Grey's Anatomy Review: "Something's Gotta Give"

at . Comments

Cristina and Callie got to spend some uber-quality time together in last night’s episode of Grey's Anatomy, "Something's Gotta Give.”

This is a whole new side of Cristina Yang and I’m not sure if I hate it or love it! Probably the best scene had to be Cristina cutting Callie’s hair.

The crazy look Callie had on her face when she saw the damage Cristina did was priceless. Seriously Callie, we know you're dealing with heartbreak, but c’mon! Letting a traumatized woman near your hair with a pair of scissors is a bit on the dim-witted side.

Oh Mark, You're So Silly

Hey, it could have been worse for Callie.

Wouldn’t you have realized it was a bad idea when Cristina came over to you and chopped off a bunch of hair without notice? Fortunately for Callie, her hair turned out super cute.

In any case, I thoroughly enjoyed watching these two women saunter the malls. Living in South Florida, it reminded me of home and how so many women spend their afternoons wasting their lives doing nothing but shopping. It truly is a wondrous scene (insert sarcasm here).

Back to the review. April and Alex made huge waves in the romance department. Or should I say non romance department? The sparks between these two have been building up and I knew someone was bound to happen, but I wasn’t expecting Alex to be such a huge d!ck.

I find Alex’s hot and cold personality to be rather annoying. One minute I love him for how he is to his patients and another I want to throw him overboard for being so crude.

I wish Shonda would just let us love him completely. All this baggage Alex carries is very unattractive, don’t you think? I guess I’m not attracted to the wounded puppy type.

Dr. Stark will be an interesting replacement for Arizona while she’s in Africa. I can see Dr. Stark playing a huge role in helping Alex realize he’s in the right field, but I miss Arizona.

She's perfect for Peds and Dr. Stark will forever be creepy to me thanks to Ghostbusters.

Bossing Around Karev

I wasn’t a fan of the whole political surgery plotline. I understand there was a reason for having Teddy and Derek work together, but other than that, what really was the point? Did anyone else see something going on between Teddy and the government agent?

Maybe a future romance could blossom here? I find that very doubtful.

My heart broke a little when Bailey told the Chief about how much she needed a win. Even though these last couple losses haven’t been her fault, I could see how she would take it all personally. Yang is her student and out of all the students, no one would have ever guessed that she would be the one to quit, including Bailey.

I do like Jackson and Bailey working together. I foresee that Jackson will be able to learn a lot from Bailey and who knows? Maybe she’ll get that win that after all.

Lastly, I'm confused by the whole Lexie-Mark situation. Rather, the nonexistent situation. What’s going on with them? Why are they showing attraction for other people?

Lexie and Jackson would make a beautiful pairing, but Mark is her lobster! Ugh. I hate having to wait around for everyones happily ever afters to begin! At least, from the last couple episodes, life’s been pretty smooth sailing for Derek and Meredith. Sigh.

Fingers are most definitely crossed that this will continue.

From the previews, next week’s episode looks wicked awesome. Until then, I leave you with a few of my favorite Grey’s Anatomy quotes from last night:

Bailey: I could use a win, that's all. Yang. Yang was the one I didn't have to worry about.
Chief: I know. I know. | permalink
Meredith: Every pressurized system needs a relief valve. There has to be a way to reduce the stress, the tension, before it becomes too much to bare. There has to be a way to find relief because if the pressure doesn't find a way out, it will make one. It will explode. It's the pressure we put on ourselves that's the hardest to bare. The pressure to be better then we already are. The pressure to be better than we think we can be. It never ever lets up. It just builds and builds and builds. | permalink
Cristina: If you are here for the party then you are way too early.
Derek: I'm not here for the party. | permalink
Derek: (about Cristina) I'm sorry. I have a personal stake here too. I wouldn't be standing here if it wasn't for her. | permalink
Lexie: (to Alex) Ouch! Okay since when is it okay to shoot people in this hospital? | permalink
Bailey: You know the first rule of residency: Eat when you can, sleep when you can, and don't screw with the pancreas. | permalink
Callie: Look at my hair!
Cristina: Yeah I sorta can't believe you let me do that.
Callie: Cristina!
Cristina: That's okay. We'll go to the mall. You might want a hat. | permalink
Bailey: Who's in there?
Jackson: Is it the President? Vice President? Bono?
Bailey: Bono!? | permalink
Chief: From a global perspective, it would be great if he didn't die. | permalink
Callie: Oh my God! What are you doing! Are you insane!?
Cristina: Let's make lemonade. | permalink
Callie: (to Cristina) Hey! This is disturbing. Stop! | permalink
Alex: What happens in Vegas, ya know? | permalink
Meredith: The human body is a highly pressurized system. The blood pressure measures the force of blood pulsating through the arteries. It's important to keep this pressure regulated. Low or inadequate pressure can cause weakness or failure. It's when the pressure gets too high that problems really occur. If the pressure continues to increase, a closer examination is called for. Because it's the best indicator that something is going terribly wrong. | permalink

Chair me up

i loved the episode! ga's back on track after so-so season 6 and shaky beginning of season 7.
i love karev. no matter what he does. he;s troubled, so i forgive him everything. he;s smart and soo lovely with kids. i hate that new head of pediatrics.. ;<
and i'm glad he and april didn't hook up. it wasn;t the time, she was trying to comfort him, but expected sth more, what he couldn;t give her. what he did was awful, but i love him too much to blame him. he misunderstood her, he was broken after visiting iowa.. i can't blame him, besides it was april who started making out.

