All My Children and One Life to Live: Cancelled!

It's been a good, multi-decade run for the world of daytime dramas.

But it effectively came to an end today, as ABC announced the cancellation of both All My Children and One Life to Live. The soap operas have been around since 1970 and 1968, respectively. They will be replaced by two talks show: The Chew starring Mario Batali and The Revolution starring Tim Gunn.

Soaps

Said Brian Frons, ABC's Daytime President: "We are taking this bold step to expand our business because viewers are looking for different types of programming these days. They are telling us there is room for informative, authentic and fun shows that are relatable, offer a wide variety of opinions and focus on ‘real life’ takeaways. A perfect example of this is The View, and that factored into our decision."

All My Children will go off the air in September, while One Life to Live will follow in January.

What would we need to do to get AMC and One Life To Live to stay on ABC? It hurts so bad to see them leave. I sure was hoping Oprah Winfrey would pick them up since she has been a fan of AMC for many many years? I agree with the person that said the cooking show should stay on the channels no one watches and leave our soaps alone.

Are you people crazy. The best thing of the day is AMC,OLTL and GH. you need to bring our shows back . We grew up with them, they are a part of us. These shows are just as much a part of our family's as what our kids are. We don't need no more cook shows, and the chew, it don't even belong on abc that's another show for food network are even dyi. GIVE US BACK OUR SOAPS, LEAVE DAYTIME TV ALONE .....ABC YOUR RATES ARE GOING GO WAY DOWN CAUSE YOU DON'T CARE BOUT THE VIEWERS

I was already upset when Guiding Light and As The World Turns went off the air. At that point I only had All My Children to watch and hang onto. I then got attached to One Life To/Live which now I find out both of them are going off the air!! I am so upset about this!! I have been watch ARC since I was a kid and have grown up with it. These food shows and reality shows are never going to take the place of our soaps!! I am really upset by this and I agree with everyone else I will not watch ABC Anymore!!

ABC as well as the rest of corporate america only care about the mighty dollar and NO ONE ELSE!! If it can't line their pockets, the hell with everyone else. And yes, what a crappy mark they now give the DISNEY name.Get people hooked on shows then CANCEL them. Just as bad as drug dealers. We pay enough for our television programming, ither to cable or satellite companies.

PLEASE DON'T STOP ALL MY CHILDREN AND ONE LIFE TO LIVE WE DON'T NEED TO GET RID OF THESE FOR SOME STUPID TALK SHOWS. IN FACE MAURY SHOULD GO OFF THE AIR ITS THE SAME ---- EVERYDAY WHOS THE DADDY. AND ALL THE REST OF THE TALK SHOWS STINK TOO. KEEP THE SOAPS OR LOOSE ALOT OF VIEWERS.

I am so upset about my two faviote soaps going off the air. When you have watched them since they been on the people almost feel like you know them. What we don't need is more talk shows or reality shows. Keep all my children and one life to live on. These actors work so hard to make the shows so interesting. Its a dam shame to end these two shows.

When I first saw a message from a friend regarding "stop ABC from cancelling AMC and OLTL" I ignored it, because I figured it was a crazy rumor. One more thing that hits email as fact and isn't. I realize that not all of us may watch these shows at the regular airing time anymore, I work, I look forward to watching the three ABC soaps in the evening on Soap Net. Isn't that what Soap Net and ABC online are for - so that we have multiple options to watch these shows. Obviously there is a desire for these shows or Soap Net would not air them in prime time! I agree with so many of my fellow posters - I will not watch a replacement talk show. I could count on one hand the amount of times that I watch The View in any given year, and usually only if I am home ill. As for reality TV, the only one that I watch, any network, is Dancing With the Stars. I have watched an episode here and there of others and all I see are people allowing themselves to be humiliated for the chance at money -
