Meredith and Derek have not been focused on at all this season. Meredith telling Derek about the miscarriage, which could have had more screen time, turned out to be something she said in passing. I know that they are "married" but SR please realize that does not make them boring!
Oh without Meredith Grey's wouldn't be the same. . . love Lexie but she is not Meredith!

I am perfectly happy with MerDer being a happy married couple. They can be happily married and still have drama together. What about the fertility issues?? Let them have the McBaby and a dramatic pregnancy. They should not be put on a back burner. I would not watch Grey's without them. Love MerDer!!

Actually, I think the point here is that they are being neglected. The issue is whether or not that's a bad thing.

Being* Sorry. :) Though I agree with anfulus. If Mer left the show I do not know if the show would be as good. I know they will survive but It won't be as exciting for me.

The reason there is so many people posting in this forum is because MerDer is beging neglected. Simple as that.

I definitely don't think the show will survive losing two of its main characters at once as anuflas said. I think this whole thing is more about how we need to see more development coming from MerDer's relationship. Personally I don't think that the show needs to revolve around them but they are the foundation of the series. We need to see how they're developing as a couple but that doesn't necessarily mean that they need to get the most airtime.

GA may be able to survive the loss of one of the three main characters but if two leave, I can see the ratings going downhill fast. The show doesn't have the structure to survive with its three golden stars going away.
Lexie Grey is NOT the Grey. Without Meredith, there is no Grey. The show would have to be renamed and restructured. Good luck with that SR.

The main reason alot of people watch this show is to see Meredith and Derek have their ups and downs that's why the show was so popular in the early seasons, I definitely think there need to be mored drama in that department.

@seriously...technically there WOULD still be a grey. It would be really different, but with the lack of mer/der there has been this season, and the amount of people still tuning in week after week, is proof that the show sadly enough will survive without them...there is a LARGE fan base out there, that isn't all about mer/der.....there are mexie fans, calzona fans, crowen fans, avery fans....sad but true...lets focus on the now, and not what might happen

@ JULES I agree!!! I heard Shonda Rimes say in an interview, that Ellen Pompeo, as well as Chyler Leigh wasn't around much right after they had their babies, because they were being a mother...props to them for not taking a long maternity leave, and staying at work. No one knows what is REALLY going on, maybe Ellen ASKED for less time on the screen no one knows....i'm sure there will be more mer der to come...deep breaths people, deep breaths

There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with Grey's...look how many people are this forum, complaining, loving, most of all talkin bout it. this show isn't goin anywhere. Mer/der are married now when you get married you get boring, lol. it happens to the best of us.....if mer/der were the focus of every episode i highly doubt mer/der fans would be saying there are too many mer/der centered episodes. let other people have the spotlight...ellen pompeo has a kid and wants to spend some time with her...geeez louise

"If you think so, the lack of focus on Meredith may be one of your issues. The miscarriage, the aftermath of the shooting, the house, a baby, the relationships with Lexie and Thatcher, a big decision regarding her medical specialty ... we've seen little exploration of any." "Meredith's reveal of her miscarriage was anti-climactic..."
Your quotes say it all!!!! That is exactly what is wrong with Grey's. SR is too "tired" to write good stories anymore. She got pissed off at her fans when they basically forced her to stop all the angst w/Mer-Der; so she Post-It married them & now leaves all their story-lines in mid-sentence.
She thinks we actually care about & would rather see all the new idiots she's jamming down our throats.
GA will not make it when Ellen & Patrick leave, so why not make the remaining epis Mer/Der based w/a lot of Alex, Chris, Bailey, Chief & Callie. That's what made GA, GA...why change a good formual? GREED.

if ellen pompeo and patrick dempsey leave how can there be a grey's anatomy????there will be no grey!!in the first seasons meredith was dark and twisty in a really funny way!!!and derek....derek was an optimist with exwife problems!!!:D i really liked that.now we can't see the merder relationship.meredith is more like a support character.and derek is just an exchief who got shot and has no problems about it.all we have seen about merder in the last 2 seasons is about what??20 minites??they have to be main characters again!!!!!!
they could never be boring. love that they're happy! they belong together!

Well I love MerDer from the beginning and I will till the end. That said this season has been extremely lack some development for MerDer. I mean for the love of God Derek got shot and Mer lost her baby. However I am used to not seeing them, it comforts me because the less screen time they have the less chance the writers have to screw with them. Have you notice how the writers screw with the character with more screen time. I don't want to be in shoes of Calzona fans or in the shoes of Mexie fans, or even in the shoes of C/O fans, don't think that just because Owen and Cristina are married the writers won't screw with them down the line, they got married under extraordinary circumstance. Just saying.
So I'm happy that MerDer are happy, and should stay that way.

Shonda Rhimes has said via twitter and all over the place that GA is about Meredith Grey and the people in her life. For god sake in the season 6 finale and episode which Shonda Rhimes herself wrote. The first part of the finale the voice over was all about Meredith saying that the hospital is her home. That wasn't put in there to just sound pretty.
This show is dissecting the Grey side of life, and the only character that can totally see the Grey is Meredith.

@Dr.Cerreno : Do read my comment again and try to understand. I agree the title is a pun ! I have never said that the title refers to baileys interns but I say that's what the show is really about ! So don't get all text-message angry, then watch the pilot again ... The title is just a fun pun and i think your try to hard to theorize about it. The show has never been about Mer's life but the life of the interns of SG.

I think shonda likes any kind of controversy following her show. Obviously its not going anywhere, the ratings may not be what they were in seasons 1 and 2 but they are still up there....as for Mer/Der not being the center of attention right now, lets everyone just take a deep breath together....I'm sure their time is coming! Everyone lets just chill

@anuflas the writers blog this season is full of MDers asking the writers for Meredith/MerDer to have a storyline and screentime! And twitter asking SR and Krista..
But I guess they are too lazy to write a grown up storyline for a married couple. Even if PD and EP have till S8, why they don't use them instead of 30 sec each episode? And when they do talk it's about Cristina! I guess a triangle after triangle and a repeat storyline of Izzie and Denny no2 is more important..
