Life Unexpected Review: "Camp Grounded"
I really do look forward to watching Life Unexpected each week, and was surprised how much I missed it last week.
With that being said, I've come to the realization that this is just a guilty pleasure of mine. A lot of what happens on this show is so very unrealistic.
Last night's episode, "Camp Grounded," was the perfect example of what I am talking about.
Lux and the entire gang go camping. Already this sets up a situation that's very unrealistic. The only chaperons on the trip happen to be related to Lux - oh, and of course Eric would be there, too.
I get that the writers need to involve all the characters, but wouldn't it have been more realistic if Cate or Baze (and their significant others) stayed home?
I am uncertain about how I feel about the whole relationship unfolding between Lux and Eric. A part of me likes the idea of her being with him. I know it boarders along a pedophile relationship, but he really is only six years older than her.
In any case, he's her teacher and it's totally wrong. They both know it's wrong, but by the end of the episode Eric is holding Lux's hand. Really? Wouldn't someone notice this?
Or better yet, wouldn't someone notice that Lux chose to sit next to her teacher instead of her one and only friend?
I wonder if the writers are going to let these two illegal lovebirds get hot and heavy before the parents find out. How do you feel about this budding relationship?
Cate and Ryan also have a very tumultuous relationship. They really have been through a lot and I am surprised after everything, they both want to make it work.
I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see for myself that Baze was the one person to get through to Ryan. If I was Ryan, I wouldn't let Baze get 10 feet near me, much less be my snuggle buddy in a tent.
There's been some talk floating around the comment world that Emma is not good enough for Baze. After tonight's episode, I'd say I agree with Lux. I think she is exactly what he needs to get over Cate. Also, I must admit, I've been a fan of Emma Caufield from her 90210 days.
It would be nice to see Baze settle down with someone like Emma. As much as I always rooted for him to get together with Cate, I just don't feel it anymore. Cate has way too much baggage and I actually think she and Ryan belong together.
What did you think of this week's episode? Until next week, here are a few of my favorite Life Unexpected quotes:
Eric: I can't. I won't actually.
Lux: What?
Eric: Let you go. | permalink
Ryan: (to Baze) What the hell man. If I wanted to spoon, I'd taken up a tent with Cate. | permalink
Ryan: You know what they say about break-up sex...
Cate: Or make-up sex. But we're not making up are we?
Ryan: I don't know. | permalink
Eric: (to Lux) You are a grown up trying to act like a kid. | permalink
Math: If you first don't succeed...
Cate: Bite me. | permalink
Math: Tell me you didn't bring a date.
Ryan: No, I brought a chaperon to take Ryan's spot. You're welcome. | permalink

Cate: I'm making French toast. Ryan: That's fine. The fire alarm will wake me up.

@Cassie, I agree. I don't get Eric/Lux, it just doesn't fit. I'm not convinced that they even like each other, let alone love. And Eric saying that she's 'grownup'? Lux is one of the most immature characters. She's a petulant child. *(Lux totally does - how does a kid who had nothing develop such a sense of entitlement?)* hit the nail right on the head!
Thank God Tasha isn't supporting her decision. She's becoming one of my fave characters.
Hopefully Ryan owns up to his mistakes. He's acting as if sleeping w/his ex was nothing. It's not like she was some random chick at a club.
I like Baze and Erin, I hope they can maintain this relationship.

This episode was just awful. Yes, Lux and Eric are only 6 years apart but she's underage and he's a teacher. It doesn't matter about how many years apart they are, she's still underage. I don't think the criminal justice system would really care how deeply they "feel" for each other. (And I don't think Cate and Baze will be too pleased when they find out).
Eric's actions were creepy. Lux is a kid - yes, she's lived the hard life, but she's still a kid. Eric should know better and the fact that he doesn't is disturbing. And it's not just that he can't let go, it's that he WON'T, and he also won't let Lux let go. During that scene, I was thinking "stalker!"
I am surprised that Tasha is the voice of reason here but she's right. Why can't disturbing Eric and Lux just wait a couple of years until she's over 18? May still be a bit weird, but at least he wouldn't be her teacher anymore. Tasha has a right to try to "fit in", if she wants - I don't see her trying to be someone

I do agree with the eric/lux situation, he's not a creepy guy but I don't like the underage/teacher relationship storyline even though they didn't know when it first happened they're not thinking of the consequences which makes them idiots -_-

Well it was a fun episode and I Agree it was very unrealistic but the fun one among all the episodes this season... the storyline have been tacky this season... where the first season started off original this year they went along with stolen or repeated story lines... We love the Characters and sadly show has been canceled and hope we get some closure ... P.S Austin Nicoles Ripped abs were Hot

I am stunned that people would condone statutory rape and/or child abuse simply because "it's a TV show." Why would you condone it as part of a TV show, but not if it happened to your daughter or son. Think about Mary Kay Letourneau. It's the same story. Would it still be okay if Lux was 14 or 15? Why does 16 make it better? She's still a girl--a damaged girl with a rough life to date.
Regardless of how Lux and Eric met and what happened before they found out he was a teacher, they now know. Wouldn't it be more responsible of the show to have the teacher BE A TEACHER and either move on to another school/area or put an end to a relationship that will lead to his being fired, arrested, and labeled for life as a sex offender. For crying out loud, she'll be 18 in two or three years. Can't he wait?

I loved this episode, I really like the Eric/Lux relationship too, they have amazing chemistry and the best scenes of the show...I am disappointed to hear this show isn't getting more episodes and could potentially be cancelled! :(

OMG I just watched this show for the first time last night and fell in love! After it was finished I stayed up watching episodes 1-6 of season 2 so I could get the whole scoop. Honestly, loved every minute of it. Like someone up there said, it really does bring back memories of my once favorite show One Tree Hill. Not that they had anything in common obviously, but that was once a really great show(rip one tree hill seasons 1-3 lol) What im saying is its great to finally watch another show that really does have a lot in common with life. And to find out it may or may not be cancelled SUCKS. CW has lost all hope. What they should do is replace the time slot, more ppl would definitely watch. All in all, good stuff!!!!!!!!!!