I enjoyed most of this episode. It kept me engrossed much of the time. I liked the unexpected no sex scene between Alex and April. I completely expected him to be him. He can have sex with no strings. I'm glad they didn't do it. April would be a wreck afterward when he rejected her, and she would have followed him around like an abused puppy. She's just getting interesting. I don't want to see her in the role of the victim right now. It will happen eventually because that was the whole reason for telling the viewers she's a virgin, right? Christina and Callie were so unexpectedly fun to watch. That's a complete twist from the normal moping that happens when someone makes a major life decision or loses a girlfriend. The haircut and party were hilarious. I felt no connection at all to the patients- the woman who died and the secret patient. The suspense that should have been there was just missing. I didn't understand enough about this patient to care whether he lived or died. He didn't seem real to me. I didn't understand how this one man had so much power, and I didn't know why he was there in the first place. There were so many unexplained parts to this story that I didn't really care about this character. Overall, I did enjoy this episode.

i don't condone what alex did, but i don't blame him either. as his supporters have all pointed out, seeing what he's been through, you can't expect much more from him. as for april, yes it sucks. it was hurtful, but she was warned and she walked straight into it anyway. let her be a lesson to all girls: the "hurt bad-boy" is attractive but the probability of you being THE ONE to change him and make him nice is LOW so if your heart lives in your vagina, and especially if you're a virgin, STAY AWAY!!!

Okay guys we all agree that the review is a bit negative but in the end it's a REVIEW and everyone has it's own way of seeing things,or valuating them... Personally i didn't "DIE" for this episode but it has some strong moments... I agree that the haircut scene with Callie and Christina is the funniest..By the way i love Callies new haircut it looks great on her... Christina will come back eventually but really right now she needs to put herself together,do something else and not have people pressuring her to be who she was because clearly for now she's not..Loved when Derek took her just to talk and relax ,that really was great of him... About Alex...I really like him,he's been through so much diffuculties, we all know that..First his mom, than the crazy Rebeca and of course Izzie and now his brother..Everyone who's been through so much is allowed to explode or act the way he did because in the end we know he doesn't act like that because he's a bad guy..But still i really felt bad for April,i've started to like her more since the third episode, and we know she's a virgin so it's normal that she wanted him to take it slow so she could her her special first time... Jackson is beeing a little wierd,i don't know why but in these last couple of episodes he really made some mistakes..Something is going on with him...Maybe be we'll know soon what? I want Mark and Lexie together but it seems that it's not going to happen anytime soon..But i get it,it is going to wait for a while .Shonda herself said that both of them have some growing up to do so... I saw the promo from next weeks episode and Callie and Mark were pretty much getting where they were way before ...I have to say that this really bothers me, I mean aren't they BEST FREINDS, why does it always have to be more, can't someone just be good friend with a guy or a girl and not sleep with them..I love Mark and Callie as friends, they're funny and entertainig but not as a couple ... Finally can't wait for the next episode and some interesting moments...

Terrible review.
But guys, this is Mrs. Northman after all so no need to be disappointed the review isn't even near good. It's just her usual stuff

@MarshaSheppard wtf is wrong with you? alex didn't abuse april. also, to call us people who believe in abuse is one of the rudest things i've ever heard in my entire life. he might have been mean, but to all the people who are like 'he should be nicer, just because he's been through some stuff doesn't mean he gets to be a jerk.'
ok, well look at his story: his mother is schizophrenic, his dad abusive, he gets put into foster care at 11, then juvie. he still gets himself through med. school. his girlfriend goes crazy and cuts herself, his wife gets cancer then disappears. he gets shot. then he goes back home to see his brother schizophrenic and trying to kill his sister, and now has to be committed.
if only he could be a bit nicer! if that happened in real life, this person would probably end up committed himself. you're all being ridiculous, and the review was, i agree, lazy.

@whatever: I think Mark considers Cristina as equal - they share a few character traits like pretending not to care at all.

dont worry guys...alex is gonna come through someday...jackson ight punch him n MARK might humiliate him, but alex is a real reason this show is going i wrong shonda????

okay alex awas officially an ass. and i loved wathcin gkacson punch him. i kind of wonder if somewhere in the futture jackson and april will get together? he was all sweet and protective with her. but ewwww to jackson and lexie. MARK IS HER LOBSTER!!!!

I totally agree with Mrs. Northman. Alex always acts without thinking. Yes, they didn't have sex, but I'm pretty sure that's the closest she's ever come to it.
He treated her as a piece of sh*t and ya'll think it's okay because he's "dealt with a lot in his life- and most of the time he's kept his mouth shut and kept fighting" or because he "internalizes all his pressure and then snaps at people as a release"??? You guys should really get a job as lawyers and stand up for all those guys out there that emotionally/physically abuse their wives and girlfriends.
