Sorry to be argumentative, but the analogy to "jumping the shark" has nothing to do with this episode. Jumping the shark comes from Happy Days. The shows middle aged characters had outgrown their teenage roles and instead of gracefully wrapping things up and bowing out as Friends so gracefully did they resorted to silly gimmicks like Fonzi jumping a shark on his motorcycle. The musical episode was a creative stretch concieved by the Greys creator when the show was born; not a stupid stunt designed to revive a dead show. Whether you liked it or not, the producers were attempting to stretch the boundaries of what's been done in the past in dramatic shows. It was brave and risky. Did it work? Maybe not for everybody, but if you really watched it, you have to admire the incredible work and the courage it took for all of them to put themsleves out there for something so different and new. I think someday people will look back and when someone tries something new on tv or in

I'm from Greece and on greek subtitles, they didn't translate the songs, maybe cause they found it difficult... I speak english,so I didn't have a big problem to watch the episode, but I have friends who doesn't speak english at all, and in my opinion, they lost the main part of the storyline! This might be the only thing which bothered me a little... I loved it though!

Ok...some of them sang ok..and I have to admit that Callie has a nice voice...but this episode almost killed my love for the show. Please don't ever repeat this experience because the music in it spoiled all the fun of watching what will happen next. I was looking forward for it..last week...and now I'm nearly sorry for watching it. I love the lines that every character has in it and the soundtrack but not combined. It's a great thing to have done this episode and get it right but it's not the Grey's I know and love.

They had great voices..but still NOOOOO. Don't ever do this again. I used to love this show, but i have to say, when i watched this it feld like Grey's jumped the shark.
loved every minute. their voices weren't bad at all. they did a great job (i especially loved henry's part in "running on sunshine" ^.^) and i don't know why ellen was so uncomfortable with her singing part, she has a nice voice :)
a very very nice new (and unique)experience, thank you shonda.

I absolutely loved this episode. No one except Sara Ramirez has had singing experince and they weren't bad at all. The songs made all my emotions 10x worse. I was left sitting on the edge of my chair throughout the whole episode! I applaud Shonda Rhimes and the cast for stepping out of their comfort zone and doing something they have never done before. If you don't like it, I ask you to watch it again! I will be a Grey's fan forever!

it simply sucked... never mind that half of the people could not sing. if i want to see singing, I'll tune into glee.

Disappointed!

I liked most of the songs and they fit in fine where they put them in the show but if I wanted to watch a musical I would watch glee
This could have been a really good episode, one of the best ever, if it hadn't used music.
Greys isn't just about music. It's about intelligent and realistic dialogue. To me, the best part of the ep was the elevator scene with MerDer. Now THAT's the Grey's I love.
This was shmaltzy and sell-out. Some of them have brilliant voices. But Greys shouldn't have been their platform.

@Kate - I agree with you.
It was a Brilliant episode. Really stepping out of the box. People should watch it again with an open mind and not think of any "ship". Just feel the episode and put it in you heart so that you can see its essence. Everything was great the technicalities, backgrounds, cinematic view and the cast.
Some could not appreciate it maybe because 1) they are not musically inclined 2)their favorite character/s was/were not the main focus in the episode 3)comparison with other musical shows or 4)negative thoughts since the conceptualization of the episode.
You are a real Genius Ms. Rhimes (& Co.) and you have the most talented actors in television.

To those who didn't like it; I would challenge you to try watching it again. But don't watch it like a regular Grey's episode. Watch the faces, the camera angles, and of course listen to the music. It's different, yes, but it's brilliant. So many subtleties. No one else would do it, cause no one else could.

Okay, this episode made me cry.
Top 3 songs/scenes:
breathe
-because it is sung by chyler. haha. but i have to admit. this part made me cry especially when mark is crying. we all know that its very unusual for mark to cry especially in front of someone. and also i didn't expect that lexie will comfort him. so i like it. very touching.
how to save a life
- because they saved callie!! and all of them got to sing. well many of them got to.
running on sunshine
- okay. who didn't like this part? its so cute! and i get to see teddy and henry flirt. lol. and lexie with MARK :)) . and lucy and alex. and all of the couples. and they're all happy :) haha
the only part that i dont like in this episode is when lexie chose to go home with jackson. =/ because i thought she'll be back with mark.

I found the ending too sudden. She woke up and said Yes I'll marry you and done. I don't know what I was expecting but I just sat there for a few minutes thinking "Whaaaat?"
As a true fan of Greys I'll say I really like the fact that they actually went all the way with the musical idea. It was very nice to hear them sing. The scene where all the couples were singing was fun. It was kind of goofy but it made me laugh :) And to be honest - I thought Bailey & Eli were still keeping their relationship hidden? I guess not if Callie knew. Hmm.
I liked the episode because it was Greys. I wouldn't say it was my favourite episode, no. It was nicely done and the idea was nice and everything but I wouldn't want you to do that again.
I think it was ridiculous, stupid, goofy, funny, beautiful and sad Greys at the same time :)
Oh, and I did like Kevin's singing but I didn't like how he started out with the "How to save a life" - it was like he was just speaking the words instead of singi

For Cris and Teddy I don't know... Cris may have overstepped her, but still, Teddy didn't have a clue on what to do, and got frustrated about it in the OR. Usually if one plan doesn't work and it's an emergency but we have a plan B, we use that one instead. So I think that's what happened.

I liked it. Made me cry anyway. Some scenes stronger than others, better played than others. Though I had the feeling that the doctors weren't aware that they were singing. As Callie's brain was damaged, the singing occurred but at the end when she was fully awake the singing stopped... I don't know, maybe I'm wrong, but it seemed like hallucinations to me and that their words or thoughts were put into singing. Anyway, I also agree with Blairendipity, weird things did showed in this episode looool.
Some sang better than others too lol, that's for sure. Though if Cris had sung, I don't know, it would have been really weird, kinda would have killed her "image" ! Mer/Der in the elevator, I liked that scene, really sad Mer admitting feeling jealous about Callie's pregnancy.
I saw a glimpse of Lexie/Mark but at the end, she chose Jackson. I felt...I don't know, weird about that...I guess there's no hope left...
We have to wait a month now !! This really SUCKS !!!

Dani, I totallz agree I did the same thing.
After I got annoyed with the stupid musical crap I fast forwarded the episode pretty much to see the plot... the disappointing thing: not only was the music annoying and lame but also NOTHING happened once again. and this is making me mad for a while not... NOThing happens anymore in greys... nothing is moving forward. we are waiting for so many things and they are dragged out forever.
have we seen alex receive a closure for izzie gone? no
have we seen a serious conversation about Mark and Lexie trouble (how come he or she never consulted derek , the best friend or meredith the sister!?)
Have we seen what happens with April and her virgin story? no
I just think there are so many stories we are waiting for and my patience is overstreched now cause I have been watching this whole season waiting all the time for the gaps and the next week and then there comes another episode where none of the real concerns are addressed and instead ther
