Bones Season Finale Spoilers: Booth and Brennan Will ...

... start a relationship? ... decide it's not gonna happen? ... something in between?

We know that the Bones season six finale promises a change in the game. Heck, it's even called "The Change in the Game." The implication there is that on May 19, finally, the relationship of Booth and Brennan will reach a turning point.

Fan expectations have certainly been raised. But will the show deliver?

A Bones Moment

Referencing a classic show in which two characters finally gave in to their feelings, and in doing so erased the palpable sexual tension fans loved, one member of the Bones brain trust admits it's been a very fine line to walk with Booth and Brennan.

“We wanted to try to have their relationship evolve in a realistic way while making sure the show still had the same tension that has made it appealing for six years,” executive producer Stephen Nathan says. “That said, we know we can’t repeat ourselves."

"We will switch it up. It will change the show in a fundamental way - but it will stay the same. We are not going to embrace the
Moonlighting curse."

"I can say that unequivocally. You know, half the [fans] are saying ‘get them together, get them together.’ Others say, ‘You cannot get them together. Once you get them together, it’s going to suck. It’s the Moonlighting curse and the show will end.’"

"Well, hopefully, both groups of people will be pleased.”

“We’re excited about where the show will be going. It’s a place that we haven’t seem any show go before. I’m not saying we’re reinventing the wheel or anything, but it’s not where anyone expects it to go,” Nathan promises.

What do you make of those comments, Bones fans, and where do you want to see B-squared's relationship go? Sound off in the comments below!

Please shut up about moonlighting! That is 25 years ago times have changed. Good god alot of your fans probably never even watched moonlighting. Why do you not compare to Castle or lets say House (you know the show that wins all the awards!!!!) If you do not want to hook B&B up cool just quit this silly will they won't they junior high school mentality.

I think having them together would be very successful. Booth would have even more of a protective edge and Brennan would have to learn how to keep their stuff just between them. Can't you see her standing over a dead body having a TMI moment about Booth in bed? She's an Alpha Female and he's an Alpha Male - I think it would be funny, complicated, and smartly written. I hope HH would keep things on a more hidden Mulder/Scully level and not have B&B making love throughout the Jeffersonian - she would be too professional for that. Sadly, I think that the death of Sweets is what will get them in bed in the first place and there may be lots of regret over succumbing to all those emotions out of grief for a lost friend...

I think that the writers and directors of Bones are talented enough to carry a relationship between Booth and Bones to the degree that they have carried the show thus far. Moonlighting's stars were not matched really well and them having a relationship was so unreal. So, I hope Hart Hanson, et al, have the courage and strength to let this relationship start coming into itself. If not, the show could slowly start slipping away. And believe me, no Finder show will replace Bones. It's a proven winner and one that will continue to grow and evolve due to the creativity of its writers, etc.

@spcbazwife08 it's not Sweets, Sweets is in the finale.

IF Booth & Brennan get together & she gets pregnant, I don't think Booth would be content to "parent together" with her. He already has a baby-mama (Rebecca). He wants to get married. The development of their relationship (marriage? no marriage? family? Brennan & Parker, etc.) provides many opportunities for great story-telling. Come on, Hart Hanson, let's get them going!

What if they discover they are brother and sister? :DDD

a change in the game that will satisfy fans of both parties. Does that it mean like someone suggested, give into one night of passion and then revert back to their old status quo or turn into friends with extra 'benefits'. Can't wait to see how it will develop. However, as someone suggested below that the writers will make use of Emily's pregnancy, that will be interesting to explore from several angles.. the whole thing of prospective motherhood and Bone's adaption/response to it, change in the dynamics between Bones/Booth, etc. Sounds like the pregnancy angle might give more for writers to dig into than just a normal couple getting together..

Crystal S Eaton The person who is leaving is sweets

I, too, am sick of hearing about this moonlighting crap. If the writers chose to not get B&B together this season, they're going to regret it when the show isnt picked up for an 8th, and they'll just fall into the same cliche quota as Friends. We need AT LEAST an enitre season to watch their relationship evolve. I've read FANFICTION that makes it work, so MAKE IT WORK.

I agree with Angela. The so-called Moonlighting/Cheers curse is used by imagination-dead writers and producers, when they cannot figure out a way to sustain interesting and complex characters without the drama of will-they/won't-they at their disposal. The writers should go back and watch some of the best movies of the 1930's, the ones with William Powell, Myrna Loy, Carole Lombard, and their ilk. It can be done, but apparently it takes better writers than now exist in Hollywood to do it. These people have destroyed an entire season with this felgerkarb, and now they are supposedly handing us another switch? Lack of imagination is killing this program, and removing the fan base hand over foot. I am disgusted.

Bones Quotes

Sometimes the best things in life happen against the odds.

Booth: I worked really, really hard on my vows, but you know, now that we're here, look, um, hey. Do you remember the last time that we were here? Standing right around in this spot? It was right in the beginning before we really knew each other. I was trying to get away from you because you were irritating me and, uh, you chased me down, and you caught up to me and I said to you 'listen, I just have to get all my ducks in a row' and you said to me--
Brennan: I can be a duck.
Booth: Yeah. You know we had been chasing each other for a long time. Chasing each other through wars and serial killers and ghosts and snakes. And now chasing you has been the smartest thing that I have ever done in my life. And being chased by you has been my greatest joy. But now, we, uh, we don't have to chase each other anymore because we caught each other.
