Grey's Anatomy Scoop: What is MerDer's Big Decision?

at . Comments

Callie and Arizona get married May 5 on Calzona's Grey's Anatomy. This we know.

Here are details you may not know, but now do, via Sara Ramirez and TV Line:

Not only does Bailey officiate Calizona’s nuptials, but she serves as the couple’s spiritual guide after Callie's mom fails to approve of the same-sex union.

“Bailey says to her, ‘God is everywhere. God is in you and me,'" Ramirez says.

Tony Winner

"'Between us here in this room. And you don’t have to be in a church in order to marry someone and have a meaningful ceremony, union, marriage, wedding.’”

“So at the end of the day, Callie starts to embrace and understand that the person she needs to look to for self-assurance, love and acceptance, is inside of her.”

As for the other big event that day, pertaining to Meredith and Derek?

The episode synopsis we revealed earlier this week includes this telltale line: “Meredith and Derek make a decision that will change their lives forever.”

Hey maybe the papers that Derek has are to do with the house that they are currently building as in they could be moving in and the photos of the baby could be a baby that is up for adoption but they might not necessarily be the people adopting it

i think mer get the baby the sides with the new mom signing paper after paper and the peads nurse sounds like mer and arizona and the mention of not knowing if she still has a boyfriend makes me belive the merder break up this is greys mer cant have it all so its either the baby or derek

calzona have had a major storyline for less than 10 episodes (all the episodes after the winter break)....meredith and derek have had whole seasons focus around their never ending drama...I mean merder are by far my favorite couple but calzona deserves a storyline every once in a while, just like how crowen got their little love triangle storyline last season. anyway the end of the season is going back to focus on the core three (mer, cristina, and alex) so you ppl can stop whining. plus merder have a big storyline coming up. no, i dont think they are adopting a baby (shonda has recently stated that it will not happen this season), but i do believe they are getting married in order to make adoption a possibility. either way im looking forward to calzona's wedding and im extra excited to see the real merder wedding that was seven seasons in the making

@Napoleon Thank you!!!! You hit the nail on the head with both of your posts. What also amazes me is someone taking the time to leave a negative comment and stating they are never going to watch again, but week after week they end up on this site and others just to complain about what they did or didn't see. Hilarious.

What a crock of sh&*&*&!!! Headline leads you to believe it's about Mer/Der, but WAIT- a Huge pic of Callie & an article allll about Callie/Ariz. Who wrote this, anyway, Shonda??? Cuz she's at her best using Mer/Der to get people watching & then giving them 30 sec airtime (together, if we're REAl lucky). And of course they can only get married as an after-thought to Callie/ariz. (if they really do get married...we're still not sure).

@Katie Deanna Faulhaber: Big props. You earned my respect. I agree with you 100%. I believe everyone owes this person a clap. :)

It doesn't take much to empathize with people that feel (frustrated) the same way you do. Empathy is at its best(and really only works) when it is practiced on those who feel/believe/experience/act different than one's self. Anyway, I am confused and maybe you can clear something up for me? You say Grey's is at its best when it focuses on Meredith and the residents and then you list Avery, Lexie, and April, who are residents, you're right. Then at the end you say Grey's should focus on their core characters. How is Callie not a core character? I believe she has been on season 2. I would say that makes her MORE core than April, Lexie (even though she is Meredith's sister), and Avery. I suppose you will tell me those three are more core than Bailey too? What happens when a Grey's resident becomes an Attending? Then they are no longer core? Better hope this show doesn't make it to a season 9 or the only core character you will have is Lexie. I like Lexie but she can't carry the show. Bailey was a resident when this show started. Callie was a resident when she appeared mid way through season 2. I fail to see how becoming an Attending makes them less of a character. I think you should just admit you hate Calzona, for whatever reason, (we can probably all speculate) and let's all move all with life. Once again, ENSEMBLE cast which happens to be fantastic. They all get their turn and life moves on.

i can understand peoples frustrations. the show has always been at its best when it focuses on meredith and derek individually or together as a couple. Like during 'izzie's anatomy' in season 5, the season still focused massively on merder (i.e. meredith sympathising with the death row guy, learning to let derek in, derek dealing with career issues and of course getting married). however, this season calzona seem to have taken up most of the storylines and it seems that merder and other characters don't feature well. i've always said that the show is iconic when it focuses on meredith and the residents (i.e.mer,cris,alex,lexie,avery,april) and their careers and relationships with each other and their love lives. the interns/residents used to be the main focus of the show in season 1-5 and it should go back to this. for example, considering this, the chief resident storyline should be featured heavily but hasn't, there hasn't been a lot of focus on the marriage between cris and owen and theres hardly been massive storylines for alex. i'm sorry but calzona should go back to being supporting characters and the show should go back to its core cast.

Is this article's heading 'ironic'???? It's lead with a MerDer question and comment and then is entirely about Calzona again. I liked Callie but I'm now just feeling oversaturated with all this storyline. I hope things will settle down next season for Calzon cos they'll be an old married couple, and be scratching around for a SL

The irony of all of this is that the post's title is misleading! It leads you to believe that it will be substantial Mer/Der scoop, but really only two lines (at the end) of the whole thing are about the main couple. I respect the writers for creating really great characters who people can identify with, but I hate when the writers take the drama to a soap opera level. Izzie in season 5, Cristina in 1st half of season 7, and now Calzona/Mark in the 2nd half of season 7 - all storylines that started out sane and just became obnoxious. Izzie left with all of her drama, and Cristina pulled herself together...if Callie doesn't clean up her act, I'll be hoping she leaves, too (Arizona and Mark can stay!).

Grey's Anatomy Quotes

Did you say it? 'I love you. I don't ever want to live without you. You changed my life.' Did you say it? Make a plan. Set a goal. Work toward it, but every now and then, look around; Drink it in 'cause this is it. It might all be gone tomorrow."

Meredith (closing voiceover)

Burke was- He took something from me. He took little pieces of me, little pieces over time, so small I didn't even notice, you know? He wanted me to be something I wasn't, and I made myself into what he wanted. One day I was me Cristina Yang, and then suddenly I was lying for him, and jeopardizing my career, and agreeing to be married and wearing a ring, and being a bride. Until I was standing there in a wedding dress with no eyebrows, and I wasn't Cristina Yang anymore. And even then, I would've married him. I would have. I lost myself for a long time. And now that I'm finally me again, I can't. I love you. I love you more than I loved Burke. I love you. And that scares the crap out of me because when you asked me to ignore Teddy's page, you took a piece of me, and I let you. And that will never happen again.
