Grey's Anatomy to "Cure" Cristina Thursday?

by at . Comments

A little time away can work wonders.

The Derek-Cristina fishing trip in this Thursday's episode of Grey's Anatomy will do what we've been waiting months for, according to E! Online, and that's "fix" Cristina Yang.

How exactly it does that, we'll have to wait and see, but it's supposedly very emotional, and with the outdoorsy McDreamy guiding this self-help trip, how can it go wrong?

Meanwhile, Scott Foley guest stars as a new patient of, and potential love interest for Teddy, who's really taken with him. Click here for a full photo gallery for Thursday!

@psyisnotcrapa No, it isn't that different. The feeling of knowing you can die at any second and having to work through it is the same. Perfectly healthy people get PTSD from rape as well as many other traumatic experiences. It isn't about coping better, Cristina and Meredith had different experiences. Meredith did not have to operate with a gun to her head, Cristina did. That is why Cristina can't operate right now. Being back in a similar setting would set anyone off. It is a normal reaction that any normal person could have.

Alex was forced to relive the location of his own trauma, the elevator and he's had to confront his fear. Lex went OTT and had sleep troubles, she seems to have dealt with it with the big sleep. I have to say I'm surprised that Der hasn't mentioned his guilt at the 11 member of his staff who died, that was dealt with by one brief scene with Kepner. Bailey is grieving for the loss of the resident who was working with her. Bailey said Cris was the one she didn't think she'd had to worry about to Webber. Cris was very insecure about not being the centre of Mer's life when Der moved in, but Cris was unattached then. But her visiting the MerDer bedroom when things fall apart for her kinda suggests for me she has few other options for dealing with things if Owen disappears. Cris has lost her driving ambition to be a surgeon and she's lost without it due to the PTSD. But I think this storyline needs winding up as the main GA storyline we've seen in S7. I keep thinking back to the ghost Denny and Izzie and how annoying that storyline became. I don't want to start feeling tht way aboout Cris too. I don't think Cris would have walked out of the OR when Clark arrived, whether Mer begged her to stay or not. I think Cris resents that Mer is not in dark place with PTSD like her. Mer's dark and twisty past may be her get out clause for PTSD. Mer knows too that bad things happen that you can't control, so she can cope with all the bad stuff better that Cris

Edited post.
@greyfan1000 Having PTSD from a war is different than having PTSD for a one day shooting. Soldier are constantly suggested to violent acts, they even have to do horrible things to survive. For soldiers no matter what their background is they will come home mess up in one way or another. In Cristina's case she wasn't constantly suggested to the gun on her head, is was one horrible day in her life, that she is reliving over and over. Her PTSD is severe because she doesn't have a handle on her emotions, she doesn't know how to channel her feelings and traumas because she doesn't have the emotional foundation do it. Cristina has never been in touch with her feeling, she suppress them. That why she has her snarky attitude and the hardcore attitude those are things she uses to suppress her feelings. Now Cristina wants to suppress her fears but her defense mechanism is failing her because it wasn't healthy in the first place, so she becomes paralyze in the OR and relives the shooting in her head. Cristina doesn't and has never how to channel her feelings. Yes Cristina has grow up a lot but she still has issues and that contributes to her recent situation.

@Psychisnotcrap
Anyone can get PTSD, regardless of their background. There are plenty of soldiers who come from a good background and come back with PTSD. Cristina had the gun to her head in the most difficult situation, that is why she is the most affected. No one else was performing surgery at the time the gun was pointed at them and they all did exactly what they were told when it was, while she could not. That is why performing surgery doesn't affect anyone else like it does her.

I've mentioned before that the first time Owen kicked her out was wrong, I just don't think he is wrong this time. You don't undermine your superior in the middle of the OR and not expect any consequences. The only thing she should have done was make a suggestion, if she had one. He obviously is not going to let the patient die if there is something he can do, it wouldn't make any sense. Plenty of other attendings have kicked people out of the OR just for being disrespectful. Cristina has been kicked out at least twice for that reason. Owen has every right to kick Meredith out just for that reason, as it is obvious in the she is being disrespectful. It also looks like she is being distracting as well, which is worse because someone's life is at stake. I mentioned Derek pulling rank in reference to making things personal. He has done it with both Cristina and Bailey. This situation looks as if Meredith is making it personal, and if she is, she deserves to be kicked out.

@Greysfan1000, Again, it's the same episode as Rick. She DID scrub in at the end, she WAS in that OR. Derek let it pass but told her to stay in the back after she led Rick to his last cigarette despite Derek's concerns about it. He didn't kick her out. He pulled rank to shut her up (which she didn't), but he didn't kick her out. She stayed in that OR. Which isn't like anything that Owen has done because he has kicked Meredith out for personal reasons (not professional as Derek may have, which he doesn't even follow 'cause at the end, Cristina is there). Watch the promo again. Owen is ready to let the guy die.

Your background and the way you channel your emotions and feeling have a great of influence on how you deal with tramautic situations. Cristina doesn't know how to channel her emotions in a healthy way, she repress them instead of letting them go. When George died Cristina was the last of them to cry because she was the least healthy, the writers words in writers blog. Now Cristina is reacting the way she is reacting because on top experiencing something traumatic, she lack a strong psychological foundation.

I think Shonda said what she meant, that Cristina's PTSD was from have the gun to her head during surgery; that is the way I saw it from the beginning. Bailey didn't have a gun pointed at her while she was operating and, when the gun was pointed at her, she had to lie to save her life. The others in the OR didn't even assist Cristina until the gun was pointed away from them because the normal response when someone has a gun to you is to do what the shooter says to save your life. She had to go against her instincts and do the exact opposite of what the shooter said, knowing that any second he could kill her. Having to go back into a situation that reminds you of that experience would stress anyone out, regardless of their background.

So really is NOT the gun being pointed at Cristina's head while she operates, that has given Cristina PTSD. Shonda simplifies it in interviews by saying it was the gun pointed at Cristina's head while she operated on Derek, because she assumes that most people would understand that Cristina has never being the most healthy of characters and now all of her issues had come to ahead prompted by the shooting. The reality is that Cristina problem is way more deeper and older than shooting.

Grey's Anatomy Quotes

Vulnerability isn't the opposite of strength. It's a necessary part. You have to force yourselves to open up, to expose ourselves, to offer everything we have and just pray that it's good enough. Otherwise, we'll never succeed.

Meredith

Our lives are built on our mistakes as much as our successes.
