Army Wives Review: "Movement To Contact"

by at . Comments

After seeing the previews for this episode, I sat through "Movement To Contact" wondering when that damn SUV was coming and to whom it would bring a message. I felt like I was watching the late news and they were holding the most important story until the end to drive me nuts. The wait was killing me.

Well, the wait will kill me for another seven days. It was, as I expected, the very last scene. There are not enough spoilers for Army Wives, and I'm going to be aching for every character on the show until I know what happened. I expect next week to be a tissue-laden viewing experience.

Movement to Contact Scene

The Burtons are still struggling to keep their lives together. Joan has bitten off more than she can chew as Garrison Commander. A successful family life might take more dedication than she can devote to both job and family. I'm still surprised that Roland hasn't snapped by now. He is such a strong man.

When Joan questioned their decision to send Sarah Elizabeth to Westlake Preschool instead of supporting the Child Development Center on post, I liked that Roland suggested using her position to change things so they might be able to send Sarah Elizabeth elsewhere for kindergarten. I guess this is the love and teamwork I haven't experienced myself that keeps their marriage together.

Claudia Joy's first day at work did not hold the excitement she expected. I felt so badly for her; she was gung ho and basically put in her place as she walked in the door. I never expected Professor Chandler to treat her like dirt.

Given his past appearances, I also would have never guessed he and Claudia Joy would have something so heart-felt in common: the loss of a daughter. I was happy they finally gave him a human side outside of his relationship with Claudia Joy. Hopefully, it will give her career room to flourish, as well as their friendship, and we won't have to worry about the questionable leanings of their past.

Considering how Denise and Tonya's relationship started, I thought it was great that Jeremy felt he could go to his mom when Tonya dropped her bombshell on him. It must have been difficult to learn over the phone that Tonya didn't want to marry him, but he had no better advocate than his mom to go in as backup.

What a great job she did! When Tonya and Jeremy were talking later on the phone, I had chills. I know theirs was a whirlwind romance, but under the circumstances in which they fell in love, being at war, I didn't doubt their love for each other at all. It's a lot easier to believe than an old episode of The Love Boat.

I really don't like the new devil version of TJ. If they ship him to juvie, it would be a blessing for the entire LeBlanc family. When they showed the flag raising the day after TJ broke Lucas' arm, and Roxy looking at her family photos, I had my mind made up that it was Trevor who would be killed in action.

Her family has the most to lose. Her life is on the edge already. The death of Trevor would send TJ over the edge. I don't know how much farther he could go at this point. At the very least, Roxy is safely planted on the show because she runs the hump bar. It would be easy for her to make a living and remain near base.

I loved the strength of their friendship this week. I am dreading how much they will need that strength next week. My mind is whirling with possibilities. Given the preview scenes, every family is at risk. Tonya wasn't grasping hands with the others, is that an omen? I saw Emmalin at the funeral service. Omen? TJ and Finn both jumping into Roxy's arms in tears. Omen? None of the wives seemed to be in a specific position at the service to come to any conclusions.

Meet back here next week so we can share in our grief. In the meantime, share your thoughts in the comments. I can't be the only one who will be heartbroken all week in anticipation...

How sad tonight's episode of Army Wives was. I think I cried through most of the episode. But it is reality with what is going on. My heart and prayers go out to families who have lost someone in the way. God Bless the USA !

I've looked at the previews and I don't think it's Frank. He seems to be the one saying " ready aim, fire". I think it may be Jeremy because Denise is sitting first in the line at the church. On the other hand I think it may be Gen. Holden because I did not see Tonya (Jeremy's Fiancee) there at all. I can't wait until tomorrow!

I really think it is Gen. Holden. In one of the previews it shows the person given the flag has on black hose and when they are walking away from the funeral Claudia Joy is the only one with black hose on and Emmelyn is walking next to her.

The guy who plays Chase is no longer on Brothers and Sisters. He was one for a few episodes and that was it.

@tyler - pamela was pregnant in the first series, she was a surrogate mother and gave birth in the hump bar. I think its chase that died although i didnt see the preview for next week. I just read an interview with sally pressman and she says that we dont find out til the middle of the next episodoe

After reading the comments, I believe, it's Jeremy's because his death would not affect any roles the wives play on the show. Denise will have lost her son but would remain on the show. I believe, in one of the earlier clips before the season started you could see Denise husband there. He would only be there for one of the two reasons; he is bringing his son's body home or he escorted Gen Holden's body home and I don't think they would bring him home for Gen Holden because there are plenty of people stateside that would be here to bring his body home to Claudia Joy. But the only reason Denise's husband would be there if because it's their son who dies. Their loss will show the loss that does and has been happening in Afghanistan to the viewers. I do agree it could be Chase because he hasn't been on the show. And it won't surprise me if it was BUT you do not see Pamela and Chase's children at the funeral and they would be there...the same goes for Roxy's children. I don't believe they will kill off Gen Holden because that would be the end of Claudia Joy's role. She would have support from the other wives but her role in the base functions would no longer be there for her....someone else would take on that role when her spouse was put in charge of Claudia Joy's husband's position. Emmalyn is there because when her sister died, her sister and Jeremy had been very close even dating I think. So, Jeremy was there to help Emmalyn and helped her when she was dating the military guy back in season 2, I think. As for why Roxy had her oldest son there...it could be because she wants to show him the sacrifice made by the death of Jeremy. Sorta shake him back to what is important. As for how they are informed I know, in other branches of the service the first duty is to get to the family involved. If that means finding them at someone else's home then they will do it. They want to get to them as quickly as possible before they, the family/spouse, finds out some other way. For example, the news service, friends who hear that there was an accident even though they are to shut down ALL communication to the command in involved until the families are informed sometimes it doesn't always go the way it is planned.

I looked at the previews and thought about it quite a bit and here's what I think. I think because of this increased storyline with Jeremy and Tanya it is Jeremy. I have several other reasons, one: they have let you know the Afgans are not ready to take over & they are allowing them to do so and (Jeremy, Frank & Jeremy) are there. two: his death will not change with the loss of any of the main characters having to leave the base. three: I didn't see Denise on the row with the other ladies, Roland and family members, which leads me to believe they are there for support. I don't know but I can't wait to watch. I really love the show.

My husband pointed out to me that they would only be allowed to go to the home of the person who died. So like someone said above, unless they are taking liberties, which makes the show less believable, it has to be Gen. Holden.

In looking at next weeks preview, the way they are lined up at the funeral, Denise is seated first leaving me to believe it is Jeremy. Last week I did think it would be Chase but Pamela is way down the line at the funeral. They give the flag to the person toward the beginning of the line. It's Jeremy for sure!

Army Wives Season 5 Episode 3 Quotes

Roland: I'm just that good, woman. Actually, I told them that my wife's commit to the Army was setting an excellent example for our daughter. A strong, self-reliant leader.
Joan: Hmmmm. They bought that?
Roland: They totally bought that.

You hear that baby? Mommy's gonna be there. Burton power. High five!
