Criminal Minds Review: "Valhalla"

at . Comments

In the first installment of a two-part, suspense-filled episode of Criminal Minds, "Valhalla" saw Paget Brewster's Emily Prentiss facing the demons of her past.

The opening was not for the faint of heart or those not paying exceptional attention to what was going on. Sadly, I failed the second part, and I even have DVR.

I didn’t realize that two different husbands and wives were killed in two different ways until Rossi and Hotch started explaining it.

Prentiss in Danger

I'm not going to try and make excuses for not following what was happening, it was just confusing. I'm not sure if it was supposed to be a blur, as there were small things that made each family stand out (i.e. the husband cursing in Italian over the spilled soda).

If it was, then great job, it worked and I got lost.

The main part of the episode is the continuation of Ian Doyle exacting revenge on those who sent him to prison. As we know from "Coda" (or learned from the "previously on...") Emily worked undercover at Interpol and was one of the major players in Ian going to jail.

I get that she has trust issues and she is not quick to trust the BAU team. What I am clearly missing is why she is working so hard to hide what she knows from the team.

Also, how is it out of the entire BAU only the computer nerd Garcia notices that Prentiss is being weird? My boss can tell at a glance when I had something bad for lunch; how are the trained behavioral experts not noticing things like her making weird calls in the bathroom or randomly puking at crime scenes?

I do give Morgan credit for trying to get her out of her shell.

He at least took a little time and talked to her in the car. I also have to mention that Shemar Moore has a voice that would melt butter. Someone needs to get him reading some audio books, he has an amazingly smooth voice.

Morgan and Prentiss

Wednesday was my first night back with the BAU team since J.J. left and while I do like Rachel Nichols, the look they give Seaver just doesn’t sit right with me.

Is her hair too stringy straight or too long? Do they have her going too “doe eyed”? I can’t put my finger on it but something didn’t click. Maybe she's just not JJ.

Overall, though, it was the great beginning to what is shaping up to be a character changing ending to this next week. What did you think of this episode?

What do you think will happen when it comes to light that Prentiss knew more than she told? Comment below and share your thoughts on Criminal Minds.

I used to love Criminal Minds, but when they got rid of JJ (Cooke)and now Prentiss (Brewster)I don't even care if I miss the show. If Gibson and Moore leave WOW where's the show? Montegna replaced the great actor Mandy and I didn't know if it would work but it did.Prentiss cacrahter took me a while to get use to, but she is great. I'm glad they gave more air time to Garcia. You had the crew. JJ, Garcia, Moore, Gibson, Rossi, Prentiss and of course they great Doctor Reid. Everyone played off the other. Don't ruin the show!!!Hope this didn't BORE you. Please, get back the cast and keep us happy.

e0 mon avis il faut mettre la se9rie sur des chaeenes fasncriae ou suisse car chez nous en europe ont aiment beaucoup christian slater pour moi c'est le meilleur.

I absolutely LOVE criminal minds but with 4 kids ive been missing out on a lot of episodes lately. I didnt know that emily had been killed until this past episode (where everyone is talking to hotch about it) and i was sad. I havent seen enough of the new girl to have an opinion but i do agree that she needs to be given time and benefit of doubt. Just dont ever take away morgan. Hes my weekly dose of YUM!

crimanal mind is one of the best crime related television shows on telly and i like every single one of these actors hopefully no more will be leaving us so soon people who dislike and say this show isnt worth while watching they dont know what they are talking about every one needs there dose of realty so im happy i started watching and i will always watch it until it is no longer availble.

When Emily goes from CM I will also not watch the show again. You have finally gotten rid of a strong female lead, the show won't be the same without her. Plus Criminal Minds is starting to get very sick...

Please, everyone, shut up. The Seaver haters, you need to realise that bringing a new character in mid-season will always be tough. They will not fit in right away, and if they did, you'd bash the writers for that as well. To the Seaver apologists, stop being upset that haters want to hate. It's part of what makes this country amazing: freedom of speech and right to free press (including internet comments.) You may not agree with what they say, but they have a right to say it. In any case, everyone should withold judgment fully til after the writers figure out what they're doing with the character (i.e. about half a season in.) House didn't get good til about 8 episodes or so in, and it's one of the best shows on TV.

I don't think that they should get rid of Emily. I was devastated when I saw and heard that was going to happen in 2 weeks. Please rewrite the script. They have finally found a strong charater woman that can go in the front door with the the guys and hold her own. I was hurt when J.J. left and I wonder what would happen on the family side of life and working a the BAU. I would so like to see Emily come out of this on a better end of this deal, having developed a sense of belonging, commitment and developed trust in her co-workers to the BAU. Having J.J. back, and Emily survive one of her worse days only to look over her shoulder and see the support of the team would be great. Why are we changing the good things about the show. Get rid of Strauss, please.

She no different then Jenny from NCIS infact their a lot a like like I say you guys are just selfish and greedy I mean heck it took the actress that play Ziva 3 year to get in the flow with the NCIS cast

Can i just say that all this negativity about Seaver is really getting on my nerves. I know she is no JJ, but everybody just has to take a step back from critizing her, for one i find the idea of her being the daughter of a serial killer really clever and intresting, but they have not really addressed this enough yet and when they do i think she will become a lot more likeable to people and it will give Rachel Nicholas to really show us what she can do as an actress. I know the issue of a serial killer's daughter has been addressed breifly in her first episode, but we really need to explore that and i know that probably wont happen till next season because of the whole Prentiss exit arc, along with other things and i am fine with that, all i am saying is don't jump to the conclusion that she is not a good character yet, we need to give the writers time to develop her character more and it looks like they are going to set her up as a love intrest for Reid, which should be fun especially becuase when they do get round to this the chances are Reid will be to nervous to act on the feelings that Garcia breifly noticed he had for her in an erlier episode, the chances are Reaid will ask Morgan for help which will be a fun little storyline. So basically what i am saying is that i know Seaver is no JJ, but dont write her off just yet as the writers need more time to develop her character and give her a side storyline of her own, which all the characters have had before, so dont write her off yet.

Rossi: You know you haven't had a vacation in a while, weren't you talking about Italy?
Prentiss: My mother extended her trip there; it would not be much of a vacation.
Rossi: It's a big country
Prentiss: Not big enough.

Prentiss: He is just a kid, can't be more than 25.
Morgan: A kid with an assault weapon isn't just a kid anymore.
