile life is and that you really never know when your time is up.

Callie and Arizona hit a rough patch after we learn that Arizona won the grant she applied for two years ago before she and Callie were ever an item. I can easily agree with both their points of view and was pleasantly surprised with the outcome.

Now that Callie and Arizona are off to Africa, will they be gone for long on the show? Do you think that Callie will ever come to resent Arizona for not staying?

Cristina still is not fixed. As much as we all already want her to be back to her robotic self, it looks like the trauma from the shooter really effected her the most.

Throughout the night, Cristina seems bland and unenthusiastic.

What happened to that spark we saw last week? I really hope this new Cristina isn’t permanent! Do you think the old Cristina will ever come back and if so, what will make those tiny sparks turn back into the flames of the old Cristina?

I really loved the high tech surgeries this week. We’ve never seen someone build a trachea, much less give a guy new arms, in one episode! Showing of their brilliance doesn’t hurt especially since the hospital has only been known for the shooting lately.

It really worked out well for everyone at the hospital in that respect.

An Alex Karev Photograph

Probably my favorite part from the episode had to be Alex and his terrible ability to hide how great he is not only in pediatrics, but with kids.

It was fun to watch him put up his big jerk front, but at the end of the day, we all know that Alex is a huge soft teddy bear. Who else would sing Justin Bieber to their patient and live in the hospital for thirty days to save this young girl's life?

As much as I want to not like Alex Karev sometimes for all the bonehead things he says and does, I can’t help but love him! Deep down, underneath all the B,S there’s an amazing man. I just wish there was someone I wanted him to be with!

It was always Izzie. Now who? April? That just feels forced.

Overall, tonight’s episode scored a solid four out of five stars. I really liked it, but this season still hasn’t really wowed me. What did you think of tonight’s episode?

Until next week, here are a few of my favorite Grey’s Anatomy quotes:

Cristina: Well we went through the scariest thing a person can go through and we survived. So now everyday's just a gift. And now we're all blessed. Blessed to be here, blessed to be doing what we do best, which is saving lives. Every day. One life at a time. We're healed so that we can continue healing others. | permalink
Cristina: People like to say what I did was heroic, but I wasn't. It was just a thing that I had to do. I think people like to have a hero and it makes them feel better to think that they're in the middle of that horror that there's someone special working medical miracles. I don't have super special medical powers.
Meredith: Cristina is a hero, especially to me. The truth is most surgeons could not have done what she did that day. | permalink
Bailey: This is one surgery that I am happy to have finish. Tonight I may very well take the night off, go out, maybe have a drink, who knows? | permalink
Alex: Pediatric surgery has nothing to do with liking kids. You go into peds because it's elite. The best of the best. | permalink
Reporter: Is there any one thing you'll take away from all of this?
Cristina: Being a hero has it's price. | permalink
Jackson: It's been hard since the shooting. I lost some friends that day. | permalink
Sloan: You're thinking like a neuro guy.
Derek: I am a neuro guy. | permalink
Alex: Lily, I told you already - turn it down or put on your head phones. The rest of us don't have Bieber fever - whatever that is. | permalink
Meredith: Ask anyone - we're close.
Derek: Yeah, Dr. Yang and my wife sometimes have sleepovers in my bed, with me in it. | permalink
Meredith: It's pretty impossible to work this closely and not be close friends. | permalink
Cristina: Running a code can be chaotic. Sometimes the best thing you can do is know when to get out of the way. | permalink
