Benjamin Bratt is coming to Private Practice this May, and sticking around.
While details are being kept under wraps, the actor will appear in the season finale, then join the ABC series as a regular cast member beginning next season.
It's the latest in a string of shakeups for the fourth-year medical drama, which maintains its loyal fan base, yet has been looking for a spark to inject new life.
Benjamin Bratt is joining the cast of Private Practice.
Earlier this year, Audra McDonald announced that she would be leaving the show at the end of the season to spend more time with her family in New York City.
Other changes came earlier in the season, when the show added Brian Benben (Dr. Sheldon Wallace) and Caterina Scorsone (Dr. Amelia Shepherd) as regulars.
The Grey's Anatomy spinoff, now in its fourth season, has garnered 8.2 million viewers this season, down from a full-season average of 9.3 million last year.
The series was nevertheless picked up for a fifth season in January.
No stranger to audiences, Bratt is perhaps best known for his stint on Law & Order. Forgive the pun, but is he just what the doctor ordered for Private Practice?
