Loretta Devine (Adele) Previews Return to Grey's Anatomy

Loretta Devine, who has played Adele Webber since the beginning on Grey's Anatomy, returns this week for the first of five episodes in her character's latest story arc.

It's an arc that many have speculated will be Adele's last.

“I’m a little scared myself,” says the actress. “I know she keeps falling and that she’s blaming it on her shoes. They don’t know what it is, I think. I have a couple of more episodes [to film], so I think we’ll be finding out in the next couples of episodes.”

Adele and Miranda

Adele with Miranda in her latest stint in the hospital.

While her relationship with Richard has been open-ended as far as fans' knew, it turns out she and the Chief are “the happiest they’ve ever been in their lives,” she said

“They’re very much in love, and he’s very supportive of her. They just can’t agree on what’s causing her to fall,” she said. “Her personality is still intact, though."

"I have a couple of great scenes with Bailey. Bailey and I are always butting heads because those are two powerful women. So they send Bailey in to examine me, and oh my God, we get into it. She still has her spunk, I would say.”

Adele and Richard have typically been at odds when she's been around. Could the writers be leading us to believe they're happy now only to set us up for a fall?

@ Seriously13, Yes, it would be tragic if Adele has Alzheimers like Ellis did. In fact, the chief would get to see, first hand, what Meredith endured the last years of her mother's life and why her current study is so important. Also, it could bring them closer together which I hope happens. I hate how the writers have not made them as close as they could be considering he's the only father figure she's known and she's the only daughter figure he's had. Could be very interesting.

I hope they don't kill off Adele. I have liked the story lines she has had...whether it was with her relationship with Richard or when her "niece" had cancer.

    Linda,

Addison and Lucy's specialties are different. Addison is also a Neonatal surgeon, which Lucy isn't. So Addie can operate on baby and mom, while Lucy an only operate or help mom, mostly.

I hope they don't kill off Adele as character, I love it when Adele's in GA.

Kill off Altman, Kepner and Avery instead!

I'd love Adele, Dr Perkins, Dr Stark, Dr Lucy Fields, Henry, Avery, Eli & maybe just maybe even April & Teddy to get lost somewhere from where characters never come back.

The show is polluted enough as it is.I'm sick of watching their useless SLs.It's so disruptive. Why the writers don't go back to the basics where we had much less but better developed characters? It's so crowded now days...my head is spinning, seriously!

Let's see, Adele, Mer's dad, Addison, Dr. Perkins, all are returning to GA so why not Burke and Izzie? I also have a question, if Dr. Fields is such a great obgyn why is Addison returning to the show?

Maybe Adele returning, which is for 5 episodes, will be her demise. Perhaps the death is what bring's back Dr. Andrew Perkins for 3 episodes. The Chief may not be dealing with her death well and needs a counselor.

I've read that people with alzheimers are prone to serious falls.

Wouldn't it be tragic if Adele had alzheimers like Ellis?
